This .Strandberg* Boden Original NX7 is meant to be the pinnacle of ergonomic guitar design but it feels...different. It's unlike any seven string electric guitar I've ever played before and I want to share my thoughts with you.

In this review we look at this Strandberg extended range electric guitar and see how good it really is. Strandberg have worked on the Boden for many years to create an ergonomic guitar that is meant to feel and play like nothing else. This Original NX7 is one of their extended range options and provides a lot of awesome features like the Patented Strandberg Endurneck, Fishman Fluence Modern pickups, chambered swamp ash, stainless steel frets, and ergonomics like no other guitar. Even though it's packed with features for all guitar players, I do have some thoughts. Let's take a look.

*Note* Just correcting something dumb I said in this video. Shout out to @BarbecuedClorox3852 for pointing out that there is in fact a hardtail Strandberg with a Richlite board; the Metal. Stupid thing is I was looking at a second hand one last week 😂 Just completely left my brain. I've cut those few seconds out so if there's a weird skip around 6 minutes in you know why. Sorry Strandberg if you see this!

That is fantastic, strandberg is such a game changer. I have to try one, I’m a massive “dad” guitar fan and I need to crawl out my comfort zone and try something else other than a strat or tele or a les paul😂 As always your videos are amazing and I your playing is so inspiring. No need to thank me dude, I’m just glad you enjoyed the video! I’ve got to say the Strandbergs have helped me a ton. They’re not a miracle cure but they help me play for longer with less pain. If you can try one then I would totally recommend it! Also, outside guitar, I’m finding tons of relief from doing resistance band upper body strengthening stuff. Thought it was worth mentioning! Cheers dude 🤘

That’s all I’ve owed for 3 years but be careful once you play these it’s hard playing a standard normal guitar. From the neck to a guitar with a head all due to the weight. After playing these for three years I can’t play a normal guitar anymore.

Take super fine steel wool to the neck and apply a small amount of Tru-Oil to the neck. You'll find it to be faster and much smoother. i have a Boden original 7 trem with "Surh Hott 7" humbuckers w/push pull tone to split the coils. The neck finish was removed and had the Tru-Oil applied and i absolutely love it! it's a dream guitar and does exactly what i want it to do when im playing it!

I've got a Strandberg 8 string Boden. The one thing I don't like about it is the endure neck shape. I find the neck on my other 8 strings over the Strandberg. But, I love how it sounds, so I keep it.

I totally get that. The Endurneck is definitely not for everyone. It's made a massive difference to how much pain I feel in my hands and how long I can play for, so that converted me for sure, but it's definitely weird! Cheers for checking out the video man 🤘

Great coverage and love your enthusiasm. The only thing I would have liked to have seen was some low B in your playing. Have you got any other videos that might cover this? I noted you mentioned how it's not like a traditional 7 string - I tried a Schecter Keith Merrow Legacy 7 recently and it instantly felt like home. Super light and slim body (probably close to Ibanez S range) and the neck was buttery smooth. Definitely keen to see what one of these feels like. Beautiful looks on this one, similar vibes to my frozen ocean RG in my profile pick and mine also has Fishman, birdseye maple and stainless steel frets 🤘🤘

Thank you my dude! Yeah there is actually a video that's almost all lower strings, tuned to drop A. It's the Learning Vantablack video from a little while ago but you'll see a lot of that there *and me messing up* 😂 I've never tried the Merrow but they look stunning. Would love to give one a go. And yeah, this is a beautiful guitar, I wish they did this finish in a 6 but it's only for lefty atm. Frozen ocean is my favourite RG finish mate, I know the exact guitar you're talking about and they're gorgeous. Thanks again mate 🤘

How would you say the ibanez q series 7 compares to the strandberg? I want a headless 7 but i know it wont get a ton of playing time so Im not sure if i should spring for the strandberg (have a standard nx6 i love) or try out the ibanez at half the price.
@JackTaylorGuitars
@JackTaylorGuitars 11 месяцев назад
Cheers for checking out the video mate! So, I like the Quest 7 but the profile of the neck is crazy thin. If you like that it’ll be cool but it kind of feels like a strat with a wafer thin neck and body. The Strandberg is a different animal but I totally get the price difference is huge. I’d really say try and play a Quest if you can. Thanks again mate! 🤘

thanks for another great video! i subscribed a few days ago and i realy am enjoying your channel, keep it up:) i just bought the original nx 6 and i totally agree, the lack of richlite fretboard realy sucks although i don't know if it's worth having the trem and the headache it brings. i dont know how to setup a floating trem and i do drop tuning on and off all the time... im gonna send back the original because it has alot of issues because its used and i will buy a new one. so what do you think is the richlite worth the headache?
@JackTaylorGuitars
@JackTaylorGuitars 9 месяцев назад
That’s awesome of you mate, thanks so much. It means a ton to me! So, I am a trem fan, I definitely prefer to have one but for drop tuning it would be a pain in the ass, definitely. I personally would favour a fixed bridge over the rich lite board if I was changing tunings a lot or even going from standard to drop because even that change in tension puts the whole thing out of whack easily on the strandberg trem. More so than others it seems. I hope that helps and you get something that suits you, thanks again! 🤘

@JackTaylorGuitars
@JackTaylorGuitars Год назад
Thank you my dude, that means a lot to me! So, the Quest and Strandberg are both great guitars but they’re very different. The Quests feel like a very light and thin Strat whereas the Strandberg is totally it’s own thing. They’re unlike anything else I’ve ever played but they’re maybe not for everyone. Absolute 10/10 guitars if you get along with them though. I hope that helps man!🤘

@@JackTaylorGuitars thank you so much brother. I'm testing new multiscale guitars to see if they fit me and, although I already get used to the multiscale thing, there's something (I think is 100% ergonomic) that doesn't feel right. I already own a Jackson HT7 MS which is a great guitar but I'm curious to see if a headless guitar will offer that ergonomics I'm looking for. Btw, I asked for the Quest because they have slanted frets (no multiscale) but I think they would feel almost the same as play into a multiscale fretboard. Thanks for the feedback bro!
@JackTaylorGuitars
@JackTaylorGuitars Год назад
@@zinhosalaverry8294 I get you dude. If you’re looking for ergonomics man then the Strandbergs are just top tier. Once you go Strandberg you can't go back! It's funny how some people find Richlite a dealbreaker. To be fair the Fluence Modern pickups are the best active ones I’ve heard but I just started using the Mark Holcomb Scarlett and Scourge pickups(passive) and those things are beautiful. Highly recommend.

Dude, I’d love to try the new Holcomb Duncans. I loved the Alpha & Omega set on the old signature so those are definitely ones I’d like to try out!

@@Nickshreds890 I had an 8 string with Fishman Fluence modern pickups and they did sound better than the emgs I had previously tried, my main complaint is that active pickups just sound like they are missing some headroom or harmonic overtones. It’s like the difference between tube amps vs plug ins or modelers. They are close but just not quite the same. It’s probably purely subjective but its consistent to my ears.

I recently tried this guitar and i have to say that i am disappointed. I like the weight and the size of the guitar, but some design features aren't as thought out as i want them to be. The cutaway at the bottom of the guitar that's supposed to make playing in the classical position while having the guitar on only one leg does not work without further support. The guitar is too small under your struming hand to securely lock the guitar in place and a little head dive issue makes this way of holding the guitar exhausting. I tried not to throw the guitar on the flor and started sitting in a very tight and uncomfortable mannor. The next issue i found is, that the tuners feel really bad. I think that some sort of tool to give you a little more leverage to turn the tuners would solve this. And now my biggest problem with this guitar. The endure neck is not for everyone. I couldn't propperly play in the higher frets because i don't place my thumb the same way the next profile is guiding me to. That's such a dealbreaker. It's like relearning to walk. All my musclememory was useless just because the neck did not allow me to place my thumb the way i wanted to. I just wish there was a strandberg, that had a conventional neckprofile, a little longer body to tuck under your arm and smoother tuners.

I think if you played on a strandberg ling enough, it would fix the poor technique it seems is ruining your experience of it
