Appreciate the vid and perspective. Feels good knowing other people go through similar experiences. I had crazy burn out last summer and it really got to me. I was so confused why I was waking up and feeling like I no longer wanted to do anything video related. It was a real struggle pushing through and having the strength to go to work. I took a few weeks off and intentionally slowed down my workflow. Learned alot afterwards and I try to do a better job of catching myself before I get to that point again. Creative lifestyle can be rough out there. Take care of yourself!

Yeah, I think sometimes we feel guilty like we’re the only ones who feel this way. Everyone is always creating and doing things while we feel tired and burnt out. Often times it’s not true and others are tired as well. Mental health is definitely worth taking breaks for.

@@lensofjared 100%, creating from a place of rest is important. But also we got bills to pay so it def is a grind. Social media can be smoke & mirrors too.

Really appreciated this video Jared, it hit me close to home! I usually feel like I could always be doing more but its good to check yourself sometimes and remind yourself that you are already doing enough. Great video and maybe you could do something in this style more often. I felt like I was visiting a therapist lmao.

Haha I enjoyed doing it. It’s nice to kind of vomit my emotions into a video. I’ll try to make more

I just stepped away from my editing setup to look for inspiration from RU-vid before going to touch grass and this is the video that just came up on my home page... subbed... Thanks for being randomly relatable 🙌🏾

Documenting the burn out can be as important as the success. It gives a truer picture of the journey. Cheers Jared

This! It’s hard to tell a story when you’re in a slump - this was a super cathartic video. Good work mate.

I've gone through this and gained some deep insight into it. The reason why you feel burnout is because the amount of work you're inputting isn't matching up with the output that you expect. You know this deep down, it's just a matter of time before you realise it. Also human beings are actually capable of working a lot but only short a short period of time. So make sure that you try to schedule you work in a way where you have 8-12 weeks off which is a resting period. The great thing about videography is that if you start planning the future and look at the long game then you can absolutely do it

Man this is perfectly thought out. It definitely sucks sometimes to put tons of effort into something with “nothing” in return.

It's tough sometimes. Being a freelancer is such a rewarding struggle. We have the opportunity to create and craft our own schedules, but at the same time when work comes in we feel we can't say no. I worked from January until the middle of April every single day without a day off. My burn out was so real. I am just now, starting to feel that fire to get back on set and get back after things again. Great video as always man. Keep pushing and take time for yourself.

yeah man, its a "grind" and at times we dont know how to say no in fear of not getting anymore work. Thankfully i hit a really nice patch of esports work so I am able to take some time off in between.

Take care of yourself Jared. Mental health is so important. "The grind" can feel like you are actually going through a grinder to squeeze every bit of creativity you can out of yourself. Try to schedule some breaks in if you can. I see that David Morefield just goes skating, snorkeling, surfing, etc to get a break.

THIS. Im actually looking for a new hobby to occupy my mind and keep me creative but, in a different form.

Its a tough thing to get out of, I definitely recommend if you haven't already, looking up the clinically defined causes of burnout. It may help to identify those things in your current work or life, then you can take incremental steps over time to reduce or remove those situations as best as possible. I used to think it was all to do with working too much, but that is really only a very small part of it. You will be able to get past it now that you know it ✌

Definitely agree. i have actually taken a huge step back from social media and taken up reading. Its been a huge help for me to disconnect from the creative brain always being on.

Just went through this big time after doing a 48 film festival challenge… I think it was a combination of lots of things… but mostly going so hard for 48 and then seeing that I didn’t make a Scorsese Epic in that time really brought me back to reality. 😂 Also trying to be more appreciative, appreciate the positive take. 👊🏻

Taking a break every once in a while helps, doing something out of your normal routine that refuels.

I will call that pre-burn out...if you were really burnt out, you would not even have made this VIDEO and all the things you showed that you made in this video.
