Religion can be a big thing in international relationships. Most people in Japan are atheist though.

@@OrientalPearl I don't agree that Japanese people are atheist. They have a lot of gods and goddesses here in Japan. They don't have the same concept that westerners do of "belief" in one male god. Especially, they have nature gods and goddesses (sun goddess Amaterasu, goddess of performance and dance Uzume, and more) who exist in their own realm, cultural, spiritual......Japanese people don't have to worry as much about religion and "being saved" like westerners do. It's more like a beautiful natural flow of spirit and nature here, but I'd hardly call it atheist....trees and springs and rocks and mountains are gods. I've really embraced the spirituality here. It's kind of pagan and earthy and it matches the whole western trend to witches, etc., which is how I got my job as well. I grew up in the USA but at 30 I moved to Japan with my husband, who is Japanese (we met in Chicago). Now I've been here almost 26 years. I really love living here and working here too. I can't believe how fast it all went by! Anyway, congratulations and I hope you will enjoy life in Japan!
