In this video, I reply to a RU-vid comment asking "if I'm putting flyers on doors, should I knock, too?"
The answer is yes, you should knock every door and leave a flyer to every one who doesn't answer. For those that do answer, you can even ask them for feedback on the flyer. Feedback is the most important part of any marketing effort, and simply leaving flyers and not knocking isn't going to get you much feedback.
