Matpat’s theories have been a constant part of my life since I was 8 years old ( I’m 16 now ). I won’t lie, I cried. It felt like saying goodbye to a second father figure. But I understand that he wants to spend more time with his wife and son. And he’s been doing it for 13 years. While I will give the videos after Matpat leaves a chance, but it will never feel the same

I've been watching Matpat for at least 9 years, he is my first RU-vid subscription. I'm gonna miss him, he was unironically one of the most impactful people of my life.
Phil's not wrong. I only started watching Smosh again when Anthony came back because I felt like Smosh lost a part of itself when he left. I can appreciate the new cast for what they are but it just didn't feel like the Smosh I knew. The new Theorists era will still be Game Theory, Film Theory, etc. but it won't be what a lot of fans fell in love with and they'll probably stop watching altogether, me included. Hope the best for their future, but I'm unlikely to be viewing it.

I feel like he did a good job of working on easing us all into the new hosts, what with their frequent appearnces and colabs in recent episodes and shorts. Just going off of vibes, I think Style Theory and Food Theory are gonna be absolutely fine. I am a little nervous to see how fulm and game theory hold up, but i trust MatPat's judgement. He wouldn't hand stuff off without setting up eveything as best as he can for it to succeed
4:37 I feel like the main difference here compared to others leaving their companies is that MatPat’s influence will still be there, he will still be one of the major parts of the show, just not the voice anymore. I’m sure we’ll see plenty more DadPat jokes to come since he says he’ll still be a writer and such! But of course, we’ll miss him. And I hope that when the time finally comes, as it always does, it can be a happy sendoff. Nothing could replace him and what he’s meant to us, so let’s make it good, y’all!
I woke up yesterday and saw him trending on Twitter, thinking it was just people getting pissed at one of his theories again. I checked, and.. yeahhhh. Much worse. I checked his channel, saw the video, and immediately started bawling my eyes out watching it. I've been watching him ever since the early FNAF days, 2014-2015. I was in kindergarten. I'm *14* now. He was a major comfort creator to me, and hearing this news was just heartbreaking. He means so much to me, and unironically had a huge impact on my life. I completely understand why he's doing it, and I respect his decision, but man, it hurts. It really does. But that's just the way things go, unfortunately. Times change. We aren't all little kids anymore. We're getting older, and so is he. He wants to spend more time with his friends and family, and that is completely understandable. All I can say is I wish him the best in whatever he plans to do next in his life. We love you, Mat. Thank you for everything. ❤ #ThankYouMat

Yeah, I have the same experience, of growing out of Game Theory, Film Theory and the like, but I ADORED it in middle school, and his FNAF theories came out right at that sweet spot of time as a kid, when I was in my most intense interest in FNAF. 2. I've been recovering from surgery, so these videos are actually quite nice. To have something regular is really good for my head.
I think Matpat is one of the most influential youtubers of all time. "but that's just a theory" is such a ubiquitous joke to make. Even channels with higher sub counts don't have such an iconic phrase.
Matpat was definitely a huge part of my childhood, and while it’s sad to see him go, i think it was smart of him to put his family life over RU-vid. I have nothing but respect for him, and wish him the best. (Also congrats on the shiny Togedemaru!)
After making that joke he sensed that there was a theorist that he couldn't beat and that was you so that's why he retired from the Internet Joking aside, this is very sad...truly the end of an era. I wish him and his family the best and have an incredibly happy life.
I really will miss MatPat. I was just like you. He WAS my childhood and now being 20 when I've watched him since his first fnaf theory... it's sad to just see him go... I will miss him

I don't think there has been a point in my life where I have been using RU-vid and MatPat wasn't there for it. This man has been a part of my life on the internet for as long as I can remember, so honestly it feels so surreal to see him retire. End of an era man, hopefully the new hosts can have their own Sans is Ness to cement them as a worthy successor.
Think he was smart to introduce these people through the last few years so the community can get to know them, as well as letting them write scripts so when the time comes it doesnt feel completely different. I think thats why he uses the doctor who analogy, a changing of voices and some personality but the writing and feeling will be very close. Wish the best for him ofc!
Something that's helpful about the transition is that it's all people we've seen in different videos across the channels, I don't remember names but the person who's gonna be running Style Theory was someone I found hilarious, like they have a great sense of humor, and if you think about it like Matpat said probably a good idea to split the roles of each channel to somebody else because it'd be a lot of anybody to handle running 4 RU-vid channels. Also wow another UhYeah Gaming video with Pokemon Sword and Shield background footage. I was literally playing through my Pokemon Black 2 Nuzlocke when you uploaded your thoughts on Matpat leaving. What's your favorite Pokemon type, like if you had to choose one to be a gym leader for, what type would your gym be based on? And what would be your ace Pokemon? I figured that'd be easier then asking what's your favorite Pokemon but then again that's honestly just as if not tougher. Please as a Pokemaniac I'm way to curious for my own good. Or maybe don't respond? Then I'll be asking more Pokemon questions and helping the RU-vidr algorithm help you or whatever
I don't have much nostalgia for MatPat cause I never really watched his videos that much, obviously I watched a few but I wasn't like a huge fan. Still feels really weird to have him not be the theory guy anymore. Good for him for freeing more time for family though, wish him well.
Not really, especially since it’s not just things he’s said, but things he’s done that contribute to real harm. His videos were never really enjoyable in any capacity once I was no longer a child, and I probably won’t even remember that he’s retired by the time he’s gone.

Even though I have a dislike for MatPat (only because I found the multitude of theory channels annoying and kinda felt like a cash grab to me and some of his earlier videos leave a bad taste in my mouth) he was still a huge part of my childhood and I will always be happy for that.
Of the 19 years I've been alive and the 12 years game theory's been around, I believe I've been watching for around 11 of them, which is a long ass time. He's almost the entire reason I became interested in FNaF and a lot of other games too. Needless to say, I'm gonna miss him heaps, and I wish nothing but the best for his replacement hosts. Even if the old audience loses interest, I'm certain a new one will come and take its place.
About the changing of hosts, I feel that the Theorists channels will be able to do it the best of any channel trade-off, if not actually succeed. I remember Tom from many of the Game Theory videos where he's either had cameos, sections, or I've seen him appear in the GTLive videos, so seeing him take over Game Theory might be a little odd at first but I'll get used to it quick. For the general scene of their channels, they might experience a big dip as the change happens, but I feel afterward it'll slowly rise back up to near, if not all the way back to the usual numbers they get now. And then with Matt still being there behind the scenes to help with some minor things, I feel this will probably end up working for them.

Matpat has been a big part of my life it’s sad to see him go I’m happy he can finally take a break and spend time with his family but it’s sad knowing we won’t see him in videos ever again I just hope the new host doesn’t get attacked because they’re not matpat I don’t have hope the channels won’t tank in views people watch game theory for matpat i’ll still watch the theory channels but I know not everyone will so i just hope the brand doesn’t die because I still like the content the team makes this is new is also making me wonder if more RU-vid are leaving like matpat said you can’t do it forever at some point all the RU-vid i grow up with will retire and and it’s sad to see them go
For me it's extremely werid because I just finished doing my first successful career change [got a new job!] Matpat decides to retire. I wish him the best, kids grow up fast and I hope this change lets him be the father he wants to be to his son.
I enjoyed the less Lore heavy theory's so my favourite episode of Game Theory was how much Minecraft Diamond Armour would cost cause it's all science & maths
I had a similar moment. I was watching a video essay on speedrunning and the narrator said something that sounded like a matpat impression! So I timestamped and commented that obvi then when I finished that video I was told about matpat's retirement announcement. it's very ironic.
It’s not like he died. He’s happy. He finally paid back his parents for all the support they gave him. He has his own family now. He’s following his dreams and not making content for other people. Good for him. Happy ending IMO. For me, there’s nothing to be sad about. I understand that you’re sad about it though. People being sad about it are just experiencing change. You’re growing up with the world around you changing. It’s zoomers finally experiencing what everyone else did. Can’t wait for zoomers to tell the next generation “back in my day, we had MattPat! Not this Thingamajig you’re into!!” 😂
Yeah he explains all of it matpat has been my childhood and i think there is nothing we can do exept for respect his wishes he was always just like videos and sponsors and things but he has a wife and children and hes getting a bit older not that hes old but his ageing everyone is but its crazy but i wish him good
