A full video showcasing ALL shortcuts (after hours of experimentation and exploration) is coming out on the 13th at 12pm EST! Excited to show you guys the possibilities
I’m a platinum 2 now and I don’t get how scoring works so far. For Plat 1 to plat 2 race I came first and only got 8 points. Like you many first places but never more than 10 points.
I don't know why noone is talking about the lack of momentum on the cars. It feels particularly uncanny when you can simply press a button and change direction instead of fighting the initial momentum. I went in expecting Trackmania ngl.
tbh, rocket league itself has no drift/momentum stuff at all either. so I'm not super surprised. the whole concept of rocket league and therefore what was to be expected of that game was kind of arcade racing in some variant anyway.
Every collision feels like a pinball bumper. I think it should be snappy to a degree but right now it's a lot. Manual drift option would be amazing too
Collisions are kind f'd up because of how UE5 manages physics I agree they shoud code something to adjust that. I don't undertand what you mean with "manual drift option".
@@elbardo5778 the rocket drift is different. I'd like for the car to not drift unless I press (or I'm holding) a button. Basically just like Rocket League where the turn radius caps out unless you hit power slide. The rocket drift seems like it jumps straight to being nearly the sharpest drift possible instantly
One thing to note is that slipstreams do exist so you don't want to be sitting in first for the majority of the race, since you can get caught at the end if you're not far ahead enough. You can notice it in the video at around 10:42. Once more time passes, I think this will be a very important aspect of the races.
The flow feels really good, but as a Trackmania player I'd like to see more surfaces, like you mentioned an icy themed map with slippery surfaces, and maybe similar effect blocks; like a "reactor down" that glues you to ! surface for some crazy lines
Reactor dwn would be useless as you already stick to surfaces, but there should definetly be some ice slideing, even on battle royale (used to be but it isnt on ch5 i think)
3:40 I was that guy in a race once. Very confusing because you start at that point and getting a good boost will just slam you into other cars and the wall.
The drifting has something really unsatisfying about it. I'm so used to seeing the Mario Kart drift mechanic where you can enter a turn in drift and still be able to drift the whole thing. It becomes a skill of chaining your turns together. This one, the fact that you have to end your drift so early feels so weird. Then again, I haven't tried it myself so idk. Maybe it's just how you drive lol
You can hold longer drifts but Leth cancels his early too often because its better to get small boost amounts, but certain maps he needs to hold the long ones and fails to do so
a big tip i noticed is that you should minimize jumps and flights in the game cause they can slow you down, sometimes slowing down a lot in some cases certain jumps that look like they need a jump dont need to, cause if you just fall off, you retain the same speed whereas with losing speed with jumping.
another thing i learnt recently is that, when you do mini drifts, you can cancel them out by rocket sliding the other direction, like how leth said this is huge in terms of getting tiny boosts in a straightaway and even dodging bumps on the sides of the track due to it being better to end the drift early than to bump into the side and lose speed
7:27 After hearing what you said beforehand with wanting creative freedom in what routes the players can take and whatnot, I feel that, if you can manage to balance every possible route out, your tracks would probably be very fun to play on.
The only I problem I have is player collisions are very clunky. The amount of times I have gotten spun out with no way to prevent it really is ridiculous. Also there's a glitch that prevents your car from turning around once spun out which basically secures you last unless you kys to reset facing forward.
I hope this turns into a sort of scenario like CTGP in mariokart where people truly break what was thought possible with every custom map. I hope over the next few years the custom maps turn into something crazy. Eventually I'd love to see a cool split in game mode selection where you can do things like "featured custom track" rotations or you can stick to perfecting the regular tracks. I'm hopeful for this game, especially with custom track integration
I got to Platinum 1 already, and I want to share some tips: - Very short drifts often slow you down and boost meter gains it's not high enough to compensate.. - You can change the direction of a drift by power drifting once or twice in the opossite direction WITHOUT ending the drift and activating the drifting boost. This is VERY useful on drifting tracks as making a BIG drift gives you a lot of boost meter and sometimes ending the fist drift makes the second corner harder due too the speed boost. - Right now as of 12/11/23 I gain 10% (Or 10 MMR) for finishing first in PLAT 1.
Personally I started to enjoy the drift mechanic the more i play with it. On the surface level it feels autopilot, but there's plenty of nuance especially as you get to the more advanced tracks. You still have to feather the analog stick to make a precise angle on some turns, and you still have to find the proper entry point into the curve. Plus, some tracks like Outpost reward you for feathering the accelerator to avoid drifting into the red zones on the side of the road, cutting your speed. Sidewinder and Anaconda require you to change drift direction with rocket drift, which lets you keep building the boost you were already building up without having to break the drift. That's an easy way to get a max drift boost, and then stack a turbo on top of it and you just go BLINDINGLY fast. Super satisfying imo EDIT: Because several comments have been posting their ranks, might as well. As of this comment Diamond I, 84%
Love that ur happy with it. After 20k hours in rocket league without ever hitting gc im finally so proud n happy to say im #1 in OCE and in top 100 on rocket racing leaderboards.
@@ErnieZeeRL has been out for 7,8 years? Some of us are OGs and were dedicated to the grind, there are CoD players who have well over that, dont grind ranked and are in ESports orgs just for clips. To each their own.
Leth idk if this is faster but at 5:40 If u drive above the second tube and then use ur boost u can fly and hover and cut that whole corner. I did that and i think its faster. I am not so sure tho
Like as u said i think Its better if on the First lap u drift normally to get that 2 whole boosts and then on the second lap it might be a good idea to try what i said earlier
what i find also funny is sometimes you can drive forward before the round even begins and so when you drive when the game does finally start the light countdown you'll start driving from where you drove towards. which is very unfair but hilarious
As good as Fortnite and Rocket League can be at times, Rocket Racing is neither of those games nor as complex and well thought out, especially because it's in Fortnite. Am I excited for the future of this mode? Absolutely. And as much as I want Rocket League to keep getting support and content, I also hope this mode gets updates - even the most basic ones like being able to spectate your friend. As for maps, map making, and tournaments; I would love to help and be a part of all that! I've watched a ton of your vids playing with your friends and I've always wanted to be a part of it. Keep up with the great content and amazing ideas for your videos. (Secretly missing another crab champions vid but that's for Leth Two).
you get a boost coming out of longer charged drifts. you can actually chain drift from one side to the next without interrupting the charge on those long straightaways. its a fine tuned skill i still havent nailed, but im not seeing anyone else do it.
You're one of the rare youtuber who understand the game purpose. This has potential. Give their time and they gonna evolve the game like they did for Super Acrobatic Battle Cars :v
My biggest gripe against the game is for some reason I ALWAYS start in 10-12th position (usually 12th) making it really hard to get that early lead and deal w less cars early on
Leth in first vid: "I'm not too sure about this..." Leth next video "So it's been a few days... I can see the potential...", over gameplay of him showcasing absolute mastery! You, sir, are built different!
Rocket racing has definitely been very fun so far and I’ve found myself not being able to stop grinding ranks until I’ve made it to the top. I’m really glad that you are going to try and continue making content on this and I hope that epic wants to try and take rocket racing to another level. I’ll be looking out for if you try and do a tournament.
I found drifting through speedpads especially multiples can boost one higher than boost can. Often get 1,100 kmh on tracks with 2 or 3 pads. You have to ket let go of drift though to get the small speed boosts from the drift or you'll slow yourself down. Quite risky but basically a free boost on tracks with pads in close succession.
Hey Leth! I'm happy to see you give this game a shot again. I feel like it's being shot down unfairly way too early. Lots of criticism is definitely warranted, but I think there's some real interesting ideas and potential with this game, and I'm eager to see what comes of it in the future if it survives. If you do start doing custom maps (when that becomes available) would you be interested in hosting viewer tourneys in them? I'd love to be apart of that.
The criticism mainly comes from the fact the it doesn't have anything rocket league about it, besides the same cars. And apparently this is the reason the removed trading and didn't give RL updates. Game is pretty good but it doesn't do nearly anything unique enough for people to specifically play this game if they aren't into rl or fortnite. Great arcade racers already exist.
@@zwxyer Those are some good points. Though the removal of trading was inevitable as it's against Epic's policies anyway. It's just terribly timed with Rocket Racing's release.
My frustration is unparalleled. First, Epic games takes away player to player trading in rocket league, and now they give us a crappy racing game. Not cool Epic Games.
I honestly its too early to judge the game really harshly, but right now I think it has a ton of potential and if they changed a few things it would be truly awesome
This is gonna be just like when psyonix released rocket labs, everyone was hating on it because they were trash but now they're saying y didn't they release it sooner
Getting to gold was a grind. With tracks not unlocking until higher ranks, you aren’t playing the best tracks until you slog through the simple ones with bots.
Im D1, close to D2. Аnd i think it is not always good to go in the first place, it is better to be in 3-4 places to take the slipstream and save 2-3 turbo at the end. BUT you can be knocked out when turning in a variety of amazing ways...
Cyclone was the other car that you couldn’t name. The current car bodies in the game as of now are: octane, cyclone, jager, Lamborghini huracan and diesel
Just thought I would let you know if you double drift you can gain a lot more turbo charged with minimal loss of speed especially in tighter corners to not hit the wall as well.
You can re-input the powerslide just by tapping the same button after an initial delay from tapping it the first time. You get an even sharper angle so it makes sharp turns better (the second curve after the starting line leading up to a short climb in the Outpost track is a good example). Also, you can hold the drift button to go straight into a harsh angle and sometimes negate the need for double activation, it takes a little practice but it is amazing once you get the hang of it. After getting use to the drifting mechanic then a track like Anaconda is super fun once you learn the lines
I got to platinum 2 a couple days ago, but the percentages slowed down so much that i decided to take a break until more player rank up. The grind just doesnt seem worth it at the moment when it will be so much easier in a month
leth if you didn’t know, you can press drift the opposite direction after a drift to even out your car very quickly. this is super useful to take a quicker line or even time exactly when you want your drift boost to activate
I find the cars super 'sticky' went interacting with each other. you lose so much control and speed if you are close to someone else. also the gravity is sticky. sometime I'll stick to a side wall when im not even close just because im 0.1 cm of the ground and holding in that direction
To be real and completely unbiased, i am not a fan. I played it several times solo, played it with a party, and your first video downplaying this mode was spot on. Mechanic wise it’s basically a Asphalt 9 console port with the rocket league jump / dodge and boost mechanic ( now called turbo for some reason? )..it grabs most of its elements, some gameplay, and most its garage items yet has no real ties to rocket league. Their ranking system is cooked and yes i know its still fresh and will probably be more precise further down the line but as a rocket league main for the past 7+ years this one just is not really doing it for me. I’d personally prefer Asphalt 9 or even the classic Burnout series. Gotta give it up to Epic for creating something interesting, but now my concern still resides with the future of Rocket League, i mean their newest season and their rocket pass is HORRENDOUS compared to the last 2 seasons.
This game is not what i wanted as Rocket league racing game, because it looks like mobile racing game. I wanted all of rocket league physics and mechanics except powerslide, so your car would always slide, and when you press certain button you can turn better but in cost of slowing down littlebit. What we've got is just usual racing game, i wanted Rocket League Racing
So the 40 dollar car gives you all the colors what i meam titanium white pink black etc etc so idk if those pass to rocket league eitherway dirty move by epic lol
So how are they hopping the cars and spinning the wheels before takeoff? Is that a playstation, xbox or switch ability? I don't see anywhere to do that on pc.
I just wanna be able to see stats of how many races I've done and placement in those races.... Also what world records are on the maps and my best times
I appreciate that your trying to show us what is possible in this game. I do think it would be cooler if we had to push a button to drift. I don't like how it's automatic. But to be fair they are asking the players with a certain amount of hours so I guess the masses will decide on that.
Thee collisions are sketchy AF in the game, however, I have never seen the octane I use kick up like yours did a couple of times. It appears to be the result of using a car so low to the ground and the hitbox clipping on bumps. Would be a genuine disadvantage to the lowriding cars if that's the case
Id say try to do a private match with people with what you think is the hardest maps currently figure out where the skill lies with people and then have the top few people help test your custom maps and later run viewer races on those
Yo! So excited to see you do custom tracks. How do I sign up to test them out? Is that more of a Patreon thing or a Discord thing? I'm going to start making maps too (still waiting for my computer to come in after a black friday deal). I'm just waiting for them to allow us to have full rocket league cars in our own fortnite islands so that we can make really fun game modes (I've never gotten into coding past just making some basic edits to already established code).
I feel like its not very fair like someone who start in first pleace and someone on last pleace. I know thats how it it in racing games but here you can lost to much speed at the beginning.
I’m a bit late, but I’m in Diamond II, and I can gain only 3% for a 1st place. They really need to buff the percentage progression to make it feel more rewarding.
