I am a slow reader. If I read too fast I don't comprehend.

Don't read for reading sake. Read only for your own personal enjoyment . You can read faster if your goal is to finish book faster, but say goodbye to comprehension. Only thing to focus while reading is read slowly like enjoying an icecream and rereading. Don't read any book. Read according to your own personal interest. Selection matters. Life is too short

I usually read 10 pages per hour, which is ridiculously slow. The worst part is that my comprehension is not that good either. I disagree with you; being a slow reader is a bad thing as time is too limited nowadays. Reading shorter books, comics, or mangas is not a solution in my opinion; it's just a coping mechanism so you can say you finished a lot of things, but it won't make you read faster or better. What matters is the quality of the content, not the amount. The best thing we can do is accept our limitations and still tackle longer books without anxiety.

I need almost 13-15 hours for a 350 page book and my friends spent 6 hours maximum. That's so annoying. I understand you. Thank you for sharing your concern with us ❤

It can be really frustrating... But we're still getting books finished ❤️

I thought I was a fast reader, as I can generally finish a decent sized book in about a week, but I hear people talk about finishing like 9 or 10 books in a months and say that it's less than normal, like you, so maybe I'm slow too.

9 or 10 sounds so unrealistic to me. But as long as we're enjoying the books we read, that's all that matters

I'm a slow reader compared to others, but I'm okay with it. Quality over quantity :) Totally agree with audiobooks - can't focus on them while in the car or doing other things. Great video, thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

I feel like we're very similar readers then! Definitely quality over quantity!!

I used to love reading fiction books in high school. I would read all the time, at school, at home, during holidays. I even wanted to become a writer. After a while, I realized I am a slow reader and that there are people who can read the amount I read in one week in just one day. Eventually, I quit reading fiction because whenever I tried, I felt worthless that I couldn't enjoy the book. Reading became a stressful, tasteless activity for me, so I quit altogether. Since then, I haven't read even a single fiction book (for 7-8 years). I have only read non-fiction books like philosophy, sociology, and art history, etc. Recently, I tried very hard to read fiction again, but after a while, all those bad memories from high school came flooding back. I remembered I'm a slow reader. I can't focus on a book just like in high school. Now, I'll probably not read fiction again. I don't want to demotivate anybody. I just wanted to share my experience. I wish I were as carefree as the rest of the slow readers.

Yeah it's hard... I used to have very similar feelings, it's important to try and think about the positive memories of reading and focus on those. At the end of the day it's about that and only that, the enjoyment we get out of it. There is people who will buy a game and finish it in 15 hours and be perfectly happy with that bc they experienced the story, then there is people who will want to complete every single aspect of the game and spend 80 hours on the same game. In that time the other person may have finished 3 other games, but both are having fun, so we shouldnt compare the numbers. Same goes for reading. But i do understand it's hard to just not think about it. Hope you find the joy of reading fiction again at some point!

Interesting tip! I tried it once but it didn’t really work for me, though it made me aware of where my brain needed me to pause and think over what I’ve just read. I call these digestion pauses haha I feel like I’m an average-speed reader, but being on booktube and seeing so many people read so fast it definitely made me question whether my reading “pace” is normal.

Yeah it's the comparing to others that got me too, i know i shouldnt do it but i can't help it. Im glad the audiobooks help me read faster tho

I read 100+ books a year but even though I read a lot I'm not a fast reader. I read about 15-30 pages in an hour. I wish I was faster but at the same time I want to feel the atmosphere and remember what I've read. So skimming/ reading fast is not for me. I don't want to read just to impress people either. 😊

It depends on the book for me, if it has a lot of cliff hangers and suspenseful moments I usually speed up, whereas if a book is very descriptive of things I find that I'll gradually start reading slower

I have that too, but i think even on the exfiting parts, i will still be considerably slower than most xD im still enjoying it tho, which is what matters the most

I am a slow reader too especially if I have a busy week. As long as you enjoy what you read that is alo that matters. If I am enjoying a book I sometimes read slower because I like the book and the world. Dont worry about others and pressure just enjoy what you do. Sometime I read a short story or a magazine to feel I i have read more. I love audio while cleaning but can sometimes zone out lol take care ❤

I wish I could remember which BookTuber it was, but someone made a video about how listening to audio books is a skill and how you can improve it over time. Maybe, eventually, you can get to where you can multitask while listening, if that's what you want to do. Audio books help me by forcing me to continue listening to the story, when I might stop reading a physical book for a bit. I've gotten to where I can cook and clean and do mostly "thoughtless" tasks while listening, but I don't try to drive and listen.

I'll look into that! It would be so helpfull if i could listen to audiobooks while doing something else too

I’m a very slow reader generally. 😅it’s kinda strange cause it feels like riding a bike I’ll start off super slow but then I’ll get a little faster as I keep reading. Not much but a little bit. Then when I stop reading and go back I start over again. Same as some others have said if I read too fast then I don’t fully take in the information. I try not to feel bad about it but it’s hard sometimes when I see how others can just zoom through books.
