I'm not sure it really was one-sided, though - rather Frieren, because of her long lifespan is just much, much slower to process and recognize emotions than a human... which is why she's only just now starting to think about her relationship with Himmel and what he meant to her, almost a century after their adventure together. This is just speculation, but I'm guessing as the story goes on, and they get closer to reaching Heaven, she will start to understand her own feelings better, and slowly realize that she felt some kind of love towards Himmel. The flower on her ring is a bud, because Frieren's love for Himmel wasn't ready to blossom yet, when he bought her that ring, she is still growing and learning even now...

In episode 6 Frieren said the number of elves have become lesser over the years suggest that it's hard for their kind to develop romatic relationship thus making it hard for them to populate. Based on this we can assume elves are really that oblivious to love or simply to awkward to acknowledge one

@@bubbletea7029 I see it as kind of similar to autism, in a way: It's not that they don't feel emotions, they just struggle to understand and/or express it properly - and when two elves who are bad at communicating their feelings meet, it is highly unlikely to result in any kind of romantic scenario.

I sort of remember that was the issue with conserving pandas, their heats were really short and (due to habitat destruction & environmental reasons) the population density was too low for it to be efficient enough that the numbers stayed stable, or increased. Plus, cubs were really weak when born and took too long to mature. Sounds to me like the elves are literally hitting all these jackpots.

I dont think its bud because it was onesided, but because Frieren, unlike Fern, just didnt process her feelings for a long time. Using the metaphor of the Flower, Fern is aware of her own feelings to an extend, thus the flower of her love is blooming, Frieren meanwhile is only beginning to understand the depths of her feelings and how they relate to Himmel, thus the flower of her love is still budding, and has been doing so for over 50 years.

Sorry for the necro, but not to mention, both raised by a few of the world's greatest heroes, and ones that have a longer lifespan than humans to boot, and also the ones that seem more aloof. They'd definitely have a lot of social issues because of that...

birthdays are the celebration of someone's life, so if you care about someone naturally giving them something shows your appreciation of their existence. is doesn't have to be an object, but something with meaning for you and them. something you put time into. it can be as simple as your company. i dont think it's the right way of thinking as gifts as an obligation because special days in general are celebrations. it's great to give things periodically, but giving a gift is seen as an explicit: i care about you. you mean alot to me. you make my life better. you make me a better person. and it means so much to others when that effort is made :)

Her friends organise a surprise party anyway. You can warn her its happening but regardless the party goes foward. If she doesn't know its coming she reacts very badly. If she does she pretends to be ok for a while but they won't leave her alone till she finally flips out. Are we monsters for telling people we DO NOT WANT TO CELEBRATE? Are the people who just ignore us so they can have a party actually our friends? And in reverse I struggle with dates. Massively. So if I forget a birthday it must be because I'm an uncaring monster, right? Sure I get crippling anxiety attacks because I have no idea what to get but if I don't I'm an uncaring monster, right? Birthdays suck for me.

I never said ur an uncaring monster, but that sounds like something internal so you should probably talk about that with someone you trust in regards to magick, that's a huge issue with her 'friends' not respecting her boundaries, not anything to do with her actual birthday. Like i said before, birthdays are celebrations of a person's life, but if you care/respect a person then you wouldn't purposefully cross their boundaries so ofc in that context it's totally ok not to make a huge deal out of it (that's why magick's friends could legit just say: i respect you, thanks for being the person you are. i get that you're uncomfortable with a big deal being made out of it, so i'll just let you know i really like you being in my life and you mean a lot to me. and that would be a fine birthday gift)?? honestly, if your biggest issue with birthdays and gift giving is the reaction of the other person then that really sounds like an indicator about the people you're getting gifts for. if you ever get the courage too, definitely talk to em about it. it might seem scary, but communication is key and they'll most likely understand :) (ya girl's got anxiety aswell about these things, but talking to my friends about this kind of thing opened my eyes and allowed us to mutually work out something that was cool for both of us) but again we are strangers on the internet so do whatever u wanna do my g

It's not uncommon in their world, if you're born noble you'd do it at a ball to invite a girl to a dance. People also do it to their liege lords to show respect or loyalty. It's still a “grand gesture", but Himmel's personality is playful enough that it could be seen as done on a whim (Imao at least with Frieren's level of understanding).

I don't know if that's really "tsundere" though - it's not like she really is being cold and distant, rather she's just slower to process and express emotion than humans... At least to me, it seems like her emotional evolution is in slow-motion, it develops exactly as anyone else's, she feels the same things as anyone else, she just takes 50 - 100 years to reach the conclusion that she has feelings for someone, where a human might figure it out in a matter of days, weeks, or at most a few years.

She can't really fit into a stereotype. But if I had to say... She'd be a kuudere not a tsundere. Tsundere would be outright denying any affection even though they know they do feel it deep down. They usually appear mad/upset on the outside. Kuudere are more like emotionless characters who have that neutral 😐expression all the time. They're usually logical in their approach to things and/or they don't understand feelings.

Not everting is a tsundere. Tsunderes are highly emotional and outgoing to the point that they don't know what to do with the emotions they are feeling and lash out. What you are describing is a kuudere. They are emotionally distant and cold and they are slowly brought out of their shell. The two archetypes are largely attributed to Evangelion. Asuka was a tsundere and Rei was a kuudere.

But Stark and Kraft are way closer. 😂

That's exactly why he didn't. He knew that she wasn't emotionally ready for a romantic relationship and that she would far outlive him. He understood it wouldn't work out. Himmel was very emotionally mature and empathetic.

it was shown in the episode with voll the old dwarf. himmel knows he his human and will die in a short time compared to her. and at the time frieren had no intrest in humans she only started to care after his death. he knew that the best way to love her was to basically let her go.

@@mustsnip537 I don´t think, that fits his character. He was someone who lived in the moment, yet never lost sight of his goal. He was empathetic and understood others feeling yes, but he was also "selfish" enough to drag his friends into danger or spent hours just to have statues of their party made. I don´t think he was the type of guy who would just give up on the girl he loved and seclude himself. Even if he respected her wish for freedom, i think he would have either gone with her or move on completely and get himself another girl/family. And i don´t think his mortality would have been an argument for him to back of, since (as i said) he lived in the moment.

Because as much as he loved Frieren, he was devoted to helping people.
