I played Dredge, the new indie adventure fishing-sim video game from New Zealand based studio Black Salt Games.
In this review I share some spoiler-free gameplay and give my impressions. This is not a walkthrough, tutorial, or guide, but you might find a few tips and tricks to get you started should you decide you try Dredge out for yourself :)

Dredge was able to captivate, scare, and immerse. The game was able achieve such balance and style with a look and palette that's easy to dismiss as "kid-platformy" but actually has a ton of maturity in it's design decisions. I imagine the development team probably had a lot of meetings where they kept asking the WHY and they were always able to ANSWER it satisfyingly before proceeding to the next phase of the development.

Wow, this is such a small channel yet good quality videos. Surprised youtube suggested something useful for once. Also damn Dredge was good. I'm hoping they do a sequel with a bit more budget for more story/dialogue/cutscenes.

Reminds me much of a 3D Version of sunless sea. If you havent played that, do it, its amazing!

I picked this game up yesterday, and I have to say, if you find games are often frustrating, you like inventory management, exploration, creepy visuals contrasting a calm atmosphere, and just beautiful music, get this game. GET IT. You don't need guides or tutorials, it's quite self-explanatory and frankly, for an indie game this is easily a 9/10 or better.

smaller games that really had a huge impact on me gaming wise are subnautica, the forest, and then darkwood. and now i hope this could be on that list.

One thing I thing you forget to mention is how a “loss” never feels cheap, at least for me, I never felt like if I lost my progress because of something it was the game screwing me over

Did you hang on to that sigil ring? (6:22) I've had it in my cargo ever since I first found it because of the item description, but wondering whether it actually has any effect on gameplay, or is just (ironic, considering what happened to the previous owner) flavour text....

What is the longevity of this game? Endless replayable?

It has a roughly 10 hour campaign, then depending on whether you’re hungry for more, you could keep playing to try and catch every species, or perhaps start a new game to try and complete every quest without failing or speed run the story. There are some reasons to continue playing/replay but it’s not designed with that in mind!
