I love Colin and Penelope’s story and I think reading the book helped me to connect with them on their journey.
But after watching it a couple of times, I feel like Colin hasn’t sweated enough???
This is not me trying to compare their relationship with Kate & Anthony. Each person’s love story is UNIQUE! And i get the friends to lovers story is on the softer side of romance than Enemies to lovers!
I just think Penelope deserves sooo much more (maybe that's the protective sister/ girls girl in me) and yes Colin realises it but he needs to IMO beg at this point 😂
Let’s not forget, Penelope really watched Colin from the sidelines for a whole 2 seasons (in the book 11 years 🥹) But I getttttt it, Shonda has only 8 episodes 🤧
Maybe I am overthinking….
Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this 🙏🏾

I know a lot of people wanted to see Colin suffer a lot more, and he does suffer, enough to me, but in my opinion you are allowed to be friends with the opposite sex and not be in love with them. That was Colin he saw Penelope, as a friend. And to impress the boys, to fit in with a ton, and to show how much he did not care for Pen, he said something stupid in that moment. Then he left and came back and put on a mask so no one could see how he felt. Those first few episodes of him being cringe and cocky, it was him putting on a facade so he would fit in with the rest of the people in the ton, how he thought he should be. Talking to Penelope again, being in her presence, and that first kiss helped him break a little bit of the shell that he had put up after coming back home. We see him again put back on his armor when he is found out helping Pen. Luke Newton's acting is so subtle that it will be hard for people to see the changes that happened to Colin starting in episode 2 into episode 4 and it takes a couple of re-watches to really look at the changes that he's going through. What I love the most about Colin in the books and in the show is that when he realizes something unlike some other characters is that he goes for it. Once he realized that he liked penelope, loved Penelope there was nothing stopping him from telling her so. He did the same thing with Marina after being with her only a couple of days or a couple of dates and he proposed to her. When Colin realizes something and wants something he goes after it. It takes a person's strong character to realize something that they want and go after it without hesitation. Him suffering for those two episodes was enough for me to have him really finally realized how much he liked Penelope. I may have a unpopular opinion here but I did not like having to watch season 2 all the way up until episode 8 for Anthony to confess his love to Kate I hated it....I hate slow Burns. I love when a man realizes that he loves someone and he goes after that person that he loves and then confesses his feelings once he realizes that he does so. The moment that Anthony realized how much he liked Kate the moment that they were having all those trusts and moments out together he should have broke off his engagement with Edwina and stopped being so stubborn and just want for Kate. Then we could have had a wedding scene, we could we could have seen them married Bliss we could have had all kinds of other things within their relationship with them being married instead of having all that extra drama that we had in the last couple of episodes, with him wanting to marry Edwina. Kate falling off of a horse and all that other jazz. That whole storyline of the two sisters liking the same man. I did not like. I hated it. Season 2 is not my favorite, I prefer season 1 and it is what it is. I am really enjoying season 3 because I get to finally see Colin with his feelings, realizing those feelings realizing that he can take off his armor and be the sensitive guy that he is and then going after Penelope once he knows how he feels.

Wow. Okay you know what I really hear this! He does wear a mask throughout the first couple of episodes and good on him for taking his mum’s advice and getting it together!! Maybe I wanted Penelope to have a chance to be with someone else instead of Colin as we see her have her eyes on Colin for so long 😭 but then again the heart wants it wants. Penelope and Colin are not the type of people to play games

The journal entry should have continued because it seemed like he was suffering and lost in his travels. Like his mom said, dont let armor rust, and you can't take it off. Plus, we will probably see him feel it when he finds out who she is.. 🤔 Season 3 different •they know each other, so no introduction •their past couple to measure them against them. When the other season they had none to compare on screen. •Colin did not need to get married, while everyone before wanted or needed to married.

What he said is really bad if you consider the time period, it’s not like a friend now days saying they’re not interested in you, he told people that he basically considered her unmarriable, so anyone with a similar rank in the ton will believe the same

AMENNNN, MY FAV COMMENT EVER, thank youuu! POLIN is my fav ship, and I LOVE how unproblematic he is compared to most men in Bridgerton, he is not the typical broody guy, he is sweet and sensitive and and cares for people around him and TELLS THEM. I LOVE GOLDEN RETRIEVERS ALWAYS

I didn’t like season 2 either. Season 3 is my story. I enjoyed watching Colin keeping everything for himself but around Penelope he spits everything out. He said to his brothers he doesn’t remember how many cities he visited but he talked to pen he remembered 😅😅. I also like seeing him go to brothel to practice for pen😂😂

I have zero beef with colin for one very big reason Boy had zero awareness of Penelope's feelings for him. And even more so, his feelings for her. I can't blame him for not knowing either because she never once straight out told him. She lacked the courage to do it. He suffered because he had no clue she loved him he struggled to tell her even after figuring out what his feelings were because he was afraid of losing her all together even as a friend. you can see it when he has poured out his heart for her and she said they were friends his heart dropped and he wanted to backtrack and take back at the fear that she would completely cut him out of her life even as a friend that is how important Penelope is to him. I am also starting to think he came back because he had heard nothing from her after writing her all his letters because he wrote to no one else as his brothers stated. He also didn't reveal that to her that he had not written to anyone else. he made it sound like he wrote to everyone, which we know is a lie. It's telling that he feels only she would understand him and that he can only confide his real feelings to her. I have a feeling he started writing that journal because she was not responding to him. I'll even wager that the lack of her response is what made him look for intimacy with all those women in the only way he knew how because it's what he saw from his brothers who were his father figures. And yet he writes in his journals that even with that intimacy, there was such distance. He was missing Penelope's words and connection. He didn't realize that this was what had him feeling lonely. When he comes back, he is looking for her. He always looks towards her house when leaving or coming back, and this time was no different. I think we will hear him say something to the effect that he had feelings for Penelope for a very long time he just never understood what they were, because they grew slowly and over such a long time that they had been vailed by that same time. It took her being angry at him and calling him out, and them being in close proximity with eachother without the interference of eloise, who always unfortunately interjected herself, mostly at the moments when they could have realized the mutual affection. Remarkable shade of blue indeed. He felt the tension there, had to take the sip of lemonade cause we all know his heart skipped a few beats. It's the first time she actually flirts with him and he felt completely seduced by her. He tells her she doesn't need lessons not because he thinks she is unteachable but because he finds her charming when she is being herself. He even gives her an example of when he found her charming when they first met. He is not just hyping her up he clearly believes this. Colin fell prey to the whole. You can't see the bigger picture when you are standing too close. He was so close for so long that he lacked awareness of his feelings. Mostly because they met in a time period when kids weren't thinking of love. So he didn't realize when it turned to love because it happened so gradually. I find it funny too that even before deblin becomes his competition, he doesn’t really like it when pen smiles at another man or finds them interesting. Lord Remington was a clear example. He is talking to a group of people, but the moment he notices, Lord remington talking to Penelope, he stops, and his smile falls. Luke is very good at subtle expression change when Penelope smiles at Lord remington and moves towards him. colins' eyes falter, and his smile becomes tense. She looks up at him, and he offers her a tense smile. The moment lord remington leaves, he rushes to her side, and he immediately asks if she likes him. He always asks if she likes the guy. This is not him simply being a coach he wants to guage her feelings, and he still doesn't know why, but his face is tense. This was his first time feeling jealous they really weren't subtle either playing jealous in the background. I could tell, though, even without the song. So far, i am very happy. I don't think the suffering is over either for Colin, but i would rather get less suffering and more lovey dovey i am here for the romance, not so much for the heartache. You also have to keep in mind the more he suffers the less lovey dovey time we get for them. I will take this over kate and Anthony's season long struggle and five seconds of payoff no, thank you. You can do that in a book, but please, not in a tv show. i want my fanservice, please, and thank you.

I don’t mind the Colin as a rake angle simply because he said in his speech to Penelope that he had been trying to be who he thought that he should be for society. He was basically replicating the actions of his older brothers. That’s why it felt so out of place for him. Because it is.I personally am loving.

Girllll I totally agree with you! I think this season should have had 10 episodes to give Polin more screen time. Penelope deserves more attention and they should've brought more suitors for her instead of giving only Lord Debling. It's fine that she loves Colin but she should've given him the chance to chase her, and work to get her. I can see other people comments have mentioned this, i think Colin would definitely suffer more in Part 2 when he finds out Pen is lady whistledown!

Eloise as well as LW have called Colin out for being fake for good reason. He was not himself and that is why the flirty persona felt so out of character and a little cringe. I also thought that there was too little of the main storyline and everything was rushed, but after rewatching the Polin moments only as if it was movie (a lot of times :)) I think enough time has passed and Colin has suffered quite a lot. Just the other plotlines (which I also like) made it seem that there is too little material. For me Colin really had so many little moments that showed his turmoil. For example under the willow - when Pen tells him they should keep the distance - it is like dagger to his heart and another one comes when she leaves with the "if I secure a proposal it will be because of you". And one of my favourite moments is his "Good luck" in the sweets tent. So sad but with genuine wish for her happines (persuing someone else). Plus everyone was reminding him how great it is that him and Pen are friends :) And the last straw, when she told him in the carriage that they are friends, his world ended for a moment - I think that in itself was more than enough suffering. Also the passage of time took me a while to grasp as well. I thought the willow had been next day after the kiss, but it was at least a week and balls also are not happening every night. So the kiss to carriage were 2-3 weeks at least. Which is nothing compared to years, I know, but it was enough for me :) And i am pretty sure he will be suffering because of the LW reveal in the Part 2.

From the moment I heard that they were going to turn Colin into a rake I knew that they ruined him. And ruined the entire story for me. They should’ve just copied and paste the fanfic because they did it better. The previous show runner said that Colin was the sensitive one because he was raised amongst his sisters 👯‍♀️ playing dolls 🎀and the age gap between him and his two older brothers. Makes him less likely to be a womanizer like his older brothers. so in season 1 and 2 they were setting Colin up to be a romantic demisexual. Hence why he wouldn’t kiss Marina. Because Penelope and Colin are sentimental writers who document every monumental event in their life’s. We as the romantic fan base were expecting The friends to lover❤️Trope. To be more intimate. A story where Colin and Penelope have their first awakening together. I was hoping that the show would give me an improved version of Odysseus. as Colin. I didn’t like Greek myth Odysseus. I didn’t think he deserved Penelope. I wanted virgin demisexual Colins so bad and I was so pissed when I heard that we weren’t getting him for the TV show. I thought he would be our first demisexual representation, but NO we got another rake.
(very original). It’s not like we got that with the past two Male leads, and we’re also getting that with the future male leads. So I guess they just intend to keep telling the same story over and over. The new showrunner (Jess) had all the groundwork to tell a different kind of intimate. Sexual story. With different characters that are different people and it being just as compelling as the sexually liberated and experienced male leads. I had no problem with him being a Showboat, who is charming with a false public image. Him being a virgin erotic writer. Would show that Colin has dichotomy and layers to him like Penelope who is whistledown and people think she’s more mature or older than she is. I specifically only wanted him to be a whore for Penelope. Only Rabbid for Penelope. I wanted her to be his first kiss and first time, especially since we were getting a secondhand proposal. now she gets no first and everything is secondhanded and a hand me down. I guess the new show writer ✍🏻 is sticking with the season 1 and 2 formula thinking that this type of man increases sex appeal but NO! All it did was gross 🤮 me out. The TV 📺 version of Colin. Especially since I know how good it could have been. The story that actually Polin Stan’s write ✍🏻 did a far superior job.

It would’ve been just as spicy 🥵 repressed newly discovering virgins. There is such a thing as horny virgins. The excited exploration. The cute hilarious awkwardness. The wonder of a whole New World unlocked Wasted potential. The fanfic did it better. Colin being a virgin doesn’t automatically make him an idiot. Or simple. Sex isn’t rocket science you don’t need experienced and know how to do it. It’s not some complicated equation and for two people who are best friends could feel safe and trust each-other enough to figure it out, and that would’ve been compelling. if the two teens in blue Lagoon could figure it out on the deserted island. 🏝️ there’s no reason why Colin and Penelope can’t figure it out especially since Colin has the knowledge of the logistics of how it works. The friends to lover audience. Are deeply romantic we don’t want frivolous fucking. This was supposed to be our season. First awakenings are extremely sexy. And there’s so much more special. We were robbed of something beautiful 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 The disgusting mentality of a Rake an insecure man who uses women and their bodies as less so they can feel like more. Throwing money at systematically oppressed women for cheap thrills, isn’t sexy it’s not romantic. Only for his soulmate to change him. They didn’t have to make him a Rake to tell the same story of insecurity. I suppose the only admirable thing he did was not talk about sex workers like they were moldy pieces of bread 🍞 to be thrown away. He at least respected their dignity somewhat. But his character still ruining for me. And I suppose that fact means he a reformable rake. But why does reformed mean you learn to not use other people for your own feelings of inadequacy? I honestly won’t ever forgive the writers for ruining the character and the story, for me The worst part is Lord Debling by comparison, a truly secure man 🧍‍♂️ who stands for his own conviction. Who is truly his own unapology self no matter. How society snares at him. And think him odd. He is who he wants to be. You can actually respect him. And admire him. For a man who stands on his own conviction. That’s truly a man. Colin comes back does the same whoring about the entire time he is teaching Penelope lessons (for weeks apparently) and then kisses her because he feels sorry for her. Ugh that is so gross to me. Then because he is supposedly so despondent over Pen having a suitor, he goes back to fuck some sex workers again. He only gets up enough courage to tell Penelope how he feels once he knows she is getting proposed to. Like he couldn’t call on her, not even once, or bribe her maid again, to see her and explain how he feels. Instead it’s poor me me me me…. I keep asking myself why I should want ShondaColin with Penelope. She deserves sooo much better than him. Ugh… 😣

it's not just you babes. I wished they made Penelope confront Colin more so they could push each others buttons more and get the emotions going. Last season he told Pen he was swearing off women and this season he's all into women. That would be the perfect opportunity for her to confront him about his new personality face to face versus writing about him in whistledown. Also last season he was talking about not having a purpose. In the book he felt the same way and was quite insecure about it so much it started annoying Pen because he is a rich man who could literally do anything he wanted but was never acting on his opportunities. For the show I was hoping they would piggyback off this delema that they already started showing us in S2 and make them have a confrontation about this as well.

People wanted to see him suffer, and he was. He tired to hide it but he knew of he spoke up he would cost Penelope her chance, plus loose such an important person in his life. He said during the apology thats she uplifts him, he seeks her out....your risking a lot. So the choas he causes once he decides is messy but understandable. And end of the day its up to Penelope what she wants. Conversation with her mum and debbling its indicated she wants love. She would of been so miserable with debbling. He just wanted a housekeeper and a wife who doesnt mind being away from society....he couldn't risk having chestnut brown children. There is a line in the book, where Penelope says no one saw her, everyone ignored her. So you can understand why she wrote Whittlsedown, when she has nothing to live for she found the one thing that gave her purpose. It would of been same life with debbling, spending her whole life in corners of ballrooms, writing but never being anything but a observer in her own life. I think there is still a lot left to resolve in their emotional relationship.

I loved this season. My only issue are too many side plots. I dont need the Violet or Benedict side plots. I am not a fan of the balloon scene either. I would have had Pen walk away from the event when she see debling talking to cressida, and have Colin follow. They can walk and talk about Colins travels his journals etc. When the commotion with the balloon starts they rush back unnoticed. This would give an extra Polin scene and more depth to colins travels. My thoughts on the online critique i have seen. 1. Polin have no chemistry. Just lies that i wont take seriously. I think some Kanthony fans are mad about their season. 2. Colin needed to suffer more. I think he suffered enough. He made a genuine apology and tried his best to help fix the issue. He was literally broken after the kiss, the man could barely form sentences. What more do people want? In 8 episodes i would not want them to drag it on any further. 3. Colin flirting was cringe. It was supposed to be. 4. Penelope begging for a kiss. I understand how it came across that way but it felt really vulnerable and authentic. It shows how comfortable she is with him that she can open up like that and ask. Season 1 Pen would never. 5. Polin got together to quickly. I think 2 seasons and 4 episodes is long enough. In both season 1 and 2 the main couples had feelings for each other by episode 4 the only difference is that the men in previous seasons hid or masked their feelings instead of telling the women how they feel. I am glad they didnt drag it out too long. Colin developed feelings and acted on them quickly as he should. 6. Netflix should not have split the season like this. Everyone is comparing 8 episodes in season 1 and 2 to 4 episodes in season 3 and it is not fair on the actors etc that worked so hard on the show. I get that they want to make their money. But i hate waiting. Overall i am enjoying the season but i do think future seasons should be 10 episodes. Especially if they want to have as many side plts as they do.

Okay, so I really loved part 1. It took me a long time to get through it because I was rewinding and re-watching parts and screaming and it was so good. However, I do think that it could have been longer. Especially Colin and Penelope‘s scenes together. I love that they incorporated the drawing room scene from the book and added the lessons part, but I thought it would be much longer. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been clowning over the season for months now and was following along with promos and your podcast that I didn’t realize what they showed us in promo was all there was to the scene. I feel like there could’ve been more added, especially the drawing room scene. I wanted to see more lessons and more interactions between them and I think they missed that opportunity; especially considering the episodes were between 52 to 58 minutes. They made us wait over 2 years. It could’ve been an hour 15. I would love to see the parts that they cut out because I know it would be so good. I really liked episode 3 and 4 the most because that’s the two I knew the least about. Maybe that’s just me because I hate spoilers. Though, my favorite scene of part 1 is their first kiss. I was SCREAMING!!! I will forever love that scene and was analyzing every bit of it before I moved on. Overall, it felt a bit rushed in the beginning and I can see how people would struggle to follow Colin as he began to fall in love with Penelope because we didn’t really see that. We just saw him realize that he was in love, but not how that came to be. I hope that makes sense. I also don’t feel the same fire to watch part 2 the way I did for part 1 because of how it ended. There wasn’t really a plot twist or cliffhanger. If they really wanted to end it there it wouldn’t be upsetting because from the last scene, Penelope looked like she was going to say yes. Plus, I really hoped Penelope would answer saying no and they cutting it off there. I was really hoping that would’ve happened. Of course, I still want part 2 though. Also, I don’t really care for the other characters right now, except for Polin. This is partly because I feel like they didn’t give everyone else much to do. Benedict is once again with another woman, but it would’ve been more interesting if we got to see him pursue his art; it just feels like every season is another woman. It doesn’t feel like he has a story. I really do like Eloise though. Everything just feels unfinished and that’s likely due to the season being split in half. Everything just felt fast-paced and rushed especially episode 2. (Except the kiss!!) Anyways, I’m going to go rewatch part 1 again. Because Polin was still so good and I want to see if rewatching will change my mind. Hopefully this time without pausing every two minutes. 🤭

As a POLIN SHIPPER, I DO NOT CARE A SINGLE BIT about subplots. I WANT BABY POLIN, I want more arc of his sensitive side, even Violet said he is the sensitive kid, I also saw a comment on a different video where someone said they would like to see the impact of their fathers death on Colin, I think he is sensitive on purpose because he knows Anthony can’t show they because he is the oldest and his mom and sisters needs that emotional support. Maybe he also wanted to go to college but saw Benedict wanted it more, maybe he saw his mother crying and comforted her I NEED SENSITIVE COLIN. I love Golden Retriever boys, idc about broody guys and angst, I like sweet and nice and I would have loved to see more of his fun side, him playing with his little siblings more, everything that makes him so nice and fun I hope we see that in part 2 😭🤍

My wish for part 2 is that Colins reaction is like in the book when he will find out that she is Lady Whistledown.... and for the Cressida problem... i wish the same. I prefer book Colin so much because how he was handeling the difficulties. Hope they will give us that in the show as well. My concern is because of the drama for the show they will let Penelope suffer more. And in my opinion the deserve more positive scenes. She need support and I hope Colin will give her that. And for your question... Colin knew that Penelope liked him but prefere to ignore it... at least it says so in the book.

I also felt something was missing. I think the love between them isn't convincing. Even with Penelope, we know she loves Colin from the previous seasons but in this season, we saw almost nothing showing that she loved him. There may be little clues but not really convincing imo. Because this is their season, the love between them is supposed be everywhere and very strongly but we didn't see much of it 😢 Also, until now although lots of things are happening, at the same time it feels like nothing is happening 😅 I don't know why

We all are yearning for more Kanthony. We need more Kanthony! I think the two, part reveal is messing us up. But it is not the same as season two. The sufferings comes from the reveal of Whistledown.that comes from the next part. I didn't like our sweet Colin with those two old girls. He's not Anthony. I think there are too many characters competing for airtime to really concentrate on the main characters. Think about it, Do you really care about watching the Mondriches ride to riches? Not when we miss Polin time.

No, why should we hate you? Everyone has their own opinion. I can understand what you mean, but I would think that Colin will struggle in the second part. Being torn between his love for Penelope and his dislike for Lady Whistledown. For me, I believe they should have made season 3 Benedict's story, and given Colin and Pen more time for growth and development. Pen could have been giving him the cold shoulder, really hitting him because he realizes she is so important to him and he has been taking her for granted. And really missing her, because she is keeping her distance, etc. Also given her a proper apology for his hurtful words (which I think he really did not mean, was trying to be one of the guys). So there would already be some tension between them. I could also have done without the constant flirting, his erotica (he wrote such beautiful words in the book) and the brothel scene. They overdid it a bit, showing that Colin was trying to be a kind of womanizer like his buddies and his brothers. What LW wrote in the first episode was quite true, she had seen right through his facade. He knew that and was irked. That's just not his personality, that is why his behavoir seemed so cringy and icky to us. The kiss scene was so heart-felt and I have to say, the carriage scene was very sensual and hot. I don't think you can compare the couples. Everyone is a different person with different personalities and experiences. Each and every lovestory in this world is unique to the couple.

Look, I keep seeing a few people complaining about it, but I think people need to understand that this story is different from the previous ones. I think people are so use to have in media, a bad boy/a man with trauma which meets a girl and exists mutual attraction but because of the trauma they don't be together for a very long time, that when we kind have a relationship which is more healthy without that much of miscommunication and it is more direct, people finds kind of weird? And don't take me wrong, I do love a man yearning and crying and all ( I went crazy with Anthony too😂), BUT it is time to have more space to healthy relationships on our screens, because not everything needs to be a super drama and the couple can't be together because of this and that. And well, this is friendship to lovers. How would friends be friends to lovers if Penolope or Colin wouldn't be friends in most of the episodes till the end? Unlike Kate and Simon, who were both new to the balls and both brothers, Anthony and Daphne, didn't know these people, Pen and Colin have known each other since they were children. For the other two couples, it kind of started with a mutual attraction and with misunderstandings and bad communication between the couples, and during the episodes of their seasons, they got to know each other more deeply and thus fell in love and solved the problems they had in the final. As I said, Pen and Colin, there's no reason to have this. They've both known each other since they were children, it's not something new. Their story/ this season has already started with love because, yes, friendship is love. Penelope was mad at the start but Colin didn't drag the drama by pride or whatever reason and did not apologise, in that he is very different from his brothers, no, Colin was always sensitive about other people's feelings and so he immediately knew he was in the wrong and the very next day he went to search her and apologise and offered his help. Since the first season, and if we are to use our imagination and think that their story began much earlier as children, they have been showing us how they understand and care for each other and respect each other too. Colin always searched for Pen at the balls to talk to her and make jokes about society, how Pen is the only one who really pays attention to the philosophies that Colin wants to share with others about the trips he takes, but no one cares, except Pen. How he talks it easily, as he doesn't do it with anyone else, the insecurities he feels because he doesn't feel like he hasn't found his purpose in life yet and Pen also shares her dreams with him. Colin asks Pen if she's okay when he feels something is wrong because he knows when something isn't right because he knows her better than anyone. How he defends Pen's family, because of her of course, the look of admiration and connection they both give at each other in the ball in season 1 when they are making jokes or in the second season, the look of longing he gives her when he returns from his trips and see her after months, or the look of enchantment he gives Pen when she tells him about her dreams, the letters exchanged between them, Colin defending Pen from Cressida, Colin dancing with her because he truly likes dancing with Penelope, breaking all the rules of etiquette with Penelope etc etc etc, this moments, for the high society of the 19th century, it is literally them already courting each other, so much so that Fife in the last episode of the last season asks if Colin was courting her, they practically behave as married people might behave towards each other at that century. They know each other a thousand times more than many couples who got married in the 19th century. The difference is that with Pen's insecurities, she thinks there's no chance of him wanting to be with her and Colin who doesn't see beyond their friendship (perhaps for fear of losing her friendship) and can't see beyond the little girl he met many years ago, they both remain in this friendship that borders on something more, but without both realising it. Of course, there are certain things that, even as friends, we have difficulty sharing, but they already have the important foundation in a love story. Friendship, understanding, respect, protection, admiration, and loyalty. What was missing in their relationship, unlike the other couples, was desire. Even Pen, who already had the idea that she was in love with him, was more innocent and without any idea of the awakening of sexual desire in their relationship and the same thing happens to him, Colin from the first season who never went to a brothel as Anthony says, so he was probably a virgin and in the second season he didn't even want to think about women, the only women he let near him were his sisters, his mother and of course his dear friend, Penelope who is special enough to overcome the barriers he imposed. This season, they are exploring more in this first part, it is the desire that awakens in both parties after the first kiss, and even before the kiss Colin was already jealous when Pen was talking with that lord who was a fan of lw, the Nick Jonas music, Jealous was playing in the background in that moment. Meanwhile Colin tries to help Pen and at the same time he tries to suppress what he feels and the desire to continue to go to her like before and talk freely without holding back and without needing to change his personality like he is doing with the people around him. Literally, when Pen reads his diary that he's been with women and writes, "I'm amazed at how it's possible to feel so much intimacy, but also such great distance.", it's basically him admitting that he's in shock that one person can be with people so intimately, but without a sentimental connection and this bothers him a lot and he tells his "friends" in the bar, how much he feels lonely. He can't be like Anthony from the first season, or Benedict or any man in society, he doesn't feel satisfied with himself by having 5 minutes of intimacy with unknown women and leaving them as if it meant nothing, he tries to follow what other men do but he doesn't likes it, he needs to feel a more deeply connection in these most vulnerable moments, he doesn't feel that passion that he searching for. Colin is posing a persona to the high society because it seems only like this people praise him, while he becomes more like himself because of Penelope, in till the point he can't no longer pretend to be someone he is not. He finally feels this complete connection that he longs for the moment he kisses Penelope. He feels the feelings that were always there for her and finally with a first more intimate touch with Penelope, the physical desire for Penelope finally awakes/is discovered, everything he was looking for in a person, what he was looking for since the first season and what he was looking for in the 17 cities he visited, it was always there in London in front of his house. And no, I do not believe he knew about Penelope's feelings, because when he asked Violet how she and his father got together, he asked how you knew the other felt the same. And everything culminates and explodes in the carriage scene where he feels true connection and a passion like they never felt before. But first Colin asks everything with Pen's consente. First to enter the carriage, then he needs confirmation that she chose/is in love with Debbling, then when is touching he is always checking that she wants it too. Colin has the courage to declare himself, he doesn't waste time to get the girl because of fears, pride or trauma, no he has the courage to try to change the status of their relationship at the risk of losing the connection/friendship that he has always kept in his heart for Penelope so dearly and Penelope finally admits what she's always held dear: that she wants more than friendship from him. Even the first kiss, that she asked, it was already a bold move from her, the shy little girl of season 1 or 2 would never do it, but for the first time, with fear of never marrying and never feeling the intimacy of another person and of become a spinster, she asks to the one person she trusts and she has feelings for. It is the first time she forgets her fears and gains courage for what she really wants and with that Colin go down bad for her, so much so that he really do what he said in episode 8 of season 2, he wouldn't officially court her or wait another minute, or put obstacles in their relationship, no, he took courage and took action immediately and directly ask her to marry him.

I loved this season I mean in season 1 Daphne and Simon their chemistry wasn’t for me wasn’t strong then season 2 Anthony and Kate they had chemistry but they took to long I liked their scenes in season 3 but I wasn’t really waiting to see them a lot I cared more about Colin and Pen since season 1 when I first watched the series I shipped them felt their chemistry and didn’t know that this series was taken from books and that they are supposed to get together when I found out I was happy and after finishing watching season 3 part 1 I went to read the book it’s amazing and I love it, this season is my favorite. I liked the guy that wanted to propose to Pen but she wants love not someone to marry her and leave her to travel she was already alone yes he liked her personality but he wasn’t falling in love and yes she enjoyed her time with him but when it got serious and he talked to her about proposal she looked like she didn’t want but she will force herself to accept which is wrong and sad so I am happy she didn’t get with him, I didn’t really care that Colin was a playboy it was obvious that he was trying to fit in society which was sad that he think that was the way and him realizing his felling after a kiss was actually realistic I know people who were best friend and something needed to happen for them to realize their feelings and the proposal was amazing it shows Pen that he is serious and not horny because of the kiss also they can get closer while they are engaged even after their marriage.

I have a take on Colin going to brothels... I actually prefer it to what we see Antony and Benedict do in Season 1 and 2 which was to engage in sexual relationships with "mid-level" social class women. Opera singers, artists, and the modiste. While prostitutes are people too with feelings and deserve love and respect (which I think Colin does show, Antony doesn't even speak to the prostitutes in season 2) I believe it's hinting at that Colin doesn't want to hurt a woman's reputation in his hometown/social circle by engaging physically with anyone unless it's that person's literal job. He purposefully doesn't kiss Marina for that reason, even though he's in love at the time and she's consenting to it, because he respects women and knows how the Ton treats them. Heck, he doesn't even tell Penelope his feelings about her until he's sure she's not already engaged. Which seems to say that he doesn't want to put her in an awkward position just because he's interested. And when he DOES become physical with her, he then proposes immediately because she would have been completely shunned from society like Marina. In the book he even says that he would never engage with a woman like her in that way without offering marriage. Just seems super respectful to me.

Also! Also! He has such a lovely relationship with his mother in all the seasons but this one we see such a sweet side. Getting her gifts, apologizing for snapping. It puts Antony's treatment of his mother to shame.
@Rose62415
@Rose62415 2 месяца назад
One more! Antony tells Colin in season 1 he should have taken him to more brothels so he wouldn't have felt eager to marry Marina. Benedict offers so much alcohol to Colin (and Antony) in season 2 to deal with the problems/stress of that season. So we see all those influences add up to season 3 Colin where he thinks he can finally "fit in" by doing all the previously suggested "quick fixes" instead of dealing with your God damn emotions. The other men literally want Colin to not be emotionally mature and caring.

This Eloise forcing her friend and basically blackmailing her and putting her in so much stress pen has been treated terribly by her family and now her friend who the moment they had a fall out befriended the bully in pen. Also the brothell was so unnecessary and forced.

So far im really liking this season other than the Cressida and Eloise pairing. First Eloise was never that great of a friend to Pen, shes always complains while dismissing Pen. And now she goes and befriends the one person who always bullied Pen! LIKE WHAT. and she even semi apologized to Pen being humiliated by Cressida. Nah i dont care what trauma you've had. Doesnt justify any kind of cruelty. If Pen accepts Eloise as a friend again Colin better stop that.

Maybe colin's true suffering will happen during the second half. And maybe pen's height of confidence will come in the second half. I don't think the transformation is complete yet. The LW part could be pen standing up for herself. Accepting herself for who she is and claiming her work. Then she won't need LW anymore cause she IS LW. And colin can either be on board with it or get out of her way. Yes colin wasn't happy when another man might come between him and pen. But maybe he will be more upset if pen's true nature and the opinion of others will come between him and pen. I am just saying, maybe they kept the "jealous of another man" part small cause it is small in their story. The bigger part will be if colin can handle being in a relationship with a strong independent woman. Pen is transforming into LW. Can colin handle LW? Can colin love LW? In a way pen is simular to the queen and LD. But she hasn't come out of her shell yet.

I feel what you are saying but there was no way to make him get the longing that Anthony got because all he needed was Penelope to say yes. She was always in his sphere but I loved he was always looking for her in the ballrooms even in S1 and S2. But we also don't see how much time passes during their meetings so that makes it look likes it really quick. And yes that man ran after that carriage

There absolutely was a way to make the longing rival that of Anthony's. Make Debling actually a considerable romantic option that appreciates Pen right away and legitimately courts her for a love match and treats her better. They made him such a throw away character.

I would've had Colin sweat a hell of a lot more than he did I mean I would've brought in three or four suitors for Penelope you know and make Colin really regret ever saying those words about her I would've had him get to the point of where he's likely going to go mad about her or if he doesn't have her I mean she deserves a hell of a lot better than she has gotten from Colin he needs to see her as a gem not just a friend and I would've had her tell him about being LW in the carriage before he proposed so he'd know the truth

I get the ton and her mother have made her think badly of herself, but being Whistledown she has made herself quite a rich and accomplished woman ( something Colin would be jealous of I think considering he feels he has no purpose)- i wanted an internal glow up for her before she chose Colin.

Ugh… 😣
