I'M DONE: 5 of the WORST top handle bags. 

I’m handbag fatigue just like Covid fatigue. I think I finally hit the point where I have no desire to buy any more new bags. I still enjoy viddys on it though…content living vicariously through RU-vidrs

That last bit of advice is best: don't ask anyone else, get what you really want. That's a good one. I got a pre-loved Gucci my friend didn't like but I *love* it. 🥰

I personally don’t like top handles that stay upright when worn as cross body or on the shoulder. This has been really helpful Sophie. I value your opinion a great deal ❤️❤️❤️

I am confused. Who in the world, could not see immediately that a mini bag would not fit a good many mobile phones. In fact, it does not even appear to be suitable for much more than a credit card, a key/remote and lipstick. That, in my opinion, is not an issue with the bag but with the person who bought it with the expectation that it would carry the same size and amount as the medium.

Sophie, wear any new bag around the house for a couple of days before you remove the tags. Will save you having another "Jodie Bag" experience. 😊

I got my YSL college bag based on your recommendation in one of the previous videos and couldn’t be more thankful. The bag is absolutely gorgeous and super easy to wear both crossbody and top handle. Also the white top you are wearing in this video is stunning 🤩

I love my Rockstud bag. I've changed it up, taken the top handle and connected it to the chain so I can wear it very comfortably as a cross body. Mine is the denim and I never fail to receive compliments on it.

I own the Chanel Business Affinity and it's so light weight, holds my wallet, keys, makeup and my pixel XL. I'm so glad the SA showed it to me, I had no idea it existed and it's totally my favorite bag.

whether luxury or not, overconsumption is still bad... even in italy and spain leather workers are treated poorly, not to mention the environmental impact...

Yesss small business affinity is my first (and for now, my only) Chanel bag. I love it to bits! It’s brilliant, fits reasonable amount, don’t have to dig for things, can go casual and formal. I’d love to get another one in lighter colour, mine is the classic black. 💕

The mini lady dior can fit my big samsung phone (you need to put the phone horizontally), card holder, lipstick (also horizontally), hand sanitizer & earphone case comfortably, you can also put your sunglasses at the top of the flap if needed 😊 I use it all the time & I got the black satin one so it can be quite versatile. The annoying part of the lady dior is actually the charms! Oh the sound it makes everytime I move 😅 I usually use it as a shoulder bag & I put my hand deliberately in front of the charms so people don't look at me weirdly.

I absolutely love the Valentino Rockstud. If it wasn't so expensive, I would get it, no question. I don't mind the handle.

Top handle bags are my favorite. Easy to carry and it looks so elegant. I'm the weird one, in that, I can't do crossbody bags. They are so awkward for me lol. I love that Dior Saddle bag. I have loved that shape since the early 2000's.

I don't understand why anyone would spend so much on the Jodie bags from Bottega Veneta since there are so many lookalike dupes (not fakes) since the authentic bags don't have a logo or label on them anyway...? You can get the exact same look for literally 1/50th of the price. 🤯 In fact, I have even seen real leather options being sold on places like Amazon!

Sophie, thanks for pointing out the crossbody issue! That twisting happens so often and ultimately ruins a bag.

For everyday use I find a top-handle flap bag to be a nuisance. For everyday use I prefer a wristlet with a small tote or a real tote bag. For socialising, I love a small handbag or a clutch bag. I used to love shoulder bags but not now.

I have a newer Lady Dior from 2020, and they actually have two layers of leather forming the structure now. Mine hasn't gotten as much use as Sophie's, but I hope this change means that twisting won't be a problem

The problem with the Valentino, apart from the silly handle is that the design overall is just so very specific that you're limited to wearing something edgy and/or futuristic. Romantic won't cut. Florals, out of the question. It's very specific to a certain very structured style, it would go with black Japanese very stylised clothes. I would feel the the bag is wearing me rather than the other way around. It certainly is for a very limited market. Rock star indeed.

I bought the Bottega Veneta Hobo Intrecciato several years ago. I cut the labels off recently to go on holiday but boy, is it awkward to use. The quality is superb, the colour is beautiful but it is difficult to access and the interior lining is so dark, it’s hard to see what’s inside ( most of my slg’s are dark) so I had to root around to find everything. It’s a work of art but the practicality loses points for me personally. Wish I had opted for a different style now but too late!

Go ahead and sell the bags if you don't enjoy using it. The money is already a sunk cost. You may as well get something, a few hundred dollars can pay for a nice weekend getaway or a spa day.

Good to know about these. Sad to see the Dior saddle has no lining! Ghastly for a bag that price! I love the Lady Dior and if I had one, I'd carry by handle and never crossbody, so good to know what happens if you crossbody. Also a little sad about that Valentino bag- I think it's a somewhat pretty bag but for the price probably best to avoid.

This was really good. I love the medium Lady Dior, it’s such an elegant but practical bag. The reseller I use in Australia say they won’t accept Valentino bags at all because they can’t sell them. I don’t have one because I think they are phenomenally ugly, but they are rather popular on social media so that surprised me.

So agree on that dior. And when your stuff spills out, it’s getting even more annoying! LMAO. It happened to me couple of times in the car I start putting seatbelt over it 🤣

These are all so pretty its a shame they have issues. I am 100% a crossbody person, cant stand having to hold things (and shoulder bags slip right off me) but defs crossing rhe lady dior off my list now knowing it warps!! I think the LV croisette and the Chanel 19 medium are the best top handles that can also be worn crossbody.

I'm interested in hearing a little more why the silver Valentino bag does not really work for you, aside from the chain link crossbody strap being too heavy. Unfortunately, you didn't really explain further in the video as you got distracted with the Fendi bag. I am not a fan of the studs but I do own the silver Valentino you do, as well as the black crinkly leather one as the studs are the same colour as the leather and the monochromatic look is more appealing to me. It's a little edgy without being too much ands a little personality to a simple outfit. Regarding practicality, I found no trouble in getting things in and out of the bags and this style does carry the essentials I need (phone, wallet, keys, some makeup items and a foldable brush). I admit I don't use the silver one often because it is a little blingy, but I enjoy pairing it with a simple white shirt, jeans/linen trousers and some strappy silver sandals or silver Superga runners, and it works so well. I do have the same black Bottega Veneta Jodie Mini and I agree with you that although it is really cute, the zipper and the curved opening is annoying to use, which is why I use it in the cooler months for when only a phone, cardholder and keys (and maybe a lipstick) is enough. Because of its size, It's the bag I use when going to restaurants or running quick errands. However, the now rare Bottega Veneta 'Nodini' crossbody bag is one of my most used bags for daily wear because of its size, shape, the way it sits flatly on the body, the large amount of things it can hold, the beautiful intrecciato leather and suede lining, and the lack of a logo emblazoned on the bag. It's a wonderful bag where beauty, form and function meet. Alas, Bottega Veneta has replaced the 'Nodino' with the 'Loop' crossbody but it is not the same and no where near as elegant.

I am however very careful about buying bags because of the shifts in quality, I don’t dare to buy a luxury bag online, not even from Dior. I get that Valentino can't keep a style for more than a year or so resulting in them becoming worthless on the resale market, but I think that bag is beautiful. I actually have that exact one. Bought in early 2019 I think. I don't wear it a lot since it is on the dressy side, but I love it when I want a little flash.

This came at a great time as I was trying to sell a Chanel card holder and was kind of depressed at how low most consignment sites are offering so low. I thought maybe it was my timing ☹️

I’ve always loved them and their shape but always said I’d never get one because I just KNEW that the rigid handle and the fact it’s split into 2 compartments would drive me insane…….. this was until my SA brought out a special one from the stardust collection in sort of an iridescent green with mother of pearl hardware…. I now own a mini one 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ But it is to die for and fits my phone…? 😇😇😇😂

I love top handle bags, I've always had one ever since I got into Kate Spade. Now, my LV OTG PM in black mono empreint is my everyday bag. I also have another top handle Cherrywood BB, but the flap is annoying me now because its a patent/canvass combo and its stiff. Looks great but the patent flap is already showing creases after a year of use. There's just something about top handle bags. You can just grab the handle and your good to go, without the bag flapping about and spilling your stuff, and then set it down again effortlessly.

I would legit take the Valentino off your hands. Your bags are fabulous.

I always used shoulder bags for the last 20 years or so, but recently in the last year I have moved towards top handle because I noticed that shoulder bags gave me a backache. A shoulder bag that can be used cross body ( as a classic Chanel can be) can be ok but not if the bag is a medium or larger size. So here I am really loving top handle bags that have cross body straps. I like being able to hold a top handle in my hand and when I pick it up from the floor or a table. When I want to be hands feee and have the bag secure on my body when I am waking I love a cross body strap. So functionally a top handle is the best for me ergonomically. I am interested in the Lady Dior. I do not know whether to go for small or medium. The Coco handle is also a possibility. I am not in a rush to buy either of these. I know the Trendy CC is popular but I wonder if it is too thick in depth and too sporty looking. I am not sure about the metal plaque at the top although I do not think it is bad looking.

According to a Bottega SA in my state, you can try rubbing wax paper along the zipper of the mini Jodie bag to make it glide open more easily. They actually had wax paper at the boutique to prep the bag and hand to customers who purchased the mini Jodie.

As someone who doesn’t make that much money to spend on multiple bags, I find it really sad how some of those beautiful bags were not designed with more consideration for their practicality.. I really wanna find a bag that looks really beautiful but also very easy to use/carry around my day. Thank you Sophie for reviewing all the bags!❤️

I actually sold my chanel trendy even though it's a gorgeous piece to look at! I found it the most frustrating thing to use, it didnt crossbody on me, its bulky, its delicate leather, and it's made of 3tiny bags stuck together. Literally nothing fits!! I couldn't afford to just have money on the shelf! On the other hand my valentino rockstud spike bag I've been using daily, I love it so much and the lambskin is incredibly durable and I dont baby it at all! There isnt a scratch on it, not any sign of corner wear and ot completes an outfit perfectly!

Not luxury, but I just scored a small top handle LePiage original 😊😊😊for $46 at Saks. It’s soooo cute.

I’m so devastated. Sophie I should have listened. I saved and went to eBay to buy a David Yurman piece. It arrives and I take it to my jeweler to find out it’s made out of copper an CZ’s. 😢

I haven't got the Jodie but I have seen non branded dupes of it in a local shoe store in the inner western suburbs of Sydney. In fact that whole store has multiple BV dupes and everytime I think of the awful Jodie zipper.
