I'm NEVER Going Back - Samsung Z Flip 5 

I honestly miss folding phones. I think this is a perfect mix of old school and new school. It also gives a lot more comfort in the pocket, i assume.

I've used the Z Fold 3 for 2 years and have just upgraded to the Fold 5 and I agree completely with you, I love the Z Fold Series and could never imagine going back to a slab phone. I've only had one issue with the screen protector peeling slightly after just under a year and a half of ownership on my Fold 3, but they replaced it for free and were quick to send it back. They're not for everyone but I love folding phones.

I've preordered my Flip 5 also and I love my Flip 4. I can't go back, I love being able to prop my phone on desk and half screen without a phone holder. I love how it fits in my Jean pockets so slim and easy.

Having a smaller phone is addictive. I'm in my second zflip and yes, they are very fragile, but what phone isn't nowadays?

I've always loved the idea of folding phones. This is a concept I've dreamed of since I was a child. I'm so glad that the world has developed and experimented with this technology. Folding devices are just so much fun. I loved selling them to customers when the opportunity came!

It needs to be mentioned that if you have a flip 4, the trade in is INSANE. It costs $0 to $50 to trade in and get a flip 5. Even the flip 3 to 4 trade in feel was really good. Not sure how long Samsung will keep this up but if it costs nothing to $50 to get a new flip every year, that's a no brainer.

I preordered the Flip 5 and traded in my Flip 4 for it. I ended up only paying $50 for the new one cause of a sweet promotion so I'm hyped for it

Got my z flip 5 when I switched carriers, my biggest complaint is the battery. I went into this phone not expecting full day battery ( especially with battery saver on), but I knew the cameras would not be bleeding edge quality. I really enjoy the experience, best part of the phone for me is the texting back on the cover screen. Not to mention when you hang up a call by closing the phone reminds me of my first flip phone years ago.

I didn't think I would use the folding function of my phone as much as I do until I found out that I could use it as a webcam for my computer. Now I use it to have some of the most crisp face cams for job interviews and streaming.

I agree with a lot of you. I've had my z flip 3 second-hand for over a month now, and I absolutely love it. Going back to a slab phone at this point doesn't seem likely. What I like about my phone is the functionality and feel. I would love to upgrade to a z5, but what I like about the z3 vs the z5 is the outside screen. It gives me quick information that I don't really have to pay attention to. I get notifications, can use music player and the step counter is great. Of course I'd love a better battery, but with some tweaks and tricks, I've learned how to save some extra battery on my z3. It's great they increased the size of the screen on the z5, but what is the purpose in having a foldable phone if you have most or all functions available on the outside screen when you could simply open the phone to use it as normal. It would seem to me the z flip 5 would be more delicate and fragile or more prone to breaking because the outside screen is larger. For now, at least for myself, the z flip 3 checks all my boxes, and I hope it lasts til I can upgrade. I love all the features this phone offers. I didn't realize just how much better a flagship phone was until this because I've always bought prepaid, and those phones are crap and stripped down. Thankfully, I was able to transfer no problem with Metro to this phone. What I recently discovered is that I can download gifs and use them as cover or lock screen wallpaper, which I think is so cool. Samsung has always been a strong competitive leading company, making good quality products. I used to be an avid LG customer, but with all the advancements with Samsung, it's all i buy now.

I got the Flip3 two years ago and fell inlove with having a flip form. Even though the 5 came out, I opted to get the Fold4 second hand. I honestly dont know if I can go back to slab phones at this point. Having the fold with a massive inside screen feels like a game changer 🤷‍♂️

I agree with you Austin and yes the flip and foldable phones aren't for everyone! I just recently traded in my old s20 fe to cut down the price towarsds the zflip5. I am glad it's more compact for me and I can make use of the cover screen to read messages and whatnot

Im with you. When i dropped and broke my flip 4, i had to get the s21fe in the mean time and it was effing brutal. I can't go back to slab phones. So glad i got the flip 5. No going back now. Youre right, its hard to describe what makes them so appealing. You really have to hold one in your hand and use it for a few days to fully grasp how much nice it is to use and have on you.

Every RU-vidr loved this phone! I was nowhere close to sold on this form factor until the flip 5 released. The large front screen is 100% the reason I've already pre-ordered and it should be at my house today. I've wanted a Fold for a while but after the Flip 5 came out it does really seem like the more useful form factor for me. Since I have other devices I usually consume content from the larger screen just doesn't make sense anymore. What does make sense is getting my phone out of my face and the front cover display I think is going to make me more productive. And I get a cool new phone, which is the first current gen phone I've ever bought and I pre-ordered it! lol.

the flip concept have been introduced to the consumer market since 1996 with starTAC by motorola, but in the mid-2010s phone manufacturers had stopped producing flip phones because of a decline in popularity, its crazy how now one of the most wanted phones in 2023 is flip phones

Me too. I am always on the go at work with my clients indoor and outdoor and this is so practical to put in and out of pocket and the fold when i need to be off hand.

As an Apple user since 2014/15 you have no idea how much this phone has really tempted me to jump ship from apple’s architecture. I love the folding display, I love the customization that droid has given its users. The only reason I don’t jump ship is the cameras, it’s the same reason why I don’t get on the Nothing Phone 2 even though I love the design. I can’t fathom Apple having a folding phone but maybe they’ll surprise everyone

I have the flip 3 but could never use it as my primary so I decided to trade it in for a crazy deal for the fold 5. I missed having a fold and that's more my style. For all those people that tell foldables have poorer cameras or worse battery, they are forgetting they have other benefits like size, display, productivity, reading or even gaming. Love my fold 5, but if the pixel fold released in Australia, I would definitely get that

Been daily driving my Flip 3 for the last 2 years - can't wait to go to the 5. I honestly can't daily a slab phone any more. My work phone is an old Nokia 7 Plus, and I think if I got anything newer I'd maybe one day succeed at accidentally folding it in half out of habit. Plus, from a lifestyle/tech detox perspective, being able to "close" your phone and just get the essentials on the front is HUGE. I kid you not I felt like I had an extra 2 hours a day free when I first got my Flip 3. The amount of time we waste on our phones scrolling reddit or youtube or *insert other social media here* is insane.

As a lover of the Nintendo GBA sp1 console, I'd love to switch to a flip phone for better portability and a touch of nostalgia but the screen construction has always been a real concern. I'm close to giving one a try but not sure of they are quite there yet.

The Good lock feature for using every app on the outer screen is great. I mainly use it for RU-vid music and audible. There are some apps that just entirely fail on the outer screen but most apps work great.

I agree, never liked big phones. Z Flip 3 user for the past year and a half, looking forward to upgrade to Z Flip 5. Camera is great (not compared to S23 Ultra of course but good enough for me, portability is great, I can take with me while running, hiking. Fits on my from shirt pocket when I dress business clothes. Never going back

Honestly what has kept me from getting a folding phone is definitely the support. To be fair I have not investigate much on the subject but I highly doubt there is a place where i can go and have it fixed in my country. Wish it would be as convenient as it seems to be in US. I just see myself getting one and stops working or some issue with the screen comes up and just keeping it as a paperweight

I get it. I have used my iPhone mini 13 until there’s nothing left of my battery. I’m sad that there is no longer a mini available. So I ordered the Razr 2023. Excited but nervous and the learning curve that is about to happen.

honestly, when my contract was due for an upgrade, i went down the zflip route, partly because of seeing you rave about it, but mainly as i saw the potential of sorting out an issue ive been having with phones these days, which is they are just too big, screens are getting bigger and bigger and bigger to the point we can't really call smartphones "phones" anymore and should really be calling them "Phablets" with how big they are getting, and i have been wanting a smaller phone for ages so i went down the flip route solely on that thought path and you know what, i'm glad i did, and as soon as my contract is due an upgrade again i will be sticking with the zflip series as it does everything i want it to do, whilst also taking up less room in a pocket. and bare in mind i was iphone all the way when i first started my contract 7 years ago

Just got the Motorola Razr plus . Love it ! Just a few things I need to get use to after using an iPhone mini for years. People who have iPhones are having a hard time sending me pictures or voice messages. And my sound randomly gets lower when I'm watch a video or listening to a podcast.

My Fold 4 is one of the most durable phones I think I have ever had.. Dropped it plenty of times onto concrete.. Fell in a river and sat underwater for about 10 minutes til I found it. Has been thrown into a tree.. No cracked screen, only small nicks and scratches.. Everything still works flawless. I am very impressed tbh.. I will be buying another Fold series phone when this one is spent. But I do not see that happening anytime soon.

I want it because of being able to limit apps on the small screen meaning I will check a message and not get sucked in to doom scrolling. I have a perfectly good phone now (S22 Ultra) But I've ordered this purely for this feature. I think the S22u has a better camera and storage as well. But the less distracting phones are a huge perk these days.

I have the flip5 and it feels so good in your hands couldn't be happier. To utilize main cameras on the front screen puts out such good photos! I've never been a selfie person but I've taken tons with this phone already. It's too fun!

I bought the Z Flip 5 today and already love it. I never saw a reason to buy a foldable, but was searching for feature phone that runs android (something that doesn't seem to exist). And somehow the Flip 5 provides just that: when folded, it's like a feature phone, but with all the possibilities of a fully fledged smartphone. The closed version is enough for most of my tasks: timers, stopwatch, controlling deezer or running a youtube music video. And it's really nice to be able to do that one-handed. I'm not on social media, rarely use the phone camera, most of the time I'm using the phone as a mp3-player. And scrolling through large web pages or watching a longer video, I can still just open it and have a much bigger screen.

My favourite thing about the form factor is how easy it is to get really low angle photos

Sir I'm with you on the Flip phones. I am proudly admiting I'm going from an S23 Ultra to a cream Flip 5. I'm not getting rid of the S23 Ultra, because that would be dumb, but I'm am changing to the Flip lol.

I thought of the zflip 5 but was not willing to shell out that kind of cash on a phone when the samsung a54 was just fine. I got that one instead and its actually not too bad. Handles alot of games well even plays ps2 which is cool. Such a good choice coming from a iPhone 12.

I have the Flip 5 in lavender and its great. The flex screen is amazing, i use it to browse Facebook and watch videos. I've always had Samsung's and this one is the best one I've had 😍

I have the z fold 3 got it when launched live when it's closed it's thin 1 hand use is great then when at airport or waiting somewhere open it up and have big screen love it

I feel like 5 generations in, it should be better. The screen has not gotten much better year over year and it still feels almost in development versus a fully baked flagship. Like you said $1000 is not cheap but not crazy expensive, for someone who odds are would only buy one phone every two to three years it is a hard sell to not get the candy bar flagship whether it is Android or iOS. I am sure your main photo camera is the iPhone mini and same for video. It feels like a party trick and while It may technically be smaller when folded length wise but not thickness, I just don't see the point for the flip but see more real world application for the fold. Either way I feel like we are 5 years out from a truly good experience with folding phones.

I'm a bit ocd so the crease is probably the reason holding me back from getting the flip phone. I did consider it though, but when my trade in ended up only like $150 difference between S23 Ultra vs the Flip, I'm going with the Ultra until that flip technology gets better. On a nostalgic factor, I like sliding phone better. It was fun to slide the phone up and down.

The problems I had with the ZFlip 3 pushed me away from foldables for the foreseeable future.

Really the only thing holding me back from getting a folding phone is the crease. I love using dark mode all the time, and that's when you see the crease the most. If they can somehow get rid of the crease lines completely I'd totally jump on the folding phone train. But until then, I'll just use a physically smaller phone to use with a single hand.

I still think that having a separate screen on each side of the hinge would do much better than a single bendable screen. Then you can have a more durable phone with screens that won't be destroyed within a year.

I would argue that the OPPO Find N2 or the Pixel Fold are the better foldable’s. They are in the middle between folds and flips offering compact but a larger tablet display when opened. I did have the Flip3 to see what the fuss was, but opening and closing became a chore rather than a pleasure and the cons were far more than the pros (are there any pros?). But, the Flip mines the eccentric user, the trendy and the bored, so they have a place in the smartphone market, and maybe they will lead to something that will interest me down the line. Though I am not sure Samsung will be the one to push the flip market.

I had the a z flip 3. Replaced 3 screens due to “screen protector”lifting and dead pixels. I had it for about 4-5 months max. I can’t do that again. I absolutely love the idea of a foldable because I hate big ass phones.

I can get behind foldables on principle, but the drawbacks just aren’t worth it for me The crease alone is more that I’m willing to put up with EDIT: I almost got gaslighted by the replies into thinking they somehow made the crease invisible with the new Flip I happened to be around an electronics store today so I went to check out the Flip 5 in person and yeah, I know I’m looking for it so it’s more evident but it’s really disingenuous to say “you can’t see it”… It’s only gonna get worse with age too, the more you open and close the phone the deeper and more evident that crease is gonna get So yeah, deal breaker not for thee but for me - and that’s okay. I’m just not the target audience

Got the Zflip 4 from my cell phone company and I'm on my second one now. First one had the screen and hinge break after a very short fall onto the floor. Now my second one I have had less than a year already has the screen protector your not supposed to remove starting to peel at the crease. I like the folding of it but I am afraid of what its going to look like next year when I am supposed to return this phone in good condition when my contract time is up.

Im still using the Lg V60 dual screen. Having 2 screens is definitely helpful and i couldnt go back to just 1. Still holding out for a foldable screen that i like.

I can wholeheartedly agree in the Flip phone movement, switched to the Z Flip 4 early this year and have been in love with it ever since, it's just satisfying, a breath of fresh air than your typical "slab of glass" phones.

I love small, easy to hold/ use devices also. I love the iPhone mini’s but to me the best phone ever would be an iPhone SE with a full edge to edge screen. I still have an iPhone 7 that I use from time to time just because I love the thin, lightweight with rounded edges and no glass back.

I loved my Fold 2, but it broke prematurely. I had planned on buying another (used) and getting a warranty for it. Unfortunately, I couldn't, at the time, find one cheaper than just getting the screen replaced ($600). I ended up picking up a used S21 Ultra for $240 until I find a fold 2 cheaper. I'm not sure I want to go back, though 😮😅

I have the Fold 4 and I don't know that I'll ever be able to go back to a normal slab phone. I am however thinking I'll try the Pixel Fold 2 when it comes out and they work out some kinks. I prefer the passport aspect ratio, and its truly the only thing I dont like about my Z fold that I have now

I went from the Flip 3 to the Razr+. I'm getting good photos. Not good on stills is kind of an exaggeration IMO. I'm interested to see how it is after some time passes. Will there be screen protector issues like I had with my Flip 3.

been using the flip also since the first one and I will never go back. I have no had any problems with the screens breaking or anything going wrong except the screen protector on the flip 3 kepts coming off. I'm on the 5 now and love it. I don't live on my phone so it being folded up and small and out of the way is great. fits everywhere easily. the 5's bigger external screen was needed for so long. the older external screens where mostly useless.

Using it for me is a reminder of my first flip phone who was the Samsung sgh-e700....ah nostalgie...

As someone who made the switch from iPhone to the fold 4 last year , thw form factor is my biggest thing that I love. I spent so much time watching movies , TV shows and RU-vid on my phone that I always just used the iPhone Plus/Max phone which were cool until you have this big heavy phone bulging out ur pocket. Being able to have a skinny screen and an large screen all in one is what made me make thw switch. The battery life certainly isn't thw greatest but the functionality of it is top tier.

I've been thinking about this phone forever and I just bought it. It's just so cute and I love flip phones and miss them. I'm excited to use this phone and I think I will love it

This year I'm switching from a Z Fold 3 to a Z Flip 5. It should be coming in today and I can't wait. It's not the best in any normal phone category but it seems like the best fit for me.

My Z Flip 4 fell down two meters onto a concrete floor. It had a protective case around it and came out completely unscratched. The combination of good case with the small weight and clamshell design is likely what saved it.

I still have my Z Flip 3, it does have 2 very tiny spots, but I only use it now for my music, I don’t fold it anymore just to avoid any more damage but I will wait at least 2 more Z Flips before I get it again, I still love the idea of a Flip smartphone

I tried it out in Best Buy, but I don't like that crease when it's fully open, it's just an annoying feeling on the screen when you touch it in that area. Until they can do better hard pass on any folding phones.

I’ve always wanted a flip but for me the calling has always been the Fold. I held off on folding until the Fold3 specifically because I wanted S Pen. Now I’m not updating fold until the camera reaches flagship S series status. I also carry an iPhone 14 Pro but that’s just for ease of work life. And the mustache isn’t a bad look. Do what makes you feel good yo.
