Bangles - I'll Set You Free (Live from Santa Clara CA 9/2/89)
Recorded live at the Redwoods Amphitheatre, Santa Clara CA, the final show of their 'Everything, Everywhere' Tour. This show would become notable as being the Bangles last performance together prior to their initial break-up several months later.
I've compiled all of the Bangles "Best In (Live) Show" tracks into five different volumes for download on Mediafire. This one is part of volume 3 which covers the 'Everything, Everywhere' tour of 1989 with selections from the Road Party event near Houston, Texas, as well as the last night of the tour in Santa Clara CA on September 2, 1989. That show would become the last performance by the band until their reunion in 2000.

Never, in the history of this great music we call rock n roll, has there ever been the vocal richness and beauty and hotness of the Bangles. They are sui generis in that way and those who had power over their career and did not foster that are burdened with some very bad karma IMHO.
@kyachdistent1301
@kyachdistent1301 Месяц назад
I don't believe in karma, never see the evidence, evil endures, after all slagdonna's malign influence still here, will never die, though the music scene long dead since the 90s. Typically the label treated them like crap and sadly they left the pressure bust them at, and spent little time touring and enjoying their career-est album, the one that this song is from.

This is such a beautiful song. I think this could've hit number 1 like Eternal Flame, but it never got a chance with their breakup. And the pic you posted is one of my faves of them. Such a great group & it's a shame many possibilities ended when they broke up.

I agree with every word. This song would have done really well, if not number 1. Love the melody and harmony on this song. Side note: The ladies really do look lovely in this photo. I hope Micki is happy and doing well, wherever she is.

No it couldn't, let's not lie. People put obvious things (and often unremarkable things at No,1). For Gods sake, the perfect (few) singles released from the debut got nowhere when it should have broken them through, and they only made the 2 obvious ones huge from "Different Light". Intriguingly in the UK, 'Be With You' got higher than 'In Your Room' did-very odd considering the latter was an ahead of new album released and featured Su predictably as all 1st releases do. 'I'll Set You Free'-like many Bangles songs, especially from this album, and many other cool 80s acts are tailor-made for No.1 in themselves. but not the way the market is run. Charts are rigged, and the best stuff always hits the lower reaches-when it hits at all!!

Uno de los grandes temas de Bangles, que merecía una mejor promoción en la época de su lanzamiento. El tiempo siempre pone las cosas en su lugar y hoy es considerado como uno de los himnos de este genial cuarteto.

Could have been the fourth single from "Everything", but it all fell apart before that happened. A one-of-a-kind group; they got back together a few years later and still perform, minus Michael, every once in awhile.

Well, there is a modus operandi in the biz and the 3 album deal is it. It's followed by the star going solo. So, I think the reason it was not made a single is because they were planning on making it the single from the greatest hits, but because they had officially broken up by then, it did not get the push it should have, with an official video and television appearances. The business really screwed the bangles up. The turning point was If she knew what she wants. They should have instead released In a Different Light. That would have kept their rockband cred alive, while also showcasing a different lead vocalist, plus the familiarity of Susanna's voice is prominent enough for people to know it's the same band. By releasing ISKWSW they created the Susanna is the lead template and they never got past it. The next mistake was In Your Room/Be With You. Rather than In Your Room being the first single from Everything, they should have released a different vocalist. Be With You was the wrong Debbi song to be a single. Yes it has the strings and all that, but it just isn't the hit that Some Dreams Come True is. They should have released Some Dreams Come True before the albums release. the. Release In Your Room a few days before the albums release. Then Eternal Flame. Or at the very least, just released Some Dreams Come True instead of Be With You and given it as much push as in your room. Side 2 of the greatest hits being Hazy Shade of Winter In Your Room Eternal Flame Some Dreams Come True I'll set you free Everything I wanted Where were you Is still way too Susanna heavy to be a fair representation of the band. Maybe throwing What I meant to say up there would help. But the funny thing is... Often times the other bangles songs aren't single material. They're great music but just not single material. None of the other girls' songs on everything are singles. Perhaps watching the sky? That song at least is distinctive enough. Perhaps the glamrocky late 80s could have found that as a single but it would be a lower charting/more cult status type song.

Susanna sounds a lot like Paulette Carlson of Highway 101 Two of the best female singers ever.
@kyachdistent1301
@kyachdistent1301 Месяц назад
No, not with that baby voice and country-like twang. Granted she's in one of the best groups ever, but her voice is no better than the other 3, and there are better women voices than hers-Kim Wilde, ABBA's Agnetha and Frida, Sheena Easton, Pat Benatar, Maggie Reilly, Natasha England, Anna De Cazio of Cock Robin, Claudia Brucken, Laura Branigan, Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac, girls from B52s, Tracy and Melissa from Voice Of The Beehive, Aimee Mann of 'Til Tuesday,Deborah Harry, Wilson Phillips, though this about voice, not band quality, no female group (they're not bands, no instruments). Granted Su baby voice is cute and I put it alongside other baby-voiced girls-Thereza Bazar of Dollar, Jane Wiedlin, Wendy Wilson of Wilson Phillips, Sandra, it's more a voice of sporadic appeal, which is why it worked well among 3 other lead singers every album. A voice like Belinda Carlisle and Carol Decker of T'Pau, Grace Jones and Siobhan Fahey may sound challenging, but all-round makes more sense for a full album then Susanna's does.

"He?" I know she rocks a boy's name-well it's a thing most American women do (Taylor? Blake? Ryan? Christina? Jordan? They all bloody do it, silly mares, imagine a bloke doing the same, he's be killed), but Micki not a he. Susanna's country-like baby twang does sound odd on some songs, not just this one, it should be noticed from the start, but is ignored by those that fancy her like hell. Be even worse on 'Eternal Flame' but then slagdonna can't flaming sing, neither can Tina Turner for that matter, awful howling. She sings the early B-side 'Call On Me' weird, and they're backing isn't much better on it either. I guess they had a cold?
