All the reasons you mentioned about this Crosstrek that you did not like, well, those are the reasons I like this car! It's simple, basic, no fancy technology and the manual transmission is challenging in a way that you have to actually pay attention to the shifting from 1st to 2nd to get it just right and not get the dreaded rev hang. I could not be happier with it!
@sunset3052
@sunset3052 Год назад
Totally agree with you. I bought a 2023 Sports (CVT), now my brother in law's driving it. I'm not a fan of CVT and thinking to get a 6-sp manual and I love the simplicity of the car, fewer issues.
@Bob-Maplethorpe
@Bob-Maplethorpe Год назад
In Canada, the manual comes as a Sport option, which has a sunroof and bigger touch screen. Manual would be a problem in constant heavy traffic, but not for me. I found I got used to clutch and rev hang. My brain just adapted and added gas differently on shifting.
@sunset3052

@@Bob-Maplethorpe I bought a 2023 6-sp manual a few weeks ago. I'm sort of used to the rev hang now. I notice that if I let go the gas for a split second and then step on the clutch, it's much better, where my other older manual sports car (NA) doesn't have rev hang issue. Just filled up the tank 1st time yesterday. I get about 28-29mpg, city/hwy combined, real happy so far. Planning to keep it for many years as long as it doesn't give me major issues. It's sad that many car makers not selling manual cars in the US.
@drn13355
@drn13355 Год назад
One issue with manuals is hardly anyone in the USA even knows how to drive them. It can kill resale on them. Back in the day everyone could drive them, but try to find someone in their 20s who can even drive then In the US. The pool of people to sell it to is very small. I love MTs, but I also love being able to sell it when done with it.

I just bought a 2023 Subaru Forester which only comes with an automatic CVT. My salesman told me he used to drive a manual transmission Subaru but it was getting hard on his knees specially in stop-and-go traffic.

I'd love to see the Crosstrek with a 2.5 and 6MT. Been on the fence about buying one, but going to get an Outback instead for the additional room for the family. Thanks for the video, Felix.

I also live in NYC metro area, i also moved here from Europe (Spain) and i also drive a 2023 Crosstrek 6MT but I'm use to the traffic and stop and go. I've had other manuals while in the States (GTI, 3 Series and Hyundai Elantra GT aka i30) I had an Alfa 4C for a few years which had a DTC that I absolutely hated on that car lol. Manuals are just more engaging I agree that the gearbox on the Trek is a bit wonky to get use to. I bought it strictly as a winter car/baby hauler and wanted a bulletproof transmission. (My mother in law has a 2017 Trek with CVT and it's very slushy, I hate it! Also I agree with you on 4 way stops, wished USA adopted more roundabouts! 🤣

Specifically bought a base model in manual to avoid the CVT... They're probably okay as long as you have a warranty

Starting in the 2024 model year Subaru no longer offers a manual on the Crosstrek. And from what I was told the 2024 comes standard with steering responsive headlights.

Yes I think so, not possible with the manual gearbox however. If I’d got the Limited CVT I’d probably still have it :)

I have to agree and disagree with you. About the way the car shifts, it is quite difficult to master but mine has 37,000 miles and I keep getting better at it, now its one of the things I enjoy the most (the mastery it requieres to smoothly row gears in this car) but I can undestand it not being everyones cup of tea. Equipment-wise, I guess the manual has just the equiment needed without any extra bells and whistles, for me it is perfect I hate cars full of electronic gizmos and giant screens that can fail at any time. Plus as awesome as Eyesight is, for me having a manual is about driving the car, so it kind of defeats the purpose if you add lane watch, lane centering, blabla. Anyway cheers on your new ride mate!

Give me a car either basics . No bells and whistles. After all the Subarus platform is the same regardless of model. You gonna find parts at any given time, easy to maintain. Reasons why I am choosing a Subie

I have bought the 2023 Crosstrek..because I did NOT want the CVT....I have had Manual cars for the past 40 years....The 2024 Subaru line up has dropped the manual gear box. As for the digital Tach not sure why you are hung up on that...I was going to wait for the 2024 Crosstrek....just seen it and its nice..but no more 6 speed..plus it keeps the same drive train...they should have made 2.5 lt engine standard on all trims...not a fan of the big infotainment screens....just more driver distraction....The changes to the body are minimal..I like the new LED lights....but the gold trim on it is horrible ..LOL

I have a base 2022 6MT Crosstrek. The rev hang on upshifts is definitely an issue for going into second and third. I wish they'd had a manual to test drive before I bought it. I'd had a 2009 Impreza for 13 years so I thought it'd be the same. I'm reasonably satisfied with the car. It's an incremental improvement from the Impreza. Stop and go traffic is a bear with a manual transmission so I understand why you'd want an automatic.
@smeag9280
@smeag9280 Год назад
I have only driven 5 speed Corollas. When I test drove the 2023 6MT Crosstrek I couldn't get it into 6th gear. The rev was hard so I think I was putting it in 4th instead. After the drive was over I could smell the clutch burn.. 5th gear felt fine at 65mph, so does it even hurt to never use 6th? I feel like I need to watch the rpms to get a feel for shifting because I didn't feel a difference until it was extreme, and the noise level in general is a bit loud so it's hard to hear the rev.
@usddcm
@usddcm Год назад
@@smeag9280 "5th gear felt fine at 65mph, so does it even hurt to never use 6th?" It'll probably kill you mileage a bit at highway speed but 6th only drops the revs by a couple hundred so probably not. 6th works fine for me but it was my first 6 speed so took some getting used to.

All my previous cars have manual transmission. I bought a new car in 2021. I was really considering to buy crosstrek with manual transmission. Thank goodness, i went with mazda 3. I have been driving my mazda 3 for two years now and it's transmission is slick and smooth, never had any issues nor complaints. Btw, subaru is discontinuing it's manual transmission on crosstrek.

Yeah, the Crosstrek six-speed takes some getting used to, but I don't regret the purchase. I haven't driven it six hundred miles yet, and it's becoming second nature. I ordered on 7 January '23 and it was at the dealership on 7 April.

@@5610winston i live in Toronto and i tell you, we have one of the worst traffic in north america, but I have never been bothered driving in manual. Actually, it is fun and engaging. @@ginocruz8220 I've driven manuals since I started learning on Dad's Studebaker and Mom's Buick. I've never bought an automatic, though I've inherited a couple. The salesman asked me why I wanted a manual when he had a dealer lot full of CVTs. "I need the exercise."

Yeah some stuffs are missing from base and touring and even outdoor, that's why I went with Crosstrek 2022 Sport, even though the power seat and moon-roof are not that much of use. Also the sound system isn't very powerful you may consider upgrading it or going with the limited edition. Anyway good luck with your next car.

The limit trim with all the bells and Whistles is a much better choice. My Girlfriend has a 2020 with the two tone leather. For her birthday I put a set of 20in polish aluminum rims on it. And it really fills in the big gap.
