I started this channel because I wanted other working moms, nurses, nurse practitioner students, nursing students, and whoever else to know that you CAN do school, life and work! I’d love to hear your stories of how you combine your personal interests with your family life! You are doing great things, and I hope you remember that!
Nursing school and NP school is very overwhelming, and I got so many messages from people being concerned that they will fail nursing or np school and don’t want to start because of that. In this video I’ll walk you through my mentality regarding that and how I worked through feeling like I couldn’t do nursing school either.

I can do hard things! I left an abusive husband and started with nothing to my name in 2017. Now I have completed my BSN, bought my own house, furnished said house and life, paid off my car, funding my retirement and have been accepted into grad school. NP school here I come 😊

I didn’t get into nursing school the first time I applied. I was devastated. Switched my major to engineering - lol no. But I knew in my heart I wasn’t ready to give up. Had to retake some classes but I got into another school later on that year. I graduated in December and am now a NICU nurse and I’m glad I didn’t give up! We can do hard things!

I needed this today. I’m 34 and finally quit my job of 10 years to go back to school to become a nurse. I’m terrified of failing, but I’m more tired of staying in a position I’m miserable at for the rest of my life. yes! This is exactly how I feel. Things about nursing school and nursing scare me, but not as much as the thought of continuing to feel unfulfilled, bored, boxed in & miserable in the same old same old jobs for the next 35+ yrs of my life scares me!

I'm 35, 3 kids and a granchild on the way. Been in customer service for over 10 yrs and tired of being in a job that I dont love. I am scared of not having what it takes, but I know that if God brings me to it He can get me through it. We got this!

I was 24 when I got into my associates degree nursing program and Y'ALL the oldest in my cohort was 60, there was a few in their 40s and lots in their 30s. I know it's daunting to go back to school later in life (I've started grad school in my 30s) but believe me it's not too late and you bring life experience that a 20 year old just doesn't have yet. 🙌🏼

I didn't make A's in anatomy and microbiology my freshman year, I didn't get into the nursing program, changed my major because I thought I wasn't good enough to be a nurse, and after graduating I realized that I shouldn't have given up on myself so I applied to a different nursing program....and I didn't get in. Now I'm retaking anatomy and micro and reapplying. It's scary, hard, intimidating, and SO emotional and I am drowning in self doubt everyday, but I rewatch this video (like every other week haha) and remind myself that Liz is totally right: I CAN DO HARD THINGS! WE CAN DO HARD THINGS! You can conquer little obscacles one at a time, look back at your why, and realize I DID THAT! Thank you Liz for providing a platform for us to get supported, and support eachother ❤️

I finished nursing school at 35. I’m going back for my BSN at 38. I never thought I’d be where I am. I saw all the requirements, the curriculum, the syllabus, the time required for studying and I was overwhelmed. My why was for myself and my children. I wanted it and they deserved it. I never thought I could and I did. I made it and I’m still going. ✨

I always tell my friends wanting to go to nursing school to set theirselves up for success. Make sure you don’t have a bunch of bills, you’re able to work minimal hrs, cut down on any bills that you can, have back up baby sitters and so on. If you have a plan to help you be successful in nursing school it helps. I didn’t want to stress about bills while in nursing school so I made sure to pay things off before starting and saving up money for emergencies and working PRN (as needed) while in school so I would have a flexible work schedule around school. Good luck! You can do it! :)

FNP student here, mom of two, ministry leader and full time RN in Oncology! I recently had surgery and the day after was my retake of my comprehensive H&P and I bombed it. I had no time to study or practice the full head to toe due to prepping for my surgery and coping with the fact I had cervical CA. I was so nervous and in pain during the exam that I forgot the list of lymph nodes y'all!! Nurse Liz I was feeling so discouraged, because this one exam held me back a WHOLE YEAR I have to retake Advance Phys Assessment next Fall!! But I can do hard things because at least I tried in my weakened state and I wanted to QUIT but I'm gonna slay it next Fall! #ClassOf2022 I sure need a pep talk.

I have been putting off nursing school/college for a long time just making excuses for myself and why I can't do this. I have finally made myself come to term that even though it may be overwhelming and I will struggle I need to do this for myself and my family. I was an ok student before nursing school. I was totally scared to start and I ended up surprising myself. I got straight As, and the highest test scores in my cohort. I don’t say this to brag, I say this to encourage!! You obviously don’t have to get straight As, but when you jump in and you’re all in, you really find out what you can do

I have a bachelors degree in neuroscience and psychology, and I started college believing that I was stupid because that’s how all my old friends made me feel. I start nursing school on Thursday and this was so relevant to me. You’ve helped push me to apply and to accept my seat because even though it’s going to be hard, the schooling I’ve already endured was hard too. Amazing video, thanks so much for this, I was just recently accepted, but there’s a lot of doubt in my mind because I hear people around me saying it’s gonna be really difficult, but my mom always says nothing in life worthwhile as ever easy (so true). I’ve been a Veterinary nurse for 17 years, I’m in my 30’s so I may have a lot more responsibility than the average person but I feel it’s all about making sure to stay on top of my assignments and having a good time management skills! I’m just going to say it. Every single thing you said in this video is me 100%. I am 38 and just now applying to nursing school because I allowed myself to be scared for so many years. I told myself I was too dumb to go to college, go to nursing school and beyond. I went back to school during the pandemic and got my AS degree and decided it’s now or never and I want to be a role model for my children. To show them even if you fail, at least you tried. I needed this! I started off in nursing and was so discouraged by my anatomy class I studied something else completely. After getting my bachelors and working with it as a teacher I knew in my heart that helping others through nursing is what I want to do with my life. I retook anatomy 1 & passed fine. I never thought I wanted to be a nurse. The first 19 years of my life I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian and I was hardcore pursuing that. I got a job at a vet office and I realized that I liked what vet techs do and the vets do a lot of walking in, diagnosing, and delegating to the vet techs. Realizing I liked what vet techs did is what made me look into nursing and I fell in love with the NICU. So I wanted to add: Don’t give up on your dreams, BUT it is okay if your dreams change!

I honestly cannot thank you enough for your videos. I’m 42 and have been in banking since I’ve been old enough to work. I recently realized that I don’t want to do this for the next 25ish years, and I want to be a Nurse Practitioner. So, here I go. 42, back to school, and scared as hell. Your videos are so helpful, and have helped me believe that I can do this. Because of you I feel like I’m going into it more prepared and better informed. Hi Liz, This video was much needed, thank you for posting! I am applying to nursing school this year. I am currently finishing up my prerequisites. I have such a low self-esteem and confidence is something I've always struggled with. Becoming a nurse is what I feel in my heart that I'm meant to do. However, fear is really making me doubt myself. I fear that I won't be a competent nurse, or I won't be able to work under pressure. I fear making the wrong decisions as a nurse and possibly hurting a patient. I fear that I will be "too slow" at work. I wonder if anyone else has these same fears. I have constantly ask myself if I have what it takes to pursue this profession. But I do know if I never try, I will beat myself up. I don't want my future children to know I was too afraid to try and achieve my dreams, I want to set an example for them. This video really did help me reflect on myself and I will be writing down my fears so I can really evaluate things. Thank you Liz! Looking forward to more videos.

Starting my pre-reqs for nursing school tomorrow! I’m taking 10 credits while keeping my full time job, so I’m a little afraid. Taking things in bite size pieces is amazing advice! In my planner, I only plan out my current week (except exams - I write those down each month). I make a to do list every day and check off each little thing throughout the day. This has helped to keep me on track and not feeling super overwhelmed all the time.

I moved to US when I was 15. I learned English. Graduated high school with 4.0 GPA on top of my class. I’m currently doing nursing prerequisites & I definitely needed to hear this today! I’ve already graduated with one Bachelor’s degree. I lived in South America for a year and a half. I’ve learned to love & respect myself while supporting a loved one through their substance dependency & recovery. I’ve trained and ran multiple half marathons. I studied my butt off to become an EMT. Thank you. thank you! That was the only RU-vid video I needed to watch today. You lifted my spirits and gave the tools I needed to get over the pile of stress on my head. I am definitely my own harshest critic but I can do hard things. I have had two babies and I completed my prerequisites for a RN program. I am finally, two years later, going into a LVN program and I could not be more excited to actually start this journey. I hope we all encourage each other! Definitely needed to hear this today. I started my 2nd semester of nursing school and am 1000% stressed and overwhelmed. Nursing school alone is hard but nursing school during a pandemic is next level crazy. My school is doing a hybrid set up so we’re half in person and half online. I absolutely hate online classes and don’t learn well through them, so it’s been a struggle for me. Definitely needed a pep talk today. Thank you!

So happy to have found your channel! Long story short, I majored in nursing for my first 2 years of college but didn’t feel smart enough so I changed majors. Fast forward 10 years later, I’m a teacher and i don’t feel passionate about it and have ALWAYS regretted not being a nurse. I’m 27 & thinking about going back to try again, but 100% nervous bc it’s sounds scary and also, I’m 27. I know that’s not old, but I definitely feel behind in life if I go back. I love this video, Liz! I’m 8 months into my BSN program & this last week was BUSY! Skills check offs, exams, papers & life! But, I can do hard things. You just have to take one day at a time, one assignment at a time & one exam at a time. I needed to hear all the things you said.

thank you for this video! started my first semester of nursing school last week and already having those doubts of if i’m going to do well enough. it was so nice reading the comments and seeing so many people graduate and overcome life circumstances. in the middle of it it’s hard to see the end picture

I needed this! I start my classes up again next week and I was really considering taking this semester off since I have to do ELearning with both my boys (2nd grade and special ed Pre-K) but these are my last two prereq classes before starting nursing school so I want to knock them out but hoping I’m not taking on to much... i love the phrase we can do hard things. You say it in your vlogs a lot and I love it 🥰 thanks for this video!

I needed to hear this, it's the first week of my third year in Nursing. And I'm really overwhelmed by all the talks about how third year is the hardest and the topics, skills I have to learn. Your advice to take this journey into bite size pieces and have a picture of why I choose Nursing is a great idea. Thank you!🥰❤

This couldn't have come at a better time! I have hustled these past two years getting all my prereqs done while working full time and next Monday I start the nurse-y portion of nursing school... There's been this little voice all summer long telling me that I wouldn't be able to make it once the "real" nursing classes begin. But you're right: I can do (and have done) hard things. Thank you for all that you do! I am so grateful for your content.

I'm currently on my last prerequisite class (anatomy & physiology) then I plan on applying to the OTA program in my area. I've been holding off taking this class for a while now because I've heard how difficult the class is and basically just out of fear of the class. This morning I was praying and telling God that maybe this career path isn't for me...if I can't handle A&P then how will I ever make it through the OTA program THEN I found your video. I think God is saying "gurrrl get off your butt and stop fearing the unknown" lol. Anyways, this video really spoke to me. I've gone through a lot hard things in my life (I'm 48yrs old by the way) and this is just another stepping stone to a better life.

this time last year my grandma was dying of cancer and i was there at her house taking care of her. it’s where i learned that uh-oh, business school, which i was going into senior year of, isn’t for me. i realized i want to be a hospice nurse. so far i’ve dealt with the grief of losing my best friend/person who raised me with my mom, just about finished business school, and i decided i AM going to be a nurse so i’ve taken a bunch of pre-recs along with my business classes. this summer i think i’ll get a 4.0 in psych, bio, and chemistry!! i am so proud of myself and this shit is HARD. thank you for reminding me i can do hard things!

I've dealt with so many hardships in my life BUT this made me stronger, a fighter! Currently first year second semester of my nursing degree. The studying does challenge me, in the most positive way! It's hard work but I know I can! Thank you Liz, for reminding me not to give up, unless you tried and didn't work ❤️❤️❤️

Yep, me too. Waiting to hear if I get into an ABSN program. The start to undergrad was a little rocky. So definitely not a shoo in. Even if I don't get in, I can live with knowing I gave it my all. Just means I need a new plan. And yes, I am terrified. But I'm more afraid of looking back on my life and regretting not trying. Liz, you are so authentic. You are so in your element when you have these chats. You are definitely onto something. ♥️

Thank you Liz! I've been considering nursing for the last two years, I have a CPC certification and it's just simply never worked out for me to work as a medical coder. The desire to be an RN has been on my mind since I was 22 and I'm finally looking at pre requisites for Spring 2021. I really appreciate all the information you have and it's been a huge help in making the decision to finally go for it!

Hey Liz, I just found your channel today, where have I been?! Your words really helped me to feel proud of myself. I start nursing school in less than a week and I have kind of been freaking out. It took me three years to finish my prereqs, so I definitely lost some of my excitement for core classes. Now that I am finally here I am equally terrified as I am excited. I’ve been watching this video when feelings of imposter syndrome sneak in since term 1 of nursing school. I now am getting ready to graduate in 8 weeks and here I am listening to it again on a break from studying for an exam. Apply and take the chance. You really can do hard things 💜

Liz!!! You have inspired me so much! I have always been told all my life that nursing wasn't right for me, and had heard so many scary "horror" stories of why I shouldn't pursue it...but...I have always loved walking into hospitals, loved working in teams, and loved working in a fast pace environment...and also loved healthcare of course. I considered working as an occupational therapist, and may still consider that career, but I know I can do hard things! I got my biology major, started working as a science teacher with no master's degree on a restricted license (due to huge lack of teachers), and am having to make the curriculum for the year! Anyways, thank you for being you and making your videos. :) I'm now much more excited about looking into nursing.

CW//: Suicide and mental illness So semi-story: I am a nursing student going into their last year. I repeated the first semester of my bachelors program three times due to hospitalizations from suicide attempts after the stress of college and life. I've always struggled with mental illness and have been stuck in school *WAY* too long because of it. Therapists and advisors have recommended that I consider pursuing a career less stressful than this. Truthfully, suffering through stress for so long has given me resilience that I needed for nursing. My love of people, their biology, their humanity, and the nursing practice is greater than my fear of failure. Even if in the end I change paths, this has given me invaluable life lessons. Be strong everyone; our love of helping people is the foundation of a great nurse even during COVID. Thank you Nurse Liz. :]
