This was a truly romantic movie, and usually I can't stand romantic films; this one didn't feel cheesy or trite, it was genuinely good. I'd especially recommend it to m/m fans, because I felt they really got the romance right in this.
I am a practicing attorney, former convict, and gay man who was married and had children. I did not realize how much my live resembled this movie until one of my clients mentioned that I reminded her of this movie. Not only is this movie possible, it is very close to my own life. This is my new favorite movie because it makes me feel like I am not the only person in the world who has lived an alternative life.
Excellent movie. Steven Russell is still in solitary confinement to this day. Can you imagine being stuck in a 6 x 9 concrete box for over 25 years? Please spread the word and let’s get him out! This genius has a heart and brain the size of Texas and he has more than paid for all his wrongdoings. He has earned his freedom.
This movie is so fun and so gay to watch...and it's based on a true story! really, Steven Russell did escape from prison FOUR FUCKING TIMES...he just kept getting caught again and now he's serving 144 years in 23 hour a day lockdown...virtually solitary confinement..and everything he does is supervised because the authorities are so afraid he'd manage to escape again...

Also, your grammar makes no sense, not mine. I'm not homophobic. It was a misunderstanding. I think Ewan McGregor is the hottest creature to walk the earth. Right, done deal.
There are two amazing things about the story behind this movie: 1) Steven got himself out of jail five times, like, according to Phillip he actually literally walked out the doors, and 2) the real Phillip really is as tender-hearted as he seems to be in the movie ( according to himself ), and for me it's really amazing because I know a lot of kind and caring people but none of them are as tender-hearted as he is in some ways I think.
Great Movie. Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey were perfect. I have never been a fan of Jim Carrey but I have to give him props for his Oscar worthy performance.
I can't believe i just found this film now. I usually can't really stand romance comedy movies, but this one really left a great impression on me , Jim and Ewan's performance in this movie was really good !! Also, Ewan is so absolutely adorable in this movie i can't
The funniest part of the movie when the guy was yelling inside his cell then gets his ass beat the next day making the same yelling sound as he's getting beaten 🤣
I'm a gay man, but I couldn't help but feel little bit of contempt for the Russell character. The way he deceived, exploited, and eventually abandoned his clueless wife and daughter.
I don’t think the character was really supposed to be portrayed as a good guy lol. I’m sure the wife was devastated but this story isn’t about her, so she is just a side character for this particular story that is being told. It makes sense the two would stay in contact and be nice to each other as they have kids, plenty of divorce coupled are still friends
I feel bad for them too, back in day being an out homosexuel just wasn't an option for alot of people. Fwiw, one of my closest friends married a woman (back in the early 80's) the same time hoping he could just "pray the gay away." Thankfully it didn't last long at all & they didn't have any children, but he still feels terrible about it almost 40 year after the fact. His ex wife still won't talk to him
Wow I’m just watching this on a whim on amazon prime and it’s incredible! It came out when I was like 15 I thought it would just be cheesy and homophobic; it is absolutely awesome though and their chemistry is to die for! Actually well important for when it came out too cos people were still a bit “ewww their gay back then”, or at least in my age group. I haven’t finished it yet but it’s a masterpiece so far
I remember watching this movie on SBS at like One in the Morning and I was intrigued that it was a Jim Carrey movie but when I saw it, oh boi I didn't expect it to be so funny and amazing, its a concept that I've never seen before but it was really good and well made and even had an M Night Sharmalon (or however you spell it) level twist that I never saw coming.

when i saw the text at the end at how he went back into jail and got a life sentence, my heart literally broke 😞 he broke out again and then the movie ends. knowing that he's stuck in this cycle and never changed himself is so .. ugh also, this movie made me think abt how people can get away from making gay movies by giving it a bad ending and it makes me sad. i wish they were happy
I just finished watching this and GOD! If you watched it, you'll know what I'm talking about. Playing with my heart like that, legit Russel deserved that big ol SLAP IN THE FACE!
This movie is brilliant. It's funny and clever at different moments, but it is also emotionally moving and still portrays gay people as real people, rather than the ridiculous feminine version on some TV shows. Ewan McGregor does a fantastic job portraying a realistic gay man, as is, as always, gorgeous and extremely adorable.
one of the best acting of the century both mcgregor and carrey :) srsly so underrated and to turn such heist thing into comedy and then add a wee bit of drama was so awesome :) and srsly again carrey and mcgregor was awesome! p.s the trailer shows the whole movie -_- dont watch it before watching the movie -_-
I don't think anyone else noticed this but in the movie, 10.28 min before it ends (I don't know the exact time because im watching it on Netflix) the calendar goes from 13 to 15 (it doesn't have 14). I noticed it by accident.
