Pretty sure your air bounces come from your pull through. You absolutely do not want to have your front leg locked out the entire time. It is bent in an athletic position and then straightened using the opposing force of the ground going up into the throw. You’re asking for a knee injury practicing that. Your reach back is just a bit high to low. In a perfect world you either pull through straight or from a little low to high while keeping good nose angle.
Could not agree more with this comment. Number one thing I'd recommend would be to exaggerate a much lower reach back in form work since he's so comfortable with his current swing and it's super tough to break that. I'm working through the exact same problem.
Re: bag too big. I saw putting a Tupperware mid disc compartment. Keeps discs upright. Dry storage space if needed. I enjoyed your European trip. Your wife is cool.
I don't think your brace is entirely the problem. You should join the Disc Golf Nation server and get some coach input on your throws! Please keep up the practice rounds, it's relatable!
Great content brother. Your channel was recommended by the YT algorithm. I’ve been watching a lot of your older videos and enjoy seeing the Russellville courses. I learned to play there back in 2009 when I was in college. Keep it up!
One of the best Disc Golf videos I have seen in awhile. Love when people try new things with form, disc, content, whatever it is, it is essential for growth! Good luck!!
Go watch Overthrow's video on brace, so you don't blow your knee out. For me it works automatically if I just think of it like I'm pressing the ball of my right foot (RHBH) into the ground. Also; extending your last step more can help!
PSA to anyone struggling with Discmania’s C-Line plastic, I’m finding that the color matters. It’s different on some of the molds, such as the FD. I haven’t tried every color, but I found that green was the most stable and purple being the straightest
Everybody is recommending good fairways cuz there's a lot great ones. Since you're a Prodigy boi try the Fx-3. It's PD lite for me but at your power it should be a piss missile.
Have you tried using the Axiom Crave, Axiom Insanity, or the Discraft Passion for that straight fairway shot? The Crave is my go to. But, with your arm speed you can probably get the Insanity or Passion further.
@@seymourglass26 I have thrown a Crave in neutron plastic that flew like the -1,1 turn and fade, but mainly I throw them in glow plastic and fission plastic, both of which fly more like 0,0.5 or 0,1 for me at first, and then 0,0 when beat in for a month or two. The Insanity and Passion look like longer Craves, but I can see how they could be "flippy"ish depending on your arm speed.
I don't think you want to have your knee locked out like that from the get. That's a recipe for a pretty serious injury. You want to push the knee back as you brace. The reason you haven't done that is likely that your lead foot isn't getting out in front of you enough and so you're on top of the brace a little too much.
Yeah don't lock your knee out. I think his airbounces are caused by a combo of dipping slightly mid swing and some reverse pivoting. His follow through looks stunted. I think he might want to focus on swinging outward as well as ripping across.
350-400 fw driver; Explorer, Musket, Saint Pro, Crave, Lots. Or a beat up PD, like Niklas Anttila. I think you throw maybe just a tad shorter than he does, so maybe check out his in-the-bag and see what he's got.
Try the FD1s instead of the FD - especially the Sky Walker and the Rage stone versions, are just sooo nice . They start like a C-line FD, but pretty quickly becomes straight but without the risc of becommung flippy :)
For the straight to a little OS fairway you could try the Sky Walker FD1 or Rage Stone (Lux vapor FD1), could probably also be the stock S-line FD1, i haven't tried those myself but it should be pretty close to the Sky walker AFAIK.
For the bag problem; Get some stuffsacks from any outdoor company (should be like $10 for 5 or something). Put towels and whatnot in the stuffsack. Put the stuffsack in the main compartment of your discgolf bag. Problem solved. It'll take the space of anywhere from two to six discs, depending on how full you shove it.
I bag a Servo for my workhorse straight fairway. I also had a similar issue with Proxy v Envy, they're too similar, specially in Electron firm. Also, you're very upright in your throw.
Yo Nate you should try the Brave from latitude 64, that thing is awesome. Look at Icebergs review. On another note, great to see you're working on your form, it's hard to change. If you have any time look in to Jaani from DG Spin Doctor. He has a chill way to think DG :-) As always love your content
So in answer to your questions .... A straight fairway... Depending on the distance Crave, STD, CD1 cline, rain stone, Saint pro, night stone.... As far as the air bounce goes if you noticed your better throws go high follow through or swing through lower minimally to keep the nose down. And then let the regular follow through happen at the end... Keep the knee bent where it is comfortable ... If you keep it straight you will injure it
You need 3rd tool FD2s. They made c-line and royal rage 1 glows. They will remove the instincts also. Also, you're gonna want swirly dd3s over the sline.
Sometimes you may find it helpful to force your body to throw completely differently. Like, totally different. Not even how you want your form to look, but so different that you kind of "break through" your muscle memory. Being able to see any kind of change from your normal form can be really encouraging along the process. You've got this!
Tbh, you naturally have an air bounce throw. Your back swing goes up. Obviously it's not hurting you too bad because you are able to get the leading edge down enough. Just make sure you are not rolling your thumb through the disc, pulling the nose up.
If you do decide that you need to straighten out your brace leg, try and think of ending up with your right hip higher than your left hip. This will make sure that your leg gets straightened out without locking your knee. About the in-line putt, Gannon throws his elbow from the side if his body more than what you're doing, which looks more like Calvin's putt.
Ya, definitely don’t want to throw 100% of your weight onto a straight leg. Think a long controlled slide with your front leg where when your release your weight off the back leg you push down in the back leg which forces your hips to rotate
The athena has been my go-to straight fairway for a while now! Get it in a few different plastics and you'll have three different flights from the same mold.
Your posture is too upright and not nose over toes. When you're nose over toes your weight feels like it's in front of knee. When you stand upright like you it's impossible to not bend the knee because the weight is behind it
Its ok to have the bend in the knee. but im seeing you swoping with the arm when your pulling through try starting it on line with just above your peck muscle or just above the nipples on the pull threw thats where i see most pros have theres at
SkyWalker aka Horizon FD1 is one of the best fairway drivers. Really good torque resistance, good amount of glide and mild fade. Nothing like C-line FD1's. Also those EO2023 metal flake FD's are money. Best version of FD from the current line up. A bit flatter than S-line or C-line and flightwise between those two. Not too flippy and not too beefy.
Straight Fairway with no finish, looking forward to what disc you land on. You know, OT does form reviews for $15... he coaches other pro's so I'd think he'd be able to give you 2-3 things. I'd give you $5 if you want it for a discount. Maybe he'd do a collab, I dunno. I'm a certified Calvin fanboy. I don't think I'm qualified to count air bounces. I like seeing you work on form, shows that you're committed to the mission. Lookin' good 👊 ngl, missing Becky a little.
I am working on keeping from popping up and throwing nose up too. My leg is fine, but just have to remind myself to follow through downward. Try an eagle fairway.
try to time your reachback so it reaches peak when or after your foot plants. your arm is waiting for your plant, robbing you of speed, and the weight shift is contributing to your swooping motion. maybe you're pulling instead of pushing the disc? this is an extremely common misconception of backhand form. pushing may also help you feel the bracing of the plant. timing tho... plant first.
