DS-era Gamefreak _hit differently_ and we took that for granted.

If there was any point where the main series peaked, which i don't per se believe, it would certainly be either HG/SS or B2/W2

Gamefreak’s specialty was in 2-D Pixel art graphics and the jump added a lot of layers of complexity that they probably still find to be difficult to work with.

There's so much potential in SwSh for things like this, it just feels so unfinished compared to the other mainline games. These little details and references make the world feel so much bigger and magical. Still waiting for battle frontier ):

I think I have a better idea: have the NPCs (specifically Gym Leaders, the Elite 4, and the Champion) play like competitive players. But each next Gym Leader will prioritize certain mechanics and techniques and even combining that with what earlier Gym Leaders focused on. For example, one teaches the player about switching out your Pokémon and switch moves. Another about setting up with Tailwind and other stat buffs/debuffs, another about priority brackets and the effects of Held Items, one about stalling and status effects, and maybe one about weather conditions. The Elite 4 and Champion would naturally be a test of everything you have learned up to that point.

@@slimballs9650 ^ this. I would love a game where the main story teaches you how to play competitive. Have all the regular trainers fight in single battles with some Ace trainers to test you on certain teams and concepts. Then in each gym have the gym trainers introduce you to the concept the gym leader will use for their team and teach you how to counterplay against it. By the end of the game the player should have decent knowledge about competitive and can now go online and participate in competitive battles

@@slimballs9650 I think this assumes the target audience of 7-year-olds has the patience and competitive analysis needed to complete the game and still want to buy the next one.

Though, the difference is much more pronounced in Metagross's case. And it can't learn Ice Beam anyway. It'd be like giving that same Lucario the unavailable Iron Head rather than Flash Cannon.

@@kirbyfreakyt4695 Lucario works a lot better as a physical attacker due to the moves he gets. Besides, it's 5 point difference while in Metagross' case it is 40 points difference.

@@shapooopiefour7173 I'm not 100% sure, but from what I heard is that people wanted an omega-ruby and alpha sapphire of gen 4 because if they can make a good game, then remake it and make it great game, they could take a great game and remake it into a masterpiece. Gen 4 is placed on this weird pedestal in the community for a variety of reasons, some valid and some "if you dont think gen 4 is the best then you don't have taste" kinds of arguments on why its on that metaphorical pedestal. It helped that it was a bit of a meme taken too seriously. On a side note, most of the "criticism" B2W2 gets are one of 2 things. The first being the oddly common misconception that B2W2 are like platinum, and therefore have the same problems as BW (as hypocritical as that is) so it gets flak for some of the controversial moves BW made. This has died down over the years but there are still parts of the community that this opinion festers. The second and far more common reason is simply "I haven't played it, but I have played platnum and it was great so theres no way B2W2 compare" Generally, for people that played them they rank Generally in the top 3

@@timdoe8895 they aren't, though. They had to be downloaded to have access to them. So unless you know how to modify the PWT you can't
