They might be the most talented & beautiful band I've ever seen & heard. Tamu is one amazing drummer , Haraguchi is a top notch bassist, the duo lead work from Saki & Hazuki is off the charts and Mayu's voice is so unique and beautiful and her range is beyond. love'em.
Love how Tamu just collapses over the drums at the end like "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!!" haha As for the original, you should check out a live version. This song is an absolute CLASSIC of a song by X Japan and it's massive live! Classic japanese female rock/metal band ShowYa (who were around at the same time as X Japan and are still active) did a great (albeit shorter) cover of this as well that is great. X Japan drummer and pianist Yoshiki is a legend and the reason you sometimes see a neck-brace as a symbol in japanese rock/metal. As far as I know he had to wear one when performing since he was going off so hard that he actually messed up his neck. Remember Babymetal's Headbanger where they hit the Gong in the end before collapsing? As far as I know that reference goes back to Yoshiki as well. Sorry for the 3 months delayed reply. Tamu's collapsing at the end is an imitation of Yoshiki (as is her playing style throught the video) because he regularly collapsed during concerts and needed to be carried off by staff to get oxygen backstage. He suffers from pretty bad asthma and often (almost always) went over his limits in their shows.
You must see Kurenai The Last Live, recorded at the Tokyo Dome on December 31, 1997. The Band was ending activity and this was their farewell. The band, however, has since reunited, though this was their last live concert with guitarist Hideto "hide" Matsumoto, who died nearly half a year thereafter. Nemophila members have a connection to "Kurenai" composer Yoshiki. When Yoshiki was holding auditions for a group he was putting together, "Ladys X", back in 2016-17, drummer Tamu, who was then with Soramimi, auditioned for Yoshiki, playing to "Kurenai", and guitarist Hazuki, then a member of Disqualia, also auditioned. There was a "Mayu" who auditioned too, although not sure if it was Nemo's Mayu - who did her own "Kurenai" cover with "Mayu's Project" live later. Nothing came of Ladys X, but Tamu said at the time that it had been a dream of hers to meet Yoshiki, and it came true. The English lyrics of "Kurenai" aren't very good. The original Japanese lyrics are thought by some X Japan fans to refer to Yoshiki's father, who committed suicide when Yoshiki was young, though it's not clear if the song's narrator is the father addressing the son, or the son addressing the father. In classical Japanese literature, 紅涙 "kurenai tears" or "crimson tears", which is in the lyrics, refers to tears that flow directly from the heart.
Thank you for reacting to my favorite band!! I am in love with Haraguchi-san (bass) as well, that smile of hers just lights my soul! The talent is unreal and there is nothing they can't play/sing and kill it!
kind of stumbled into Nemophila a year or so ago. If anyone has heard of the Naon Yaon concerts? Put on every year by the group SHOW-YA. An all girl music fest in Japan. One song had 5 guitars. 1 bass. drums. keyboard. I knew most of them. Yashiro (Mary's Blood. RAMI) Saki (Mary's Blood.Nemophila) Ayumi (Bridear) Marin (Lovendor) Sakura (Hagane) on guitar. On Keyboard was Ayano (Cyntia). Bass was Azu (Cyntia. LAZYgunsBRISKY). The drummer was a mystery. Could not find any group info on her. Eventually i came across some demo solo work. Then one day. Nemophila. Finally found her in a group, Tamu Murata. As i am getting into the song. a wait just a GD min here!!! WTF! moment. That is Hazuki and Saki on guitars!! cool!!! Been a fan of Hazuki for a long time. Followed her thru her various groups. (Disqualia. she did some work with Li-Sa-X and live shows with RAMI)
It's obvious that at the start they're all thinking about HIDE (X-japan guitarist - RIP). Tamu is used to cover that song and of course, Mayu's voice is perfect (even if I prefer the japanese lyrics).
Oh X-Japan... now check out the original... or one of my fav-drummer Dainashi that makes a drumcover of this song 140% speed!!!!: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S4NliciaXHw.html
Chief, this has made my week. Kurenai is my favourite song since my Japanese Journey began last year. Honestly,I play it at least 3 times a day. I love this cover but prefer the X Japan live version. Tamu does Yoshiki proud. I do like that you really hear Haraguchi San killin' it on the bass. Guitars on point and Mayu is her usual awesome self. Take the time to watch X Japan Endless Rain also from the last live. It's special. Again, thank you very much for doing this.
Yoshiki of X Japan is a musical genius. There’s only a handful of drummers and guitarists good enough to cover his stuff well, and Nemophila has them. You’d have to go poaching around in the extreme metal bands to find more! Tamu Murata was doing X Japan covers years before settling down with Nemophila, though. Love her.💪🏻🤘🏻
Have you ever heard of a band called "Ok Goodnight" ? The singer, Casey lee Williams, sing since she 6 it I remember correctly, and have also a distinct voice. Their is a one take video of her in the band youtube chanel if you want to check. It is prog rock/metal btw.
You should watch the original last live concert before Hide killed him self and you'll know that they remembered about it and felt sad. hope that they would've sing in Japanese was much more better.
Always emotional knowing the history. I also like the newer version with piano and violin intro. Sugizo's violin is so emotional it often has me blubbering before we get to the main song.
I like your polite comment and reaction. They have really wide range of music style. As you have reacted already, they can play emotional song "Life" to brutal song "Dissention". Try "Oiran" live. It's hot! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-19VQ9tkWksQ.html
They are the masters of Covers And Mayu has sung this one a few times! perfecting it LOL and Tamu can play it in her sleep its part of Japan metal folk lour . There good dam good and destined to be super stars .Chief have you got your cd yet Oiran extended Edition .£15 delivered from the UK from JPU records UK . All the songs so far on one CD with a English Dissension Fighter is my personal favourite on it .And Mayu did 90 mins of this level of performance at the resent online show no problem .
Solid cover. You should definitely check out the live version from the original X Japan. Look for the version with violin intro… really like that live version.
Shame it's the English version of the song, for various reasons. The lyrics are pretty bad and don't really fit in the song because it seems like they just translated the words 1 to 1 (they didn't, but it seems that way), Mayu doesn't speak English and Japanese is the more beautiful language imo. To give you a few connections to the original that are happening in the video: #1 Mayu screams "Nemophila da!" at the beginning after the solo guitar part because Toshi, the vocalist of X Japan always screamed "Kurenai da" at the beginning of the song. #2 The faces down (don't know how to describe it) at the beginning is probably because they're thinking of X's deceased guitarist Hide, who accidentally killed himself in '98. Japan was in mourning after the news broke and over 50k people went to his funeral, on the hottest day of that year. #3 Drummer Tamu is imitating X's drummer Yoshiki's playing style. He always played with 120% of his energy and a lot of "theatrics". The whole hunched forward sitting position was especially later on in his career so as to be able to hit the drums extra hard because his sponsor (I think it was TAMA, too) wanted him to play on transparent acryl drums and he hated that drumset because he had to hit it 3x as hard as a normal set. He also needed to wear a neckbrace at live shows since the early 90s (I think) because of neck damage sustained from their live shows, too much headbanging, etc. #4 They all laugh at the end because Tamu collapses on the drum set, another thing that happened regularly during concerts with Yoshiki because he suffers from pretty bad asthma and often went over his limits. They always had oxygen masks backstage for him so he could even continue the concert oftentimes.
one thing i suggest is to learn all their names. I try to learn the names of all "my" girls. (~130 bands now so alot) but here we have on vocals - Mayu. Guitars (glasses) Hazuki and Saki. Drums is Tamu Murata and on bass is Haraguchi-San
Its a sick fast song, but it hits you when you read the lyrics and realize that Yoshiki from X Japan, who made this song. Lost his father when he was 10 (to suicide) and its a message for him..
Several Babymetal songs are heavily inspired by them. DONT miss below 1. X (live) 2. Endless Rain 3. Tears 4. Voiceless Screaming 5. Silent Jealousy (BEEEEEEEEEEST song) P.S. X japan was phenomenal. Too bad their recent stuffs are not remotely closed to their prime :(
