I'm on Observation Duty 

Some notes from a seasoned Observation Duty player: The gongs ascertain to the time (one gong is 1am, two gongs is 2am, etc) - the goal is to last until 6am FNAF style, so the gongs just remind you of how long you've got left and add some ambience. The alert warning you of your impending doom means that there are three anomalies that haven't been reported, and it's game over once there are four active. The alert only appears once, even if later in the game you reach the same critical point, so use that warning wisely and use that report button! You had the right idea banging out reports like missing/moving objects in rooms with lots of small items which could be easy to miss; there are no penalties for logging false reports. HOWEVER, the reports pend a lot faster in this version, but they take longer in the earlier games. If you play any of those, be careful not to spam the reports and to save them for when you're semi-certain you've spotted an anomaly, I can't tell you how many times I lost because there was already a report pending and I spotted something too late that wrecked me. Look out for the camera malfunctions, those are easy to miss. Sometimes entire rooms will disappear, so count the rooms every so often to make sure they're all still there. The "other" anomaly at 28:50 was the floor tiles, they changed from the usual small squares to larger squares. Very easy to miss, lucky report! The death at 30:57 was caused by distortion, that's a hard death to avoid since you'd assume it would be logged as a camera malfunction, but by the time you go to log another report it's too late - just one of those things you learn as you play. Abyss presences are essentially black holes that spread across a room, and if they aren't reported quickly it's an automatic game over like the distortion. They're pretty easy to spot, they grow quite fast. Getting all the way to 5am is actually pretty impressive on only your second run, so well done! Observation Duty is simple but surprisingly hard and tense. I hope you play more of it in the future, especially the first game, I have a soft spot for that one since I watched the Game Grumps play it which got me to buy the game myself. The third game is free roam, which would make for a good video I think, it looks way scarier since you're actually in the house!

_* Literally nothing changes *_ Mark: *ABYSS PRESENCE?!*

For those curious, the anomalies that Mark missed are: 2:13 - in the study, the chair on the right has turned to the left (his brightness is low so it's hard to see) 5:52 - a cup has appeared on the table to the left of the bed 9:10 - his "noise anomaly" is a distortion; the room is slowly stretching (points for trying, Mark) 13:12 - in the living room, there were three boxes against the wall to the right of the window. The top box is now missing (also hard to see with his low brightness) 13:54 - the skull on the wall above the bed is missing 17:43 - in the library, there was a box to the right of the lion that is now missing 28:13 - the locker door on the right was not open before 30:39 - unfortunately, that was a *distortion* anomaly. Also unfortunately, that one will kill you if you don't report it fast 40:01 - the floor pattern in the office has changed 41:13 - for all of about three frames, you can see a picture anomaly in the office before it's game over For this extra curious, the anomalies that Mark caught without realizing: 22:21 - the chair in the back of the jail has moved from the left to the right. Mark gets this one by pure happenstance at 23:05 when he thinks a bottle has moved instead. 28:01 - the floor tiles in the bathroom have changed their pattern. Mark lucks into this at 28:44 when dealing with his rogue fire extinguisher. 32:50 - Mark's correct assumption of "object disappearance" was the office chair in the very back 33:24 - Mark has correctly guessed that the objects on the bench have disappeared 33:52 - the "object movement" that Mark lucked into was the brochures on the top shelf in the hallway (caught at 33:58) 34:08 - the "extra object" was an apple on the desk to the right 34:51 - the boxes on the right of the hallway have disappeared. Mark accidentally stumbles into it *two whole minutes later* at 36:56 39:09 - there is an extra bench in the back left of the locker room. Mark blindly guesses this one a minute later.

I lost it when mark turned up the brightness and half the room appeared 😂

The room: completely distorts Mark: this can only be described as a camera malfunction

mark: hey i’d like to report a fire extinguisher stretching into the ceiling anomaly repair team: okay we fixed the tiles mark: the what?

They should add a thing where at the end you get to see the anomalies that you missed. Highlighting the anomaly type, and showing what the room should look like

the most gut wrenching feeling in this game is when you think you’ve noticed something different, so you report it, an anomaly is fixed, and it wasn’t what you reported…….

This game actually takes advantage of a perceptual phenomenon called "Change blindness", when even if there are huge changes or small changes, the observer does not notice a different due to not seeing the picture for a split second, for example if it were to turn to a black screen or another area for just a few moments, unless they're actively focusing something specific

"Why y'all looking at me CHAIRS?" *remembers all the abuse Mark has inflicted on chairs* I think you know Mark

A quick tip is when you see a ghost, intruder, distortion, and abyss presets you don’t wanna stay on that spot for too long or else you’ll get killed

Game: “one needs sharp eyes and good memory to survive” Mark: “serve” *scratches head*

40:07 Mark: "Ok, let's look for any obvious ones..." Game: Time to be an ass.

Sean: absolutely perceptive, with some mistakes, only reporting when absolutely necessary Mark: REPORT AWAY EVERYTHING! THAT NAPKIN LOOKED FUNNY!

Mark: "Was is bright outside?" Also Mark: *Chooses object movement*

Just imagine Mark looking at everything in his house after this like: "Was that always like that?"

Alternative title: Mark gaslights himself into thinking the smudges on his monitor are shadow people for 40 minutes.

Once again, Mark surprises us with his lack of visual spotting abilities, but proceeds to blind guess the anomalies correctly

Mark: reports anomal(ies) 2 seconds later: Foundation MTF runs in, beats up ghosts, and resets furniture

Game: “One needs sharp eyes and good memory to survive” Mark: “I’m in danger”

I’d like to imagine that every time an anomaly is fixed, a task force of super buff dudes rush in and beat up the ghost and or fix the problem

Mark: "Three soap dispensers, two urinals hiding in the shadows, and one slightly shiny thing there!" Me: *_and a partridge in a pear tree?_*

11:28 Incredible how the Game Grumps have put hours into the Country House without the painting in the bedroom ever changing on them but Mark sees it on his first go round.

The amount of Marks thinking that you can physically observe is astounding. Like you can physically see the sanity leaving his body ever so slowly. His mind is literally making him see things.

It's absolutely the worst when you confidently file a report for an anomaly, but another anomaly is fixed, that you didn't see nor can think what it was, and the first anomaly is still standing there, menacingly.

I love how immediately after mentioning that object disappearance was a thing, the deer skull on the wall was gone and he didn't notice. Edit: Just so everyone knows. I mean no disrespect to Mark. I just thought the timing was hilarious.

It's comforting to see that, over the years of Mark's "Let's Play" videos, that very little has changed. A new game appears, peaks Mark's interest, and he gives it a shot. He then proceeds to somehow push through undaunted, even though he either plays the game WILDLY incorrectly, has very little understanding of how the game is intended to be played until a little before of after halfway through the video, or overlooks key elements that will make the game play so much easier on him. He always manages a victory through sheer willpower, amazing hair, random noises and ramblings, luck, and/or fearful confusion alone. We love you, Mark.

Out of all observation duty games, he probably started with the most difficult. Out of the ones I've seen other ytbers play, this is by far the most subtle. I think he'd enjoy 1 or 2 a lil more.

I was playing this game and streaming it on discord for my friends. Everything in this game didn’t bother me except when all the chairs in the conference room turned to face me. That, for some reason, was extremely unsettling.

This game can be summed up in two sentences. "Dammit, the abyss is here again. And the ghost knocked over my coffee cup."

I love how this game doesn't have a tutorial or anything. It adds to the scary aspect of it

i love how he's not hesitant to just try to sent a bunch of reports cause there's no punishment for wrong guesses here and that's a nice strategy when you dont know what's going on and other people playing do not always do that

This actually made me genuinely uncomfortable and uneasy while watching it, something about just not knowing what's changed and like becoming blind to the little differences really spooked me

This game like legit just terrifies me even though I’m just watching it, like I watched Slimecicle (different youtuber) play “I’m on Observation Duty 3” instead of 4 and it stressed me out so much but somehow this one was so much worse because the anomalies were a lot less frequent.

i'd love to see him play more of any of the Observation Duty games, ngl i feel like once he knew what to look for and what certain things would fall under, he'd do a lot better! something that could definitely help would be staying on each cam a bit longer, bc with this sort of game it's pretty unlikely to catch everything with just a brief glance but anyways, i'd love to see more! absolutely love this game.

This game is exactly like my old securty job: working overnight monitoring an entire building where the only occupant is myself. Only difference being I didn't have the luxury of monitoring cameras, no if heard a noise I had to physically go over there and investigate. I hated it. It was an old building that allegedly had a history.

Mark, I know global warming is a thing, but you can't classify snowfall as an anomaly yet. That does still happen at times! I also would just start reporting stuff in random rooms because I do not know what could be happening. The wet floor sign moving AFTER Mark reported a movement was super great btw. And the Fire Extinguisher thing too. They're just like 'yah, fixed that' and it wasn't the fire extinguisher!

The problem with finding anomalies is that each time you miss one, you reinforce the changed room as normal in your brain. Then if it gets caught when viewing another camera (like with the routine checks), the reset room will now not line up with the one you remember, and will appear anomalous, distracting you once again... from the man in your closet...

It's interesting to see how paranoia and the constant thought of something, anything could be happening can cause someone to see things or be so sure about something when it's nothing. Even just in a video game

how did nothing in the game catch me off guard, but when confetti is edited into the video it jumpscares me out of my chair

The most screwed up part that makes this game so spooky is when it detects an anomoly and you literally didn't see it and can't see it even when you go back to the previous frame. It's like gaslighting, the game edition in horror mode.

Some of the little things that happen in this game that are hard to notice are the fan will switch directions, one of the cameras will disappear and then sometimes furniture will slightly move a different direction or an object like a lamp or a plant will switch places with another one. So when I play this, I really study every room and pay extra attention to the way that the objects are facing or the paintings because those switch a lot also. The camera disappearances the super subtle ones so if you're not really paying attention you can definitely miss that one and they usually do it once or twice a game . Just some little tips for anybody who might play. There's also mobile version

Out of all of mark’s jumps scares I’ve seen in 4+ years they have never gotten me but the dump confetti cannon pop at 32:29 made me jump like a cat with a cucumber. Well played.

The funniest part is that Insym figured out that the more you false-report the more anomalies appear, so if he'd just sit and look for stuff happening his nights would be a little calmer. Obviously this only changes the game a small bit, The usual anomaly amount is 24-26 and when insym report spammed (like every second he could, he would report) he got 33 anomalies, so yeah, I imagine that mark is just making his life a little harder xD

Such a cool game. First horror game in a very long time that genuinely freaked me out.

Mark managed to miss most of the really jarring jumpscares purely by luck. Hopefully he'll play this again sometime, along with the others in the series. They're very good at forcing you to concentrate, really close-up to the screen, with nothing happening 90% of the time...and then BAM. They're also good to stream if you need audience participation...assuming you can trust your viewers, of course...

This game should be called Slowly Descending into Paranoia! I love how Mark would catch some tiny things that I didn't even notice but miss HUGE things like the locker door being open or the deer skull over the bed vanishing. The fact that each location has so many rooms is what seems to make this so hard well that and the fact that there are so many things that could be different. I normally really like spot the difference games but this one is a bit too complex in my opinion. But I guess that's what makes it so paranoia inducing.

this game makes me so uneasy. every time i'll scan the room, panicking from the fear I'll see something that's not supposed to be there. this is the type of game the messes with your mind, throwing you into hysterics even when nothing's happening. well done to the devs

I think the scary part was how incredibly quiet the game was. In most common horror games there is always a very sleight low octave undertone to the soundtrack.
