FWIW, that's definitely NOT the same AWD that normal (gas powered) Subarus have. Most models of Subaru could make it up those two hills, the Soltera is a poor example of what a Subaru can do in the dirt. Even the non-turbo 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness would have made short work of either hill, in it's OEM Geolanders.

"Let's see if removing the boxer engine from a Toyota still makes it a Subaru" *that's why I subscribe* The range on this thing is the killer. 220 miles? 2 questions I always have with electric vehicles: Does the battery get a full warranty like the vehicle, and when the warranty runs out and the battery dies, how much will the consumer be screwed for the cost of a replacement, or do you just trade it in and go thru the same process again...?
@jimmurphy5355
@jimmurphy5355 Месяц назад
The battery in EVs is usually warranted for much longer than the rest of the car. Typically 8 years and 100-120 thousand miles. That said, experience is showing that the relatively big battery EVs (60+ kWh batteries) are only losing about 10-12% of range per 100,000 miles of use. Very few EVs will ever get an out of warranty battery replacement. But in the few cases such is needed, there is a developing market for used batteries pulled from cars junked for body damage. About half the cost of a brand new battery. Same idea as pulling a low mileage engine or transmission from a junked car, to make a reasonable cost repair on an older car.
@john1701a
@john1701a 25 дней назад
The battery won't die. It will lose capacity. In certain markets, Toyota's EV warranty is for 70% at 1,000,000 km (621,000 miles).

I like how technical you get and the attention you give to details other reviewers never mention. really speaks to my autistic brain :p also a little tired of always seeing men talk about cars on youtube. so im even more happy to have found this channel

For the average person that doesn't understand apexes and heel and toe... great car. For anyone that doesn't treat their car like a toaster... EV's got a LONG way to go.

Heel and toe? You might as well be talking ancient Greek to the people driving EVs. Screen size and Apple Carplay rule the day.

you sound like a dangerous driver lane assist and constant camera supervision from inside the car seems to be required for you ;) fun fact on my 3 last cars I installed plates to elevate the gas pedal you still can't heel toe as it would require a bottom linked gas pedal but I can half-half shoe alright

My $.02 …. Your scores were perhaps too generous based on your overall comments and body language during your testing🤔, even your tone of voice. And did a LARGE hot chocolate explode💥 in the engine bay! 😳

Thank you Sarah, for adding the Mi/kWh graphic for economy. It's the gold standard for comparing fuel economy on ev vehicles (in the USA at least).
@default7950
@default7950 Месяц назад
Agreed. Around town I regularly get 4.0-4.5 mi/kWh in mine, but 2.5 kWh on the highway (it happily goes 100 mph before you realize it). When people ask, I always say Subaru made it drive fantastic, but Toyota made it horribly annoying inside and out (especially the software).

@@default7950 I see between 3.3 and 3.6 on my highway warm season trips. Cold temperatures and extreme high speed will drop it lower though.

Spot-on, and wonderful review. Love the channel!!!! Long-time and current subaru owner here. Had a chance to test drive a Solterra at an event not too long ago. It's a reasonably nice car. I like where Subaru is going with the design aspect for the driver experience. The dashboard makes sense going forward for all vehicles. Forward-mounted guages are really nice and gives you a sense of more driver space. The ride was nothing to write home about outside of it felt like a regular Subaru just missing the torquey boxer engine. Accelleration was snappy enough for a regular SUV/crossover for it's class. I do agree with the general consensis about the price. If it were offered starting at 25K minimal options, no doubt EV adopters would beat a path to any Subaru dealership. +40K for a car that's just Par is not what we're really after. Par should start at 20K and move up the scale. With Chinese EVs hitting the market just a hair over 10K, no doubt we'll see some hopefully healthy competition in the coming years with lower prices, and better offerings per dollar.

Just picked up my first EV, a slightly used 2020 BMW i3 for an incredible price. So quirky, and so fun, BMW went well out of their way to make it different than your typical car. But when EV's go all-out to mimic regular cars, I think they miss an opportunity to stand out. This being an example, by trying so hard to appeal to regular car buyers, the benefit of the EV powertrain and packaging is lost.

Other than being electric, what benefits?
@GhostRyderFPV
@GhostRyderFPV Месяц назад
@@pmscalisi Clever packaging, mostly, but funky looks, suicide doors, customization of the displays and dynamics, and not sharing the architecture with an ICE car let them get away with a carbon chassis that keeps it lightweight. And with Bimmercode and an OBD2 adapter, jailbreaking it to unlock Euro features we don't get over here.
@BizaroStormy88
@BizaroStormy88 Месяц назад
The i3 died because it was fugly, nobody wants to drive a ugly "quirky" car. EVs need to look like cars, not like something a child drew. EV cars need to appeal to regular car buyers if they want to actually sell.
