This is a video I never thought I would be making... but then maybe deep down I knew that Booktube wasn't sustainable as just a hobby. Anyway, thank you for an amazing 2 and a half years.
Where else to find me?

I had to scale back watching booktube because it stopped me from actually reading real books. I understand how time consuming and even obsessive it can become. Best wishes to you and your husband.

I’ve made it so on Sundays I can search for books/ watch book tube but on weekdays when I see a video I just add it to a playlist and spend that time reading. My tbr was getting longer but my read books was unchanging because I’d spend more time looking for books to read than actually reading the ones I already had and thought I would like.

Hello Anne, I just found your channel. I am a professional artist. I just wanted to let you know that as an artist there are moments I love a piece dearly and I gave it my all...and it hasn't gained the traction I hoped. Then there are pieces that weren't my personal favorites and they are dearly loved by the masses. The point is create what you love. Art and life are both subjective. Follow your dreams and don't worry about the count. I can tell you the 50 people who enjoyed it got way more out of it than you realize. Enjoy what moves you. Stay true to you. Wishing you all good things.

Anne, Darn, I just discovered you this morning and browsed through some of your videos. awesome. I'm 80 years old and my wife and I watch several book tubers each morning-mostly Michael k Vaughn and Steve Donoghue. Sometimes CriminOlly but eliminated most. You're genre isn't what I mostly read but you have some good ideas and honest opinions- that's important. I discovered book tube by searching for ideas of good books to read a year ago. Lots of people will miss you . Hope you come back!

You will be missed and I do totally get what you are saying. I went from 2-3 videos a week to averaging one a week and it makes me happy. We do what we need to do. I'm new to your channel and I love watching your content. I understand the reasons you gave as to why being on the booktube is challenging. Feeling pressure to comment and watch or the disillusionment of people who use to comment, but have just stopped, is a real fear. Taking a step back is always a great thing. Spending time to take care of your mental health plus deciding what new direction you want for your channel, is part of the process. Just know I for one will be here when you do return💕☺️

I've been here for six years, and I've seen how I will go through times of not watching any booktube for months and then binging a bunch and it can be very discouraging. But I've learned to see value in seeing my channel as more of a treasure chest of my own memories but it's hard to wire it away from affirmation. I've been a more occasional watcher but I've always liked listening to your thoughts and I hope if it feels right you will return. ❤

I came across your channel today while looking for reviews on David Copperfield. I loved your review, right on my alley! I will be looking for other postings from you and certainly will miss you. Now you touched a sensitive cord with your sawing addition as part of immersing yourself into the character’s life. I am an avid sewer and I get my inspiration from everything around me. Thank you for the closure video. I agree that being part of this awesome community of readers, it's very tempting to get sucked in. I love to watch my favorite content providers, and I love to hear about books pitched that I will add to my TBR. As much as I feel close to my favorite content providers, I also know that they are really just "imaginary friends." I also realize that trying to read all the interesting books, I've put real life activities aside. While that might work well all winter long while the weather is cold and roads are icy, the lack of motivation beyond binge watching book tubers and trying to squeeze in of few actual books has taken over my summer activities and my flower gardens look like how I feel, unexercised. I haven't gone out to find friends in real life. Booktube, I realize has become my drug. I too, as a follower, need to find balance. A new video even just once a month among ALL the content providers, or even just a teaser video with a list of book recommendations or a poll or just a stats of your life balance in the description would be appreciated. You might consider setting up patreon account so that your followers can show their appreciation with a tip.

I had never come across your channel until this morning but appreciated what you had to say. I just recently started watching book tube videos. Anne, I have been having similar issues with the amount of time it takes to keep up with everything on here, so I’ve just been getting very behind and burying my head in the sand about it because to try and watch everything is just so stressful. Particularly recently when I have been selling my house and having a huge amount of work. You and I started around the same time and I love the community aspect but the time it takes is a lot. I will miss you on here (you might wonder as I’ve barely watched anything recently, but it’s true - when I have time, I love watching your videos) but I think it is really healthy to reflect on how it makes you feel to be on here. I checked out on Instagram before Christmas for exactly these reasons (and also called it an indefinite hiatus on my profile!) I hope we cross paths on here or within the bookish community again at some point! I wish you every happiness. PS I remember your beauty and the beast video very well.

Anne, I was choked up listening to your farewell. I will miss you and our wonderful conversations! I'll be praying for your house savings to get back on track quickly. Car troubles can be very frustrating. I'm so sorry. I definitely understand that creating RU-vid content takes up a ridiculous amount of time. It's exactly why I haven't had a channel. My husband thought I should start a book, prayer or art channel but I have no idea how any of you find the time on top of work, life family and stress to make an edit videos. Superheroes in disguise? I always marvel at how much effort you put into the channel and it's been such a blessing and a joy getting to know you ❤ and to share a love of books 📚 I understand the feeling of abandonment well. My husband is military and we move every few years. It's really hard and so exhausting starting over with friends and also trying to keep track of family and friends long distance. That's actually what I've been doing the past few weeks. I came up to MI from DC so I could celebrate Easter and mother's day with my extended family. So I've been MIA on social comments. I've also been spending a great deal of time discerning and researching Catholicism and church history in depth thanks to you and your book recommendations❤️ and I've been watching Pints with Aquinas and the Coming home network. While I'm here my uncle is going to take me to talk with his priest and they're trying to get my book into the local Catholic school curriculum. Which is such an unexpected opportunity and I'm indescribably grateful they're willing to consider it. Anyhow, I wanted to let you know because you were the first person to share my book on RU-vid. That meant so much to me and I'm so grateful for your generosity and all of your encouragement! 🫂📚❤️

Omg. Say it aint so, Anne!! So these past two weeks I noticed your absence. I kept checking your channel thinking youtube screwed up and that my notifications weren’t working. I missed you. I even went to your Instagram to see if you were active on there and saw that you were so just figured you were busy. This is how much a part of my week you are! I love watching your channel and will miss you dearly. It’s funny because I see in Mary’s comment that she saw the sewing video, but not the Beauty and the Beast one and it’s the opposite for me. I loved the beauty and the beast episode and was so into it. I definitely understand everything you are saying. It can become frustrating. I always wanted to start a booktube channel, it was a dream of mine and I was lucky enough to find the perfect partner. Well, I just want you to know that a hole will now be left in booktube that can never be filled. I’m just going to have to start watching your old videos now so I don’t have to miss you LOL. Man, I totally relate to that too because I also moved a lot as a kid. My dad was in construction and in the military. I have moved from Oregon to Colorado back to Oregon to Iowa, back to Oregon back to Iowa to Maryland and now my current state I live in. And while we're in Oregon, we had another couple moves while being an Oregon as well. And when you do move nobody stays in contact with you and it is very traumatizing to have a friendship and then they just don't stay in contact because you're another state and you're always in a new state trying to make new friends knowing you're only going to be there for a year or two and it's really hard to have that kind of security. And I feel like bookstagram and booktube is very similar feeling as well. Because even though I have some followers, the interactions are slimmed and none. Even when I ask different questions of how's your week going? What did you think about this book? If you read it, are you interested in reading it, etc? There's never any interactions that always feels like a long distance friendship and it's kind of depressing. And that's why I really stopped with my interactions altogether and just post my reviews so that I remember which books I've read and which ones I dealt and so I don't reread a book. I don't want to reread because I forgot that I've already read it😅

Hi. Just stumbled on your video. I am thinking of starting a booktube and I feel truly understand (without even having started) that this could take a whole lot of time. Especially having to be active in watchining others and making your own voice heard on others channel. As you see here I am doing exactly that. Anyway Good luck. Sorry you are closing right when I started watching ! RU-vid algorithm sucks and I tell from my past experience with a channel I almost abandoned after struggling to even elevate at 200 subscribers after three years of posting well edited and I say..interesting videos. YT recommending me channels I want nothing to do with, creators/ influencers trying to sale a brand or other. Whatever I post is not for YT anymore ..is just for me and 1 or 2 others. YT can make money from advertising on my videos, but it can help me grow. I love reading and many a times have no idea what I should read but I make a thorough research on the books I chose and care a lot for what sort of life those writers lead before I will open a book written by anyone. Congratulations on having and caring for a family! God bless you and help you save for a home!

Oh, dear! I have just discovered you and love the way you talk so openly about your doubts and joys. I shall definitely look out the video on the home-made JA dress. I find watching women sewing so soothing and restful, even though I myself am male and only just about able to sew a button on in half an hour or even longer. I think it is inevitable that deeper, more complex videos attract fewer views. People just don't seem interested in profound, important things. On the other hand people from a different YT community might suddenly discover your JA video and it might get hundreds, if not thousands of new admirers. I hope we'll see you back again before too long.

Anne!! Oh Anne!! I had so many responses as I was listening to you. I get it. It’s a lot to keep up with. You DEFINITELY put a lot in to your videos and watching/commenting. If it means anything- Joe and I always felt so supported by you. We felt like you were our number one fan and we often marveled that you had the time to watch so many of our videos. You are right- there’s a lot out there and it takes a lot of time. It’s good that you are looking at what’s right for you and stepping back to reduce stress and allow yourself to put those hours towards something else in your life. If it’s cumbersome and less fun, there’s no reason to push and not be enjoying it. I loved the video where you made a dress- I totally remember that one! I didn’t watch ur beauty and the beast one tho. I hear ya on all the work and then the low views. We did a “movie” of Graceling series and it was soooo much editing!! Crazy hours went into that and then we loved it so much but it just didn’t perform well. So yeah, that’s rough. I think what helps me keep going is to laugh off the low numbers and just enjoy the time with my book bud! Idk if I could stick it out being solo. As long as Joe keeps making me laugh, I’ll stick around for making content 😂 I’ll miss you Anne! Best of luck to you! And maybe we will see you around again sometime! 💕

Oh you covered a lot of topics that could turn into their own discussions. Just found you today (congrats on writing a book I plan to watch your newest upload next) but you seem so honest in your videos with a more “niche” and organic taste. Don’t be afraid to branch out! The sewing and cooking videos would be lovely. In a time where media pushes a “need” to min and max content, it’s hard to find a brand. Life interconnects so tightly, where do interests and hobbies begin and end in their own little boxes? These thoughts come from wanting to start my own channel, but I have an interest in reviewing cookbooks and homesteading books, as well as cooking and getting kids into history and culture with media as a foot in the door. I don’t really expect to make money and have the channel be a passion project. But do I make a separate channel for homesteading books and cooking and make my classics separate? Do my Animal Crossing or say, kransekake for a Disney Frozen party go elsewhere? Or pile it all on one channel alongside botanical illustration videos? I don’t write all of that expecting a dialogue, it’s just to illustrate that you aren’t alone in the quest to find balance between creating, watching, and “branding”. Booktube is beautiful and creative and communal. But if we aren’t careful, it can cause the anxiety and loss of time that’s a common theme in these comments. Your work is great and appreciated even if the numbers aren’t what are contemporarily thought of as “making it.” Go with your heart and anything you create in the appropriate seasons of your life will be appreciated here. It’s strange to think that someone could find you in one day and get to “know you” in a short amount of time from watching your archive, but you do seem so nice and genuine. I wish you the best in your future endeavors, and hope your passions bring you fulfillment!

It’s so hard to get into a rhythm with booktube! I have weeks where i finish a bunch of books all at once and that week’s video is overstuffed, or weeks where I’m still in the middle of stuff and I don’t have much to talk about. Very interesting. I've been thinking about creating a Booktube channel (under a different account name). But if I do, I will be very careful with my branding so as not to fall into this sort of trap of doing types of videos I don't want to do and feeling obligated to watch other channels I wouldn't otherwise watch out of a sense of reciprocity. It sounds like it could definitely be overwhelming.

Thanks. I'm new at making book videos. I didn't even know there was a "community" when I started. I have made a couple productions, singing with video effects and they don't get any more notice than the talking head exclusive ones. I don't want to spend a lot of time watching other people book video, and I don't have a lot of interesting in like, "TBR: Books I Plan to read in May" or whatever. Plus in not an age peer with many of these book people. I'll probably keep doing the videos for awhile because I use it for something vaguely showbiz to do, but mainly to express myself which is what is most important to me. I'm not consistently interactive enough to be in a community.

I was soooo hoping it was clickbait!!! 😭 I completely understand this. I can’t watch much Booktube either since I’m working a second job now. I’m so glad you’ll still be part of Black Hearts!🖤 You know we’re fun and low key, and I’m excited for October.

I do look forward to all the books we're going to read this summer and fall in the Black Hearts Book club. And you make a good point that the reason I don't mind staying part of the book club is because it's so low key. If I miss a month, I don't feel bad. And it's only one extra book a month!

Well thanks for an explanation video… when people just disappear I wonder if they died. I did something kind of like this, but my transition was not giving as much of a shit. It’s been better. But you’ll be missed because I liked your channel. It’s very real.

I totally understand as a bookstagrammer I also find things to be time consuming. I refuse to do RU-vid because I don't have the care or drive to spend hours on filming a video and then editing. It is not for me. I literally have my bookstagram specifically so that I can remember which books I have read and not reread a book again. Because I've done that. And I know you can do that on Goodreads but I like the visual picture so it's easy to remember and I do enjoy taking pictures of the books that I liked reading. But I don't take a ton of time editing my photos and stuff like that like other people do, which is probably why I don't have a lot of followers. But that's fine by me. But I can understand completely where you're coming from. I'm not really sure why this got recommended cuz I'm not actually a current follower. It just popped up on my news feed.

10:12 “putting too much gratification…” Yes, I understand. I was live streaming for a while - that’s all I ever did with my channel (no editing), but never really interacted with the audience (at least not in in the style of sprints), but I understand what you mean. I enjoy you videos, but I think you should make them when it’s right for you, and in a format you enjoy (example 12:42) Ok - I hope to see you again, but in the meantime, all the best to you!!! (Best of luck on your house)

Someone said it best RU-vid is like a full time job. You have to record, edit, and upload. This can take several hours if not a few days during the week depending upon your own personal schedule etc. I think ultimately you have to do what’s best for you. I get where you’re coming from with making money on RU-vid. It also is discouraging sometimes when you see other channels flourish. Not saying those channels don’t deserve it bc they do, but it’d be nice if it were to happen to your own channel. It’s just like in real life, if you have a co worker that got a promotion and you didn’t but you both put in the same amount of effort it can really feel discouraging. I generally watch booktube here and there but I don’t always comment on the videos I watch. I enjoy your channel very much you definitely opened me up to more books that aren’t what I typically go for. You’ll be greatly missed, take care💕

Honestly, if you take a step back from RU-vid and you decide you still want to do videos, you should just do the videos that you want to do and rebrand your contacts instead of forcing yourself into a box and doing what you truly love. But if that's not filming more adaptations of different movies and stuff like that, then you know just do what it is that makes you happy. And it's a good thing that you realize that it's not making you happy so you can take a step aside and figure out what it is you want to do and if it's something you still are interested in because I've seen a lot of bookstagrammers and booktubers get totally worn out and you can tell they're worn out but they keep making content and you just don't want to watch it. Because well, why would you want to watch someone who doesn't enjoy what they're doing? So I think taking a step back to figure out what you want to do is very wise decision for your mental health. It's a great example for others that maybe struggling with the same thing

I just found you and think I'd really enjoy your videos. If you watch videos, you have less time to read. You're right to do this. Do what you love and love what you do. You might take up knitting. It's very meditative. Embroidery too. Off topic...I just spent over $1,000. on my car and now finding I have a slow oil leak. I need to buy a new car within a year and I'm semi retired. Just saying, everyone gets the financial aspect. Best of luck. I'll watch your old videos!

Just a quick comment telling you how much I love those glasses on you. There really, really cute and they have to be extremely comfortable to wear as well. Your really quite nearsighted aren't you? As a retired optician I can see quite a bit of "cut-in" through your lenses. If you don't know what "cut-in" is, if you freeze frame your video at :56 - :58 and look through your right lens notice how the side of your face jumps inward under the lens of your glasses. that's "cut-in". The more it jumps inward the stronger the prescription is. My best guess is that your glasses are in the -3.50 to -4.00 range.
@AnneEWilliamson
@AnneEWilliamson 5 месяцев назад
-2.25 and -3, depending on which eye. I am definitely nearsighted, lol.
@soundmanpt
@soundmanpt 5 месяцев назад
@@AnneEWilliamson Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry for over guessing your prescription. I usually do much better at that. But even at -2.25 / -3.00 that's still more than enough for you to be a fulltime glasses wearer with the possible exception of reading books. Your probably in the habit of leaving your glasses on when reading but you really should be taking them off when reading unless you have astigmatism correction in your glasses which may make your glasses necessary for reading as well. The reason I'm asking is because by keeping your glasses on when doing a fair amount of reading could cause you to be needing a reading add, in other words bifocals or progressives, sooner than you may want them. Now of course if you feel not wearing your glasses to read is straining your eyes then of course wear your glasses.

I think it’s interesting the amount of people in the comments who say “you will be missed” or things like that because I just found your channel through this video and I’m sure they did too. The reason I’m saying this is because your past videos have less than 500 views and suddenly this one has 15k views. So where were you guys then

The good thing about European cities is that they are walkable and have excellent public transport so that you don’t need a car. Don’t know if your husband needs the car for work, but it’s always sad to hear that even young people are already stuck in a car-dependent life.
