I’m personally gonna move out either when Im forced to or when I get my degree, get a well paying job, and have enough for a downpayment on a home. Spending money on rent is a convenience when you need a place to live quick or when you’re figuring some things out in your life. The downside is that it sets back the amount of money you can save each month for a downpayment on a home.

Why do americans make a big deal of moving out your parents. You move out when you have enough money to make a down payment on a house or if you have a great opportunity elsewhere after completing your education. It makes no sense to be paying rent elsewhere when you can sacrifice a few years while helping out your parents and also saving almost all your income.
@Rob--

Because Americans that stay home dont have the work ethic like other countries. When Americans stay home they hardly contribute, no jobs or part time. They lock themselves in their rooms, play video games, and then complain about their parents.

In America, you are made to feel as if you have not become an adult and learned to take care of yourself of you stay in your parents home. So, most who can move on do so and many of those who stay really would rather live off there parents. These are generalizations. There are some who make the decision to help themselves our while helping their parents at the same time. You have to get along well with your parents and be strong enough not to cave to what "others" might say.

It is because too many people do it as an excuse not to be an adult. You do not see it because you are still at home. If you go away to college or move away for work for a few years you see it, friends and others who were living with parents when you left still there and still doing the same half-assed job. I have known and heard of guys like you. Get along with their parents well and live a full life just have no good reason to take the expense of their own place. I heard of three guys all bachelor brothers got a place and took their mother in. She did the laundry so she could feel she was earning her keep. They all were happy.
