Hey, it's Mayim, and now that The Big Bang Theory is behind me, I'm finding out what it's like to be a stay-at-home mom again with my two boys. And boy...is it different. I'm sure lots of parents will be able to relate to this feeling in different ways, so I'd love to hear some advice, or even just words of comfort, from you all about how to navigate this time of growing up and growing away.
---
You may know me as Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory, or from Blossom, but hopefully, these videos allow you to get to know me better as Mayim, too! Subscribe to my channel for video updates. I upload new videos every Thursday!

About Mayim Bialik:
You might know me as Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory or from Blossom but there are so many other parts of me that you might not be aware of! I’m trained as a neuroscientist, I'm a passionate activist, an observant Jew, a perfectly imperfect mother, and I'm a complicated human being like many of you. This is the place where I wear all of those hats - and none of them have a flower on them! ;)

I am not a mom, but a nineteen-year-old who can tell you that despite your kids growing older, start to slowly grow apart, becoming more independent and figuring out who they are, you won't get less important to them. It may seem like it since they learned to watch over themselves and can maneuver most situations without your help. But where they are now, where they stand, this is all thanks to you and they will never forget that. And you will always be their mother and they will love you just as much as they used to before.

@meghanplamondon8639

I raised four and in the early years dreaded the sound of “mommy” being screamed non stop. Even in stores, I was trained to turn my head to any call from a small child saying “mommy”. My pockets or bags always held tissues, new or used. I had snacks stashed in the car or pocketbooks just in case someone was having a meltdown. This changed to potty training, driving to sport activities, to boyfriends houses, off to school.....I didn’t have the empty nest syndrome when they began to leave, because , honestly, I had a few more still at home. I realized that I made all of my mistakes with trial and error on my first born, but got much better by number four. They all survived me and have gone on to good careers and move out of the house and into their own with their new family. My house has become quieter, which I love, and cleaner, which I love even more. Now the next part is my grandkids who are quickly filling up the void left when my gang moved out. It’s just a circle and I have found that any stage I am in at the moment seems to always be the best ( although being a grandma really is fabulous! ) .

Ieasha Woods toddlers are the best:) curious little creatures that sometimes test you to your very core. Then you watch them sleep and your heart just explodes. Every stage is precious, it’s all learning and changing and accepting you are going to make mistakes. But one day as tough as the toddler stage is you will miss it. You’ll miss everything about it, especially knowing it’s never coming back... but then you look at your amazing child and how they grew into this amazing person and your heart explodes... just like when you used to watch them sleep. My children are now 19 and 21... it really is true, it goes by in a blink if the eye.... but I remember those long toddler days. They can be challenging but just remember you might be one temper tantrum away from ever having another one, one bed time story away from the last.. one potty accident from never buying diapers or pull ups again... there will be lots of lasts... but still many first. Enjoy the ride:)

I would mention that I am not sure that the whole TV thing made much of a difference. My eldest turned from a little girl who saw the world through my eyes into a teenager who basically wants me away from her and her friends because she is building a world of her own, in like six months. I knew it was coming, and I know that it is good because it means she is growing properly, but boy it is hard. I thought that it would be gradual and it was definitely not. Anyway, what I meant is that this development would probably have blindsided her even staying at home.

But you have done new stand the hugs are Not going to last forever or grandma's kisses are not going to last forever or mama's kisses are not going to last forever because they outgrow that... They say mom a grandmaw I'm too old for that or my friends are watching stop that.... But in the world today you wouldn't want to be caught hugging or kissing your son or daughter because you never know how someone's gonna take it... What's really stinks.... My best friend gave his best friend A hug in a store one time and she got fired because Boss thought she was doing something sexual... She took that place to court but she lost because she was socializing during work hours but really she only had 5 minutes left... And on her record 8 says she was fired for sexual harassment by giving somebody a hug... And it's still on her record to day we gotta be careful you never know who's watching who's taking pictures or what somebody will say.. I know it's a little silly for me to say this But this is the world we have come to

I loved my kids band made sure they knew it but I gotta say, grandkids are the best. If you can hang on through the tough parenting years and they can be the hardest times you can imagine and the best as well. But if you can hang on through the toddler tantrums, the school years, the dating heartbreaks, weddings.....the you get the reward. Grandchildren. All the love, all the fun, all the play, but not the all encompassing, overwhelming responsibility. You young moms hang on, don’t be discouraged. I made every mistake possible raising my kids but kids are resilient. And I’m having a ball with my grands. Each one different, each one special, each one loving and affectionate. It’s a great life and a wonderful gift to have kids.

Mayim, being a stay-at-home mom is a wonderful thing to be. I am positive you're going to find new ways to bond with your children as time goes on. One very important aspect I saw in your video was the real love you have for your children. Hold onto the hugs as long and as often as you can and build precious memories that can sustain you when they are grown and leave home. "LAK - Life After Kids" is great too, but I would gladly trade it all for a good hug from my boys at nighttime. p.s. I enjoyed and appreciated the joy you gave me as "Amy".

I burst into tears when you described the difference in the bed time ritual. My daughter is 15 and still climbs into bed with me a couple nights a week. We play with the dog and sometimes we watch funny animal videos and giggle together. It’s very difficult to let go of my only baby but at the same time it’s wonderful to see her bloom into a lovely young woman. She doesn’t need Mommy so much anymore, but she does need Mom. She still initiates hugs and pre-bedtime giggle sessions...it’s good.

This brought a real tear to my eye (and down my cheeks if I’m honest!). As a 28 year old married woman, I can still remember the way it felt when my mum would lie behind me when I was a little girl and I’d had a nightmare or couldn’t sleep. I think about it more often now, since she passed away. I don’t doubt that even though you may not be the centre of their worlds anymore, your love will be at the centre of them forever, because that love and security you give them is such a blessing, and they will feel the effects throughout life 💖 I hope my husband and I will be lucky enough to be able to go through these defining experiences ourselves one day, and have our own children to adore. I very much enjoy your videos, even if I may not agree always on more divisive topics or have similar experiences, it’s lovely to hear somebody express their point of view so eloquently and not at all judgementally 😊 all the best x

Melissa H it makes me so happy when I see or hear of a child who is setting boundaries, because it’s a sign of a healthy home. A child that will just accept to have their hair ruffled etc that’s a child I worry about because all humans if it’s a healthy home will get to the point where they ask the person to stop to ruffle their hair. I love to hear that her children are comfortable telling her ”no” when she asks them if they wish to play board-games. A safe child is aware of their right to set boundaries in big and small ways.💛

This was sooo comforting and hilarious and sad and just... all of the emotions! My daughter is nearly 18 months and I dread the day that I will have to go a whole day of work without her and not be able to watch her discover new things and get to love her all the time. But she will grow in her own way and so will I and she will love me for it. For now, I’m just appreciating every moment and taking it as it comes! ❤️🥰 loved this so much.

Remember parents, the days may be long, but the years are surprisingly short. Over 1k likes? You, parents, humble me! I give over 1k likes to YOU, parents! To the sleep deprived parents! To the parents of toddlers, teenagers and every age in between! To the parents whose kids are parents themselves! To the parents enjoying that 30 seconds between their kids falling asleep and themselves falling asleep! To the full-time parents and the part-time parents! To the parents who are confused between feeling guilty their kids don’t need them always but enjoying peace for the first time in DECADES! I give YOU over 1k likes the working parents and the working-from-home parents! You will ALWAYS be the most important person in the room!! To acting parents, neuroscientist parents, high school graduate parents and school of hard knocks parents! To all the parents whose descriptions are not mentioned here! Each and every one of you have over a thousand likes from me!! I thank you all in general and I thank Mayim Bialik specifically for allowing me this forum. @ryewhiskey3437

I think it’s a common expression. I heard it on a local radio station years ago. When I heard it, I just thought that truer words were never spoken. When a child is upset or sick or won’t sleep, 24 hours seems like a lifetime. I look at my eldest and can remember every detail of carrying him in my arms. Where his head rested, how he weighed next to nothing, his new baby smell, I can hear all his types of crying from fussy to hungry to in pain, and then realize that he’ll be 17 in two months.

Omg. I was nodding my head like crazy when you were talking! I can relate so much! While my son is a few years older than yours (he's 19), I had/have all the same feelings you expressed. I remember when my son needed me ALL THE TIME. He never liked me out of his line of sight. Hugs and cuddles came freely w/o eye rolls and sighs. Soon he'll be out on his own and living his life. When I look at him, I can't help but to be proud of the man he's become/becoming. You still have many years before this happens, so enjoy every moment.
