Today I take a look at my progress building my first vanguard box in Warhammer Age of Sigmar. I offer advice based on my successes and mistakes so far.
From the Age of Sigmar Website:
Warhammer Age of Sigmar is more than a game - it’s a hobby. Build armies of plastic warriors, paint your models, and take them to the tabletop to play fast-paced games and tell your own stories within the Mortal Realms.

So, I think with the matter of priming your models, you mentioned that your revised scheme would be better with a black undercoat. I'd recommend sticking with the grey personally. I've found in my experience that Gold is usually a fairly transparent paint. Even the darker colored golds I've found can sometimes struggle with coverage over darker undercoats but cover a bit better over brighter colors. Most importantly, contrast paint doesn't work well over a black undercoat. Trust me, you can't take advantage of Contrast Paint the way you're using it for the cloth without at least a grey undercoat. I've tried Contrast over black, and it takes *SO* many coats to make sure it covers enough to fully hide the black underneath. If you want some *really* expert advice on Contrast Paint specifically, I reccomend the channel Warhipster, he does great work. Also, good on you for choosing not to do white armor. You're a smarter man than I for choosing the path of less suffering.

Thanks KamenRiderGreed. Since filming this video I came to the same realization that Grey is better for my Lumineth specifically with the use of contrasts and gold as you said. And yeah, no thank you for white armour! I was just starting out looking at all these lumineth tutorials and there was no way I could do what they were doing without more experience. xD

That's crazy, I've been following you for WotV for years and I just started getting in to miniatures this year as well. I was playing Flesh and Blood TCG, but I moved away from my local game store and we had a baby. I already wasn't able to play a ton, but after the baby was born, I basically played FaB twice in 9 months. I didn't really intend it this way, but since I wasn't going out and playing with other people, I drifted towards looking into stuff I could do on my own. I got into Battletech since I have the video game and played the OG Mechwarrior games when I was a kid. I started collecting the Battletech miniatures, but like 90% of painting tutorials on youtube are about Warhammer. I always thought Space Marines looked goofy, but I came to like the Grey Knights. I don't know why, but you take a goofy space marine and put a different helmet on him and suddenly he looks cool for some reason. Then I saw the Sylvaneth from AoS and I was immediately hooked. I've always liked druids and the nature aesthetic. The tree look with the magical elven spirits coming out of them is so cool to me. The other factions have one or two models that are kinda cool, but every Sylvaneth model looks fantastic to me. The only other faction that even comes close is the Slaves to Darkness. I like the classic black evil armor guys a lot. The Chaos Warriors, Chosen, Knights, Varanguards, etc. and the hero units that are the same. I'm almost done getting my paints together to start painting my Battletech mechs. I already have those models and really like them. They are also mostly big chunky flat panels that should be easy to paint. Plus, I like the game system better and you only need like $20 worth of models to field an "army" of 4 mechs. Warhammer models have an absolute ton of details, which is kind of intimidating. But if I do OK painting mechs, I'm planning to start buying Warhammer models and slowly painting them. While part of the fun for me is finding out the best discounts, how to build an army the cheapest way possible, and theorycrafting about lists, I'm not actually interested in playing 40k or AoS. The building and painting is the fun part for me- especially since I don't need another person to do it with me. The stats and rules of the game are just an extra layer of what makes a model cool. I might get a vanguard box and work on it over the course of a 6 months or a year. But I think more likely is that I'll get a $50 box of Kurnoth Hunters and work on it for a few months, then get a box of Grey Knights Terminators and work on those for a few months. The way I'll buy my models will probably be building towards 1000 point lists for each of the three armies, but that's just for fun. I have no intention of actually completing an army unless it's over the course of several years. I did a free painting lesson at a local Games Workshop shop as well. I was expecting to just spend an hour or so to get started, but I was there for 2 hours and didn't want to leave! I'm not an artistic person at all, so I wasn't sure if painting would be enjoyable. But I'm happy to report that I had a great time! If you have a GW store near you, I highly recommend it. It's better if you call ahead of time to schedule it, but it's not required.

Hey Gamma! Good to see you over on this channel. That's so cool you're also getting into the hobby. I tried Flesh and Blood out as well and really enjoyed it/the concept but there wasn't much of a local scene for me. Congrats on your baby btw! I totally agree that this hobby in general (whatever game you play) is perfect for solo and groups since building/painting are very enjoyable and you can go at your own pace. Sounds like you have a really healthy approach to the hobby to which is great. I looked up my local Games Workshop store and I'm planning on checking them out next weekend if I can find the time. I want to get help trying the game but also maybe some painting tips. I've never been a very artistic person but painting mini's is much more approachable than I imagined for sure. Glad we've both discovered this hobby!

Painting is fun! and you can apply your new painting skills to gunpla! I am currently experimenting with object source lighting effects!

That is awesome! I'm not quite at that stage yet, but I did work on doing some highlights for the first time the other day. I've never painted gunpla before but now I'm excited to try. Do you just prime over the original model before starting?

I also got into the hobby this past summer and can definitely empathize with hitting some early snags in building and a bit of learn-as-you-go painting. Your stuff looks really good though! Really enjoying the videos so please keep sharing your hobby journey.

Hello Ceehill! Really appreciate the comment, that is very cool to hear we are tackling his hobby as new players at the same time. Keep me updated on your progress! What are you playing?

My foray into Warhammer started with 40K memes. I am just getting into Age of Sigmar... Chaos all the way.

Welcome in bud! Chaos looks very cool indeed, but I always like playing as the "good" guy. Chaos can play both 40k and AoS right?

Ever since since high school, which was like a million years ago, I've wanted to at least buy an Eldar figure or two but the prices scare me haha. Is it cheaper to just buy a boxed set?
@mysidia91
@mysidia91 10 месяцев назад
Yeah overall if you price the different units out separately its always better to buy a starter set/combat patrol/vanguard. But if you are buying used on ebay there are possibilities for cheaper units/models
