Both Track and Wheeled skid steers tend to year up the turf too much in the field and at the sheds dig holes, Good for one job only, loading and unloading...... The scene of the hay field...... We got a woman that loads in the field, and she is fast...... about 28 bales every 30 minutes..... with a power-shuttle tractor over 700 4x5s moved 15 miles in 2 days....
I think a tractor is much more efficient in the field loading bales. I use only twin spears and make tight bales so I can carry 2 on front and load them. Also if I stab them they are going on a trailer to the barn and not being moved again until sold or fed. I also use a 4 prong 3 point spear on the rear of tractor and am able to carry 4 bales off per trip across the field. Can't do that with a skid steer, plus bringing a skid to the field is an extra trip. I do enough hay that anything I can do to save time matters and really adds up.
To each their own! We have a tractor with front and rear spears that we use to unload. It’s understandably faster. But, Our fields are not in one place and we have to travel some considerable distances. We crunched the numbers and trip time many different times and it became apparent that loading and unloading the skid was faster than tractor travel on roads. I do this to help my brother and anything I can do will “save” him time with his hay. Seems like you have a great system and knowledge in the hay field. Keep at it! Thanks
We used a John Deere 4320 mostly before we got the skid steer. It was great. (You can see it in action in some of my earlier videos.) But time wise the skid steer was the better choice for us. With a good operator any machine can be fast! Thanks for the comment!
@@honeycuttsbrushmore3244 very true. I do wish I had one to use around my farm. I used a bobcat putting shavings in our chicken house and it blows the tractor away.
