Beware of using too many custom models , because you might end up wasting time on custom models that u dont actually need and that time could be invested in flashing out other aspects of the project

In my opinion, maps can look waaay better when utilising custom models for blocks, the only thing that I find very important is to stick to a style. If you make just a single model, that approximates a circle instead of (as minecraft usually does it) representing it by a square, ALL circles need to be more detailed. If you can make out individual planks in a chair model, ALL blocks with planks will need to be that detailed. But in the end, it’s your choice, it surely also is possible to make different styles work side by side. Also, keep in mind the weird and super buggy shading of custom block models, there is often nothing that can be done about that…

i love custom items and blocks to an extent. i agree that if you have too much it can just be over whelming but if you blend it into the vanilla look sparingly then it works well

It's really interesting that I stumbled across this. I thought I was the only one attempting to make a full-on rpg as a datapack/adventure map. Though I'm sure this will release far sooner than mine, since I'm not very consistent in working on it, and it's sort of been in development for almost a decade now with little progress. Granted, it started when I was still in middle school, and it's changed a ton since then. The only real key mechanic I made so far is my dialogue system. Though that is the majority of my gameplay, since my game is a mystery exploration rpg, not an action rpg, and the main mechanic is the extensive branching dialogue. So my main workload is just writing the story and dialogue. But it's cool to see other people with similar ambition for Minecraft datapacks/adventure maps. I've always felt that their potential is mostly untapped by the community.

You should defeninitely not add too many custom block models as it can very quicky ruin minecrafta asthetik. Love what you have done so far!

Would you make a data pack for multiplayer that makes it so you can shift right click enchanting tables with lapis to make them act like a beacons for mining fatigue and make players only able to place blocks once a minute or not at all. It would exclude you and anyone who has done the same to it. And also make it so banners around the beacon extends the range when u shift right click with lapis. Breaking the enchanting table would undo all of it. Could use enchanting particles to make it visible. Could make it cost 4 lapis each table or banner and cost 1 or more xp? Could make a banner and enchanting table limit per person if u want? Or anything like it?

Firstly, were you from the minermen map-jam? The name seems familliar. Coming from a mapmaker myself, this is looking good. Many people don't like the idea of custom models but in reality the way you want your map to look is your treat! The first map I worked on: floreign complex was an adventure and made use a full custom resource-pack. Essentially what I'm trying to say is the way you want your game to look doesn't necessarily have to co-incise with the look of minecraft. Many popular maps will make good use of custom textures & models and it can really sell the map's experience since you won't have to relate it to the world of minecraft. So I'm personally all for unique & interesting models & ditching the old & bold vanilla style Also on another note map length doesn't necessarily mean much playtime or good reviews. You'll thank em when you don't have to fix 100 bugs :)

Yeah, my friend and I made "HN Industries' Testing Division" for the minermen mapjam! Thanks for stopping by, Technodono Yeah I do appreciate the feedback and advice. I'm currently every early on development so I've got time to listen and make decisions before I commit one way or another. Made a few small maps for mapjams and whatnot, but this will be my first large map project

this looks amazing, however i had an idea when you were talking about how u had to account for clicking dialouge buttons outside of dialouge. what if u were in dialouge, but instead clicker an older dialouge button?

On bedrock i just spawn in an npc lol, much easier! it can even have hidden events like if u have an item or level, and you can make it so as soon as they click the npc it changes the dialogue before you see what’s originally suppose to be said.

Wait how did you make it so that previous dialogues dont interfere with each other?

I made it so the buttons are only activatable if a scoreboard is at a certain value! Leaving dialogue or progressing through a dialogue tree will alter the scoreboard value

@@DevonsDesk isnt a good idea custom blocks because they cause a lot a of lag and the datapack will be verry lagy especial If you make verry much custom blocks

@@user-eu8zm4wq5y You're right, however, you can replace the models of existing blocks. So I could pretty easily replace useless/unused blocks with my custom models. Things like structure blocks, petrified wood, etc

I do plan on having similar things! Maybe checking for certain flags like story events, holding an item, having a certain ability etc. I plan on doing a unique take on skill systems
