Ethel's birthday is one of the most underrated episodes in my opinion. Many great lines. Lucy's reactions to Ethel are priceless. Its especially funny when Ethel says "I was wondering what to wear to all those smart dinner parties I give." They just don't write 'em like this any more. Great video, Rick. Be hopeful!

Of all these, Ethel's Birthday is my favorite! "Well, he's done it again", "Listen, I'd look better wearing a toaster than those", LOL!! Regarding their birthdays, offhand I could have listed Lucys, Ethels, and Freds and knew Ricky's birthday was never mentioned. But I did fail to recall that Little Ricky's was highlighted in two episodes. Thanks Rick!

Awesome topic as always Rick! What cracks me up is Little Ricky was born Jan 19, 1953, the day before Eisenhower's inauguration, and yet the episode where Lucy calls Little Ricky from Italy was in April.

My favorite birthday episode is Ethel’s Birthday. It’s great! Maybe Desi didn’t want an episode for Ricky’s birthday because he didn’t care? That’s my best guess as to why there wasn’t an episode for Ricky’s birthday. Awesome video! 👍

Great presentation again Rick. The date of Lucy's birthday also varies. In one episode she mentioned August 6th, but the date circled on the calendar is different on an earlier one and different again in Hollywood when Ricky forgets the date. Go figure!

"Friends of the friendless" was 1 of my favorites. Those people were hilarious. I remember seeing many of those actors in different episodes.

This also happened in Friends, Chandler was the only character who never had an episode centered on his birthday apart from a couple of seconds in one episode where they all remember their 30th Birthdays.

In the episode Ricky sells the car. The reason the Mertz’s hotel room changed is because when Ricky forgot to get the Mertz’s train tickets they check out of the hotel. They bought a motorcycle to take them back to New York. Since they are not leaving until the next day Fred and Ethel had to reserve another room.

Hey hey all these episodes were great. I liked the Italy episode for the Foreign flavor & the little kids singing Happy Birthday to Little Ricky in Italian. The Little Ricky episode where George Reeves guessed as Superman is obvious as to why I liked it. The episode where Lucy helped Fred pick out the pants when Ethel wanted a toaster was cool (Not a pants suit Rick just pants). The audience laughed & Ethel was disappointed but Lucy was right: They are sheek! I always thought it was a great gift..and believe it or not (and I do a lot of catalogue ordering) those pants, though of course NOT the same design but similar are a popular item t today! I thought it was a great idea though it met with comedic tones. The other episodes were also pretty good...especially loved when Ricky was singing in the club to Lucy. I also feel it was nice the way that episode ended with The Friends of the Friendless being in the club. Now they became popular as well. *** And speaking of birthdays this year on what would have been Lucille Balls birthday Aug 6 is the natoonal celebration of those 5 colorized episodes bring shown in select theatres throughout the USA at 7 p.m. sharp. Also showing some kind of special sfterwards. August 8 is my birthday & this was a birthday gift to myself. Those tickets went so fast for seating in NYC! The seats are reserved. I was so lucky to be able to purchase one before they were sold out. I had to go online to 3 different NYC theatres before I found availability! The tickets were only $14.50 apiece though seats were reserved. The perk is some of these select theatres (maybe all) are also going to be selling I Love Lucy memorabilia! YES! Whoever was able to purchase a ticket or tickets It is going to be a celebratory blast! YES!

My opinion on Ricky’s non birthday: The show is called “I Love Lucy” so in my mind has to be revolved around her. The guys are there for supporting acting and laughs. I funny, my idea.

At 404 you said "to finish up the movie he went to Hollywood to make" as we all know, Don Juan was shelved so he never made that movie! He wrapped up a different movie

I’m thinking it’s easy to write a funny episode about a woman’s birthday because men forget, or they’re pickier or more sensitive about what their gift is, (not all women, of course, I’m generalizing) but it’s harder to write something funny about a man’s birthday. When Ricky thinks he is going bald is fairly close because it’s related to age.

The series ended so suddenly that in the “next season” Ricky and Fred would have had birthday shows.

The Italian episode was creepy.

Possibly, they might of thought that if Fred was given a birthday episode, William Frawley, might have used it as an excuse privately to drink, which was both a detriment to his contract, as well as the I Love Lucy show.

Another winner, Rick! I'm in agreement with most of the people commenting that "Lucy's Last Birthday" was one of their worse episodes. UGH, is right! The usually brilliant writers were really off their game that week. I think the two best "Birthday" episodes were the ones with George Reeves as "Superman," and "Ethel's Birthday." On the later. I'm surprised you didn't include at least a shot and mention of the great comedic interplay between Lucy and Ethel when Ethel finds out that it was Lucy that bought those screwy colored "smart party pants" and not Fred. The writers and performers were at their best! Don't know why Ricky's birthday was never mentioned or celebrated. Maybe the writers and producers thought there had been more than enough "birthday" episodes, a few of which were clunkers.
