In this video I explore the reasons behind the success of the Brazilian football league, what makes it so attractive and how did we get to this point.
The contents presented on this channel were made with the only purpose of entertaining and it should not be used as a source of information. This channel does not support any kind of political organization but only, great and quality football.
The different opinions presented on this video were, mostly, extracted from the following RU-vid Videos:
• ¿Por qué Brasil tiene ...
• Explicando como vergão...
The format used to tell the story takes inspiration from Cleo Abram's video about referees. Since it came to me very handy, I leave a link to her video.
• Why Human Referees Are...

In the 70s, 80s, 90s, the best league was in Brazil until the money came in. Before that, the Brazilian league had the best players, an example of this, Romário, at his peak playing for Barcelona, left there and came to play for Flameng

Between the 1950s and 1980s, the Brazilian Championship was one of the strongest in the world. This was because, at that time, most of the good players stayed in Brazil instead of going to Europe. As a result, Brazilian teams were very competitive. This dominance is clear in the performance of the Brazilian national team in the World Cups. Brazil won three titles (1958, 1962, 1970), was runner-up once (1950), and had other good placements, like third place (1978) and fourth place (1974). Meanwhile, England only won one title (1966) and had a less consistent performance, not qualifying for the 1974 and 1978 World Cups. Moreover, Brazil won three World Cups and reached a final even with players staying in the country, while England won a World Cup where Pelé, one of the greatest players of all time, didn't play. Additionally, Brazil won against Italy in the 1994 World Cup final, securing their fourth title. These points show that, at that time, the Brazilian Championship was really one of the strongest in the world.

The brazilian league is the most competitive league in the wordl. Imagine a league having 12 big clubs, each one having a giant story, important titles and millions of supporters competing for the national title. Different from other leagues (mainly the european ones), the national champions does not have a clear regularity, a big team can fight against relegation in one season and win the title in the next season, or even opposite (The 2 situations happened wirh Fluminense lol). Not only do great teams generate competitiveness, the medium/bad clubs always create difficulty to the big teams, they generally come from parts further away from the south and southeast, like the northeast and center west regions, this logistic quetions makes playing against these teams aways much more difficulty. Unlike in europe where big teams losing againt these sides are considered "schocks", losing points to a minor teams in Brazil It's not that abnormal. Sometimes the bigger teams can be tottaly battered. Although these conditions are always present in the Brazilian football, we are in the best era of the history of Brasileirão. The teams are getting more and more rich and powerfull, with TV deals and Sponsors providing even more money. Brazilian teams now are able to afford more expensive players from europe and all the wordl. While the other south american leagues didn't improve too much since the begin of the 2010's, Brasileirão is evoving more and more every day. Brazilian teams are dominating the Copa Libertadores, the last 5 seasons were won by brazilians teams, and the way things are this will last even longer. Excelente vídeo, apesar de alguns erros, foi um dos unicos videos feito por gringos que conseguiu descrever toda a essência do futebol brasileiro e suas qualidades. Abraços do Brasil🇧🇷 (Excellent video, despite some errors, it was one of the only videos made by foreigners that managed to describe the entire essence of Brazilian football and its qualities. @@zaqueufonseca8952 you didn't understand what he meant, let me explain. Take Minas Gerais for example is a state bigger than Spain and Portugal combined, there are two big clubs, that are comparable to Barça e Real (not in quality) but in tradition and quantity of fans. Then São Paulo, if Sao Paulo were a country it would be in the top 20 GDP, it has 4 big clubs comparable to England, with United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. almost every Brazil state has a club with millions of supporters and a traditional history of winning titles. the Brazilian league is more like the Champions League, than any European league. Again not in quality of players, that is impossible, but in the number of fans, support and history of its clubs in winning titles inside and outside of Brazil.

Fun fact: Just to add to the history of Botafogo downfall in 2023, the beginning of the end was the exit of their former manager Luis Castro, the author of the 13 point gap between Botafogo and the second place. The media said that Cristiano Ronaldo himself called Luis Castro and convinced him to join Al Nasser, ruining Botafogo’s historical run. so yea, CR7 ruined Botafogo.

I remember when I was a child and I would witness how the Brazilian championship was strangely more open to winners compared to other national championships around the world. - In Spain it's always obvious that Barcelona or Real Madrid will win; - In Italy? Milan, Juventus, or Inter; - In Turkey? Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, or Besiktas; - And of course, in Germany I don't even need to mention the name of the likely winner. And although yes, the Premier League is an exception with more than 5 teams competing for the title every year, it still didn't come close to the scale of the competition and how open the title was when we talk about the Brazilian championship. EVERY YEAR we used to see at least 8 teams competing for the title. Just take a look at the list of winners between 2001 and 2017: - 2001: Athletico - 2002: Santos - 2003: Cruzeiro - 2004: Cruzeiro - 2005: Corinthians - 2006: São Paulo - 2007: São Paulo - 2008: São Paulo - 2009: Flamengo - 2010: Fluminense - 2011: Corinthians - 2012: Fluminense - 2013: Cruzeiro - 2014: Cruzeiro - 2015: Corinthians - 2016: Palmeiras - 2017: Corinthians Notice that yes, we have consecutive champions and even one who was champion three times in a row (a unique feat around here that has not happened again to this day). However, only in some of these championships did the victor become champion with a few rounds in advance. Furthermore, the championship is usually so fiercely contested that occasionally teams of enormous size are relegated to the second division. - Vasco - 4 times - 2008, 2013, 2015, 2020; - Botafogo - 3 times - 2002, 2014, 2020; - Grêmio - 3 times - 1991, 2004, and 2021; - Fluminense - 2 times - 1996* (was relegated but did not play in the second division due to corruption) and 1997; - Corinthians - 1 time - 2007; - Atlético - 1 time - 2005; - Santos - 1 time - 2023; - Athletico - 1 time - 2011; - Internacional - 1 time - 2016; - Cruzeiro - 1 time - 2019; - Palmeiras - 2 times - 2002, 2012. Anyway, the Brazilian championship has always been, in my opinion, the most fiercely contested and open championship in the world. It certainly doesn't have the quality of players of the Premier League, but it is by far much more exciting. Both at the top and at the bottom of the table. Unfortunately, in recent years, this competition at the top of the table has been dominated by Palmeiras and Flamengo (with honorable mention to Atlético) due to administrative incompetence of the leaders of other clubs and merit of the leaders of these three mentioned teams.

The Brazilian League is the ELDEN RING of national leagues. And in the 90s, the format was even more brutal: 22 (sometimes 24) teams facing each other in only one round. The Top-eight goes to the brackets, in three games each round, with a three-games final.

There is an added factor in Brasileirão is pressure. Since there are 12 big teams, all with millions of supporters, not one accepts being down for long. That is the reason it is also the league with the most coaching changes during the season. If you are not winning, you're out. Even if you're winning and you lose a derby... Oh boy. Best thing about brasileirão though is that Cruzeiro is finally back with money and power. We'll make waves in the coming seasons.

Just to give you a hint of how humongous of a choke job Botafogo somehow managed to pull off, near the end of the championship, Botafogo managed to lose two straight games that they were winning by 3-0 (to the eventual champion, Palmeiras) and 3-1 (to the eventual runner-up and the team I support, Grêmio, in a game where Luis Suárez scored a hat-trick in 19 minutes).

As a citizen who follows the Brazilian championship closely, I can only say that it is a very interesting and different championship, it is a league that borders on both professional and amateurism, it is a league that even the strongest teams have major flaws, I think this is It must be that few teams that compete in the first division really have teams that only serve to fill a position, since instead of 3, 5 or even 6, there are 12 teams that are considered great, not to mention that there are teams like Bahia, Atlético Paranaense and Bragantino that act as everything to participate in these 12 lately there are only 5 weak teams left in the championship and even so their victories against giants are very frequent, I'm just saying that Brazilian football is a great source of entertainment I forgot to mention the Fortaleza team so in total there are only 4 teams, considerably bad
@martnyng

you are right, but i think these phenomenon of teams having major flaws that seem so obvious is very common (and often, funny) in Latin America, and it is something that gives more joy to it. Personally, I love it!

I really liked your view on our championship. It’s funny that the brazilian media treats the amount of games that we have as a negative trait, but you mentioned it as a positive one. The thing is, your arguments were awesome and you could be a salesperson to talk with investors on the behalf of our football entity, since they don’t seem interested in improving Brasileirao in any way. Just like any other leadership charge in Brazil, they are corrupt and self guided instead of caring about the well being of our beloved football. This league has so much potencial that could be explored by the CBF, but instead they are worried about making deals with the players’ agents in order to get money out of the transfers with european clubs. I’m really happy to see that our national league is getting the respect it deserves by the people that really matter, the common folk and I hope to see Brasileirao at the top tier of the world leagues some day again. Brasileirão is the best league in the world, not in the quality of the players (we don't have money for this), but the balance and dispute that the competition has is impressive. My Santos FC 🤍🖤🐋 in 2019 was the best Brasileirão runners up in history (like Liverpool in the same year) and almost win the fourth Libertadores in the next year with the biggest financial crisis on the club. Just 3 years later we get the relegation for the first time in history. I believe we will fight again at the top with Neymar in 2025💪

Only thing I'll say is that is debatable that playing that many games in the season is a good thing, we find ourselves constantly debating whether or not we should change our calendary year because teams need to have huge rosters to be able to compete properly in so many competitions in a consistent manner, injuries are a constant problem for big teams here. That being said, I enjoyed your video, and I'm happy that there are people out there that likes our leagues (:

It’s amazing to see the brasileirao being talked about by gringos! Amazing video, though I’d like to mention a few things A lot of the stuff you mentioned as positives, may even be a good thing for entertainment, but are a disaster for the clubs. A completely packed calendar means that teams have to heavily rotate their squads and injuries are frequent, all the while they need to have way more players than european clubs, which means that they’re able to spend less money on big signings and getting the best players. Not only that, but as much as the chaos of getting managers sacked and signed all the time is fun, it’s a sign of clubs that have bad planning and unprofessional directors, which frequently hinders their progress and means money and time spent in a very unwise manner.

At the beginning of the season, the list of favorites for the title always starts with the last 2 or 3 from the previous season, added to 5 or 6 who stood out in the state championships, or who reinforced the squad at the beginning of the year. So, when the championship starts we have at least 7 candidates for the title.

Great video, man. I think that the "worst" part of the video was in the end lol. As a brazilian, I like a lot when our league overflows our continental country. As you mentioned, the Brazil league is insane, with up and downs every each rounds. IDK how this fact is being spoken outside Brazil, but there's a real chance of Neymar returnment (Santos) in the end of his agreement with Al Hilal. Actually, in Paulistão he visited the Vila Belmiro Stadium to watch the game against Corinthians and in the final (Santos x Palmeiras) he entered in the field with the trophy. It's really true, we export a lot of great players to the main leagues of the world. Stay good.

You mentioned about the possibility of a team play 92 matches in a year as a positive aspect. However, many managers and journalists actually complain about that, since players don’t have enough time to recover and train. Brazil is also giant, so the amount of time spent on travel is also a negative point. However, as a Brazilian fan, I really enjoy our league. I have a lot of fun watching the teams fighting against relegation.

I loved your video, I'm a Grêmio fan, my team here is nicknamed the "King of Cups", for having won many Brazilian Cups (5, 3 of which are undefeated), and Libertadores (3). As if we were Manchester United in the FA Cup and Champions League. Grêmio is a team from the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which revealed players such as Douglas Costa, Ronaldinho Gaúcho (one of the best players Brazil has ever had), Renato Gaúcho, Lucas Leiva, Anderson and Arthur Melo. Our coach is currently Renato Gaúcho, who was world champion as a player with Grêmio in 1983 and brought us the third Libertadores in 2017. I would say that for Grêmio fans he is like Alex Ferguson in terms of his time in command. (11 seasons leading the team in the last 14 years) Today football in Rio Grande do Sul is at a standstill due to a flood that devastated the entire state. Grêmio and Internacional, which form the biggest rivalry in the country, had to come together to save lives. In the week that I write this, football for these two will have already returned, Grêmio plays on Wednesday for the Libertadores, but outside their stadium which is flooded and outside the state.
