One of my favorite quote (I use it this very day and i'm gonna use until I die) "Any man who falls behind is left behind." Becouse everyone understand it, even the people who don't see the movies And you can say to literaly everything Example: A coworker bring cookies and we eat all of it, but somebody who came a little late didn't get any, and you just like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "Any man who falls behind is left behind." And he can't be mad becouse it's his/her fault I know, it's a little bit harsh but it's just an example 😁

One of my favorite parts of this movie is how the characters are smart. So many characters are said to be smart, but act stupid. Jack, Barbossa, Norrington, and Elizabeth are actually, genuinely smart, and you see it in the dialogue. There's so many things that a lesser writer would have left out.
@concettasorvillo3719
@concettasorvillo3719 3 года назад
I thought the same exact thing a lot o time. There is great writing here and th characters are plain smart and coherent to themselves. It's not so easy. I like especially Elizabeth because, ad a sole woman protagoinst, in a pirate story, it would be very easy to exagerate her "power" or her "damsel in distress" status. She is a bit of this and that without exaggerating and without dismiss her and her intelligence.
@alphamorion4314
@alphamorion4314 2 года назад
Adding to that, since they're all smart it really shows not only in the dialogue, but their actions. I swear that the "interplay" between Jack, Will and Elizabeth throughout the trilogy is amazing, is like all three of them are the 'main character' in their own way by the decisions they make and therefore driving the plot forward. Character driven plot at its absolute best.

@@yehudisfriedman8459 throughout history the fox has been lauded in myths and folk tales as being a crafty animal. If you've ever been tracking one you'd know how resourceful they are at avoiding capture. They'll swim across bodies of water, climb trees, double back on their trails, and if there's a family of them they've been known to tag team each other to lead pursuers away from their kits. If you say that someone is "crazy like a fox", it means that their behavior appears to be insane or nonsensical at first glance, but there's actually something very clever and subtle to it that's working toward their interests in unexpected ways; similar to a fox on the run.

So things like pleasure, contempt, or being able to taste delicious food are gone; and you're left with stuff like misery, irritability, and an insatiablity for greed, lust, and revenge. Okay, I'm sure someone has said this already, but the "corset" thing annoys me so much. First of all, she's wearing a stay, and stays can't be tightlaced. The fabric is meant to close, unlike corsets that leave a gap in the lacing. Also, stays aren't boned like corsets, they used stitching and cording for structure. The only way she would have had trouble breathing in a stay is if it were way too small for her which that one is clearly not. I know most people wouldn't know the difference put it just seems silly to me.

@@Ikajo Invalid argument bringing nothing to the conversation. It's a fantasy movie with curses, undead and magic. But things such as time period it's set in still apply and a bit of historical authenticity wouldn't hurt. If we throw out logic, let's throw out ALL the logic and remove gravity, add wizards, have aliens come down from the skies, enable teleporting and cloning. It would still be a movie with curses, undead and magic, so nothing changes, right?

About Elizabeth's and Norrington's ages, when the movie came out in 2003, Kiera Knightley (who plays Elizabeth) and Jack Davenport (who plays Norrington) were 18 and 30 years old, respectively. Lucinda Dryzek (who plays Young Elizabeth) was 12. Since 10 years passed between the beginning and when most of the movie takes place, I think it would be safe to put Elizabeth's age somewhere around 20 (plus or minus a couple of years). If we assume Norrington is the same age as his actor (around 30), he would have been around 20 near the beginning, old enough to be a leftenant. This means that Norrington is around 10 years older than Elizabeth, strange nowadays but I thing relatively normal back in the 1700's when the movie takes place.

From the first moment you see him, Jack’s character is perfectly clear. He enters the harbor on a sinking ship that’s really just a sailboat. But then you have to ask. HOW did he manage to make it there on that thing?

For what happened to Mr Gibbs to make him a pirate, it's actually pretty simple. He made the mistake of joining the British Navy. Most pirates were sailors and privateers, soldiers for the crown in all respects, who turned to piracy when Britain made peace with Spain and abandoned many of their men to return to poverty. Rich men rarely became common sailors, and they rarely got rich off of military service as well. So they took their training and experience and decided to plunder for themselves instead of the crown.

I adore this movie and its soundtrack. I remember when it was in theaters, I went multiple times and one of my sorority sisters went so often that by the time I went with her to the dollar theater, she was able to recite the dialogue of the whole movie before the characters, lol. I'm so glad you reacted to this!

Norrington is only 6ish years older than Elizabeth in the movies. He's was 20 at the very beginning of the movie, when Elizabeth was 14. So, when he proposed to her, he was probably just about to turn 27, she was 20. Not the worst age gap I've ever heard of nowadays, let alone 300 years ago.

Elizabeth is I think around 18. And not that it's right but in the 1700's to 1800's when this will be set it was definitely not uncommon (or even a bad thing) for women her age to be married to older guys. In fact in a way she's lucky her father allowed her to have a choice in the matter at all, and the "reccomended" option of Norrington is actually a decent person who genuinely likes her, not just marrying for status.

Im not completely sure but I think Norrington is 7 years older than Elizabeth. Also Johny Depp improvised a lot of scenes, for example when he points the gun at Elizabeth (unaware).

Oh, but which chronicles of Narnia? There is a BBC version that came out in the late 80s. I grew up watching it, and because it's a miniseries it's longer and has more info. Also so glad you watched the end credit scene, because with the pirates movies, sometimes you just get confused when stuff pops up later, like undead monkey jack.....

This was one of those movies that by all accounts, no one thought was going to work, but became an instant classic. I think the 2nd and 3rd movies are pretty good, 4 is ok, but 5 can rot in hell as far as I care. The thing that does it for me, I don't think Johnny Depp was trying all that much in the last two films. The subtlety of his expressions, his mannerisms, his delivery in this one are pitch perfect; he was acting his heart out.

So the reason why Captain Jack Sparrow runs the way he does is because he's so used to the swaying of a ship on sea that he sways and is off-balance when on land. You can actually notice that he walks normally when on a ship at sea. Also, although I've never seen confirmation and thus it is argued, at the end, it is believed Captain Jack Sparrow falls off the fort the way he does on purpose because no one usually survives a fall from that end. But if you remember, Captain Jack Sparrow (yes, I have to say it fully everytime xP) saved Elizabeth from falling from that same place, so it's believed that Captain Jack Sparrow knew that falling from there was the only (known) way to survive that fall.

How many people now? By today’s standards, Mr Norrington marrying Elizabeth is iffy, but keep in MIND. This was during a time of the pirate age, the Spanish Armada, where siring children was considered important. Childbirth didn’t always result in the child coming out... alive, and with both a limited gap to foster children and stuff like vaccines and modern medicine aren’t a thing yet. If anything, Elizabeth is LUCKY that she wasn’t immediately married to Norrington at the age of 14-15 and is instead a woman legal by our standards.

At that period of time. It was common for a family to marry their 18 year old daughter, or younger to men in their 30s. Different time. Different customs.

“Why would you use Will’s last name?” You know the way grade school kids doodle their first name with their crush’s last name and you know pretend they’re married. Girl has been head over heels in love with him since they were kids, and this is probably the only way she thought she’d have his last name.

I looked it up after rewatching the trilogy, Norington is 8 years older than Elizibeth, still a little odd, but not for the time period, especially among royals.
