If the only movie you released this year was Hello My Beautiful Creatures, I would still call it a lifetime achievement. Everything on top of that has been a gift, and well beyond impressive. Whatever happens next, I'm excited to see and could not be disappointed.
Even if you don’t hit your goal of 12 movies for a year, it’s still impressive that you filmed 10 so far this year and that is great! Your movies have been fantastic thus far and I’m looking forward to the rest!
Since April I've also been working on a feature film, its a first for me, and it was partially spurred on by this year of films, and your attitude towards film making. Since then I've been across the eastern coast of the united states filming this thing, and I've learned more than I ever could have any other way. I'm also in the homestretch of my film's production, so i just want thank you for doing this, and kind of pushing everyone trying to get their best, its definitely helped me!
Congrats on making a feature my friend! It’s a huge accomplishment, hope the final stages go well. Send me an email when it’s done! I have no time but I have a playlist of movies to watch for when I do!
As someone else said, thank you for making Hello My Beautiful Creatures, it's not only my favorite movie you have made this year, it's my favorite movie of the year! I don't watch many movies so take that how you will, but it's on my top 10 of all times for movies I have watched.
Joel, hand's down one of the most inspiring vids I've ever seen. The confidence and positivity you maintain in the face of such a tall order is both invigorating, and second hand stressful as fuck. I'm sure it's also first hand stressful as fuck. Yet you somehow make it look easy. These flicks are special for all the reasons you mentioned. I just wrapped on my first 48 hour film festival, and I learned how fun it can be to work on a team with a time limit. So many problems pop up, and your only option is to collaborate or watch the project fall apart. When you start to feel like a hivemind, everything else just falls into place. To reach the level of quality you're putting out, I can only imagine how many people you've learned to sync with like that. Beyond how cool you make the process sound, the films themselves have been incredible. I hadn't seen much of your long form work before seeing The Hero's Journey, so I didn't know what to expect. That movie blew my mind. One of my favorite recent films, and you made it in a month. That ending left me feeling so gd terrible lol, but The Text made up it. So well rounded, and it has my favorite ending of all your films this year. Trying to work through my emotions and laziness and lack of technical skill is so discouraging. Seeing someone else do it, and with something so good to show for it is insanely motivating. Even if you don't make it to 12, the fact that you have no intention of failing is inspiring. Good luck 🙏
I feel like as Movie 12 is out by January 25th (the day before the anniversary of The Hero's Journey) the goal is accomplished with no asterisks whatsoever
How nice of Joel to use up his daily 5 minutes of pee break to give us an update, before disappearing back into the editing dungeon! (I am, however, slightly concerned about the state of his bladder)
Your energy is so contagious! I can't wait to see the rest of your films this year. I've begun some projects that are in the works because I believe you when you say that anyone can be a filmmaker. Thanks and keep it up!
Thank you so much Joel for making Hello My Beautiful Creatures. It is by far my favorite movie you have made in the year. I couldn't believe how grand in scope it was and how meaningful the story was.
Even if you had just made "Hello my Beautiful Creatures" this year, that would have been MORE than enough! That movie blew me away and I've seen it more than once and showed it to many others. Thank you for giving that film time to be what it was in such a crunched year. Seriously, thank you!
I can’t say I’ve been disappointed with any of your movies Joel. My 2 favorites so far has to be “Anyone else but Me” and “Hiccups” The casting was phenomenal! I can’t wait to see what’s coming!
The fact you made my beautiful creatures at all is stunning, The fact it was made to be a part of this 12 Movies in 12 months is just unbelievable! Can’t wait to see the other prijects
I absolutely adore all your movies but if I were to pick one that still sticks with me today and probably for a very long time to come it would have to be “It Just Takes Time”. Love what your doing and the passion you and your friends put into these films is incredible❤️❤️❤️
Good luck on the last couple months. What you are doing is awesome/crazy/insane/wild/interesting/hilarious/baffling/impressive/honorable + a lot more different adjectives
I know you're really shooting for 12 in 12 but what you've already done is immensely impressive and there's no shame in 12 in 14 or whatever. Don't overwork yourself your mental health and taking care of yourself is important. I love your movies
I haven’t had time to sit down and give Hello My Beautiful Creatures the attention it deserves yet, but the fact you were able to crack out a gargantuan stop motion movie in such short time and still have enough of the creative juices flowing to continue this challenge is amazing. I don’t make movies, but your work ethic has been super inspiring with my music and photography and stuff. Not to mention everything I have had time to watch has been good to great, imo. Nice work man
Its the dream man. Waking up every day throwing yourself into the fire that forges these ideas. Its impressive no matter the scope moving forward and I agree biting off more than you bargained for makes things even more interesting in retrospect. Keep pushing
I love that even with two months left you didn’t hesitate and play it safe, whether you make the cut off or not I’m glad you’ve made some of my favorite movies in the span of a year
Joel, your passion for this project just completely got to me. The spark in your eyes while talking and the dedication in your words, they hit me hard and now I’m all teary eyed. I guess most people, including me, have never felt like that or are too scared to act on it. Like you say, it’s a blessing for you but oh my are you yourself a blessing to all of us. I’m very excited for the next movies! Good luck!!
It Just Takes Time was gorgeous, your ability to infuse lower budget films with real heart and personality is so admirable. Good luck with the editing 😸
Joel, you are such an inspiration to me and you have no idea how much every movie you make moves me emotionally, keep it up and I'm so excited for all of your upcoming projects!!
had my own challenge this year, too. make 1 movie in a year, film 1 scene every month and leave Dec for editing. Life pushed plans back, as is to be expected. So now it'll be more like, film a movie in one month (Nov) and edit it in the next (Dec). Thanks for keeping us updated on ur movie progress, it helps ground my expectations to compare our situations a little bit, ya know? Anyways, happy editing, looking forward to the next 6 and beyond!
A fellow Lego stop motion enthusiast, my greatest achievement was maybe 10 seconds worth but hey I was like 12. The variety of genres and the depth of the characters is insane for such fast production, every one so far has been incredible.
If Joel ran this into January, I wouldn’t hold this against him. What with the writing I’m doing for my VR Oscar’s movie ima shoot next year I have MASSIVE respect on Joel for even releasing 3 movies in one year. So Joel, if you see this, do you, I ain’t holding nothing but anticipation.
Was wondering if he'd go for that but no October movie apparently. It'd be pretty different from his other stuff but knowing him that would probably make it appealing
