DHRME is right. I have been listening to the Soundcore Q45s for the last 6 hours since the Amazon truck dropped them off. As much as I hate to say it, I like the Q45s better than the XM5s sound quality. This is after listening to the XM5 until the Q45 arrived so I would have a decent frame of referenced. Don’t be afraid to eq them. int need a bit of a boost. Adjust bass to your preference and the treble to your tolerance. That’s what worked for me. YMMV.

I agree. I didn’t like the sound of the Q45 out of the box but with the software/EQ, they sound much better. I still think I prefer the Sonys (I have the XM4, not the XM5 though) but I do not think they are 2x better as their price would indicate.

Hmmm yesterday I received the Q45. I'm afraid I'm not very happy with the initial uninspired flat sound of it. It is way worse than my Boltune bh011 anc headphones that have cost me only 30 euros (brand new). And I really wanted to like them. Can't process this because of all the reviews I've read and seen on RU-vid about the Q45. Are there software updates planned that will improve the sound quality? Or is it hardware that doesn't provide for more likeable and richer sound? I have a lot of headphones and in-ears so I can compare very well. Am gonna experiment with them, hope the hallelujah will eventually set in 😉 Can't get a proper EQ on them yet..

Awesome! This really shows what EQs can do! Both headphones are tuned very differently by default, but I also think both sound good in their own way (neither sounds perfect though). I think, by default, the XM5 have a very (too) warm sound with powerful bass, pleasant mids and somewhat shy treble, while the Q45 have good but tight bass, somewhat shouty mids and nice and clear treble. I liked sample C the best, and I'm curious what it will be! I also took part in the Twitter poll.

That is something that only the jealous say, something someone that can't afford 500 would say. I know because I feel like I would say the same thing had I bought them and thought they sound worse. However, I don't have an Xm5 to test and I can tell they are more impressive. Soundcore Q45's are impressive if you don't buy them at full price, because you can get a renewed pair of xm4's for that price often now, and they seem to sound better than xm5's to many. I have just tried the xm4's and 3's and I feel like they are going to be similar but I'm sure the xm5's probably have more clarity or depth or responsiveness if but marginally. I still think they sound bad after eq'd even compared to many other headphones, even something in the same league like the momentum 4's and most certainly the Adueze.

Pasting this comment again, want to know your thoughts guys Some advantages of the q35 over q45 - • The wear sensor weirdly exists in the older (not so older) q35 • The 3.5mm cable has an angled jack and is about 124cm long for the older one. • The q35 apparently sound very similar to the q45 (according to a review by "Brannon No D") • q35 also has NFC (idk if the q45 has it) • Also the q35 has touch control similar to the xm4 for noise cancellation/transperancy/normal • Also i get an airplane adapter in the q35 • you can get them for $89 during sale (which i did) or a regular price of $104 • Also you can use two devices in dual connect using LDAC. Some advantages of the q45 - • q45 has 3 mics and the q35 has 2 mics on each cups. • 4 hours in 4 minutes vs the 4 hours in 5 minutes of the q35 • 50 hours of total instead of 40 hours of q35. Also P.S.A - Dont plug your q35 to the airplane using the wired cable soundcore advises against that (although we get one in the box)

No way... C sounds like it's in a cup, and A is so brash and dead that there is no harmonic cooperation. D is the best in my opinion based on the fact it actually sounds like a cohesive recording, rather than someone standing beside you with a cup around a small speaker and a sub woofer 15 feet away in the other...To be honest, none of them sound good. But D is the warmest most cohesive across the board. A has clarity but it lacks harmonic resonance. Something sounds jammed into something else there...like finding a piece of plastic in an ice cream cone. If the sound stage of A wasn't so nasal, then I'd agree. D has this hiss, which you could shave off with an EQ, and push the mids up to add a bit of salt to the stage. Anyway....that's my thoughts :)

I really enjoied this blindtest. Beeing blind myself, this is right up my alley. My favorite sample is without a doubt nr. 4. 1-3 had a tinnyness to them, or tinnyness isn't the right word. sample 1-3 had something weird going on in the audio. Listen to the vocals of the woman or the contrabass in the jazzpiece, it sounds sort of......strained? Also sample 1-3 sounded very downscaled compared to number 4. The quality allmost sounded 128 kbps, but number 4 made med forget all of that. Much more air and clarity was present in that recording. Really looking forward to knowing which one number 4 is, I'm definitely choosing that one over 1-3. Please continue your great work, I listen to every video. I have one wish though. Beeing blind, I never know which headphones are playing in your samplerecordings. Could you verbally tell in which order we can expect the samples before they start playing? That would make it easier for me to know which one I might prefer. Off course this doesn't apply for this video, only future once. with that beeing said, please do more blindtests like this

Focusing on only the female voice, the tone of A - C, and B - D are the same. B - D have more spacious sounding with a quite unique stereo feeling, where I feel like mids are coming more aggressively from the right channel, compared to A - C, where mids are more balanced (Listening on Sennheiser Momentum M2s (non wireless obviously). When EQ has been used, I realized that I actually like the non equalized C (Q45) recording more than the equalized A sound, and more than the equalized Sony§s, but when it comes to rock, I prefer the XM5's sound (B - D). Still, quite an interesting sample collection, that really shows the power of EQ.

I used the liberty Pro 3 ear buds, and bang for the buck, Sound Core is great. I have the XM4, over ear, also great. I just found that Sound Core 90% is worth the savings. I struggled deciding between the Bose 700 and xm4. They are both great in different ways, 700 for the mids, and Sony for a broader range into the base. It was tough to choose. I should have gone Bose for the voice quality as that was my need, but went with the xm4s and used an external mic to off set. When I found soundcore, I was really impressed. I have external sound core speakers now, the buds, and if my xm4 die, I will give the Sound Core over ear a run. they really are 90% at half to 2/3rds the cost.

Okay so this has helped me put more of the puzzle together. The SoundCores are not good. A lot of people like them...but a lot of people like a lot of things and don't pay attention to nuance. The tinny sound that people are referring to is the cupping sound of a sound space being sculpted by the upper frequencies and almost no compression. I assume this is a two driver response. When you consider it, the bass booms in these because the bass speaker is left to rumble as it should. But the higher side of the EQ is being handled by what sounds to be, a very thin small cupped speaker, so it's almost like you've taken your hands, cupped them and then put them in front of your ears. You can hear the roundness of the acoustics bouncing your ambient sound around, thus giving you this sense of shape in term of echo location. It has a similar effect on A+C. My personal choice was D, though I wish it had more life to it. But I think D has the most cohesive mix, with warmth and organic breadth across the EQ, creating a much more harmonious soundscape, rather than 2 mis matched speakers creating a nasal LFO on the audio. Thank you so much for doing this. In fact...I wish you would do these for every earbud. I really want to hear the EQ shape and the response the best I can to understand what pair emphasizes what. But to be honest...we know what a nicely mixed action movie sounds like, or a video game. That's how music should seem as well, fully complemented, lush and precise. Not everything is an 808 generator.

This is going to be long, but I tried to be unhealthily detailed. I originally preferred B and C, and some parts of D more than A, I thought the custom eq's ones were opposite because I guess I like it closer to balance. Listening with full home theater 7.2 system, AKG k612 pro, Sennheiser Momentum 4's, and iBasso it01s to really make a good comparison. I have the theater system and headphones tuned to be more neutral right now. Feel like Sony's have a wider stage and show more details here and there when a lot is going on in the music. ---------------- My favorites: -For Jazz: 1. Sony Wh1000-Xm5 eq'd 2. Q45 soundcore signature bass up 3. Wh1000-Xm5 no eq 4. Q45 custom eq'd (Does NOT correlate to abcd) I do not like that Space Q45's custom eq, too much muddiness and warmth. I think the Space Q45 with signature bass up (stock) sound a little better than the XM5's when also not eq'd (stock). Q45 doesn't seem to have the same depth of sound as the XM5, yet thankfully no hiss. However, I think a flatter eq for both cans would still have the XM5's taking the win. Overall I felt like the Q45's sounded a bit artificial here and there, and less warm, but a little more open with small parts of the bass being more reverberating. I feel both headphones covered over the mids and even low trebble with bass, but the XM5's felt a bit more natural with some more control in the bass too. However, the piano sounded brighter on the q45's; which sort of makes up for it at times. So I think it's a more natural sound for the Sony xm5, but I'm not sure without and original recording listen with my headphones. However, for some reason, I think the xm5 recesses the piano more than the q45 does. [I think because the mids are better on the xm5, or I should say that "the low mids are raised with that ridiculous high bass", it can even muddy all the way over to that relatively accurate sounding 2-4k range. Even though, it doesn't have the same dip that the q45 has in that range, it creates a similar sound. ;-; I can definitely hear that tonality happening easily. Also, am not happy with vocals on the space Q45, as you will see next] -Acoustic vocals: Same ranking order as the previous section. I did not like the soundcore Q45's vocals here. To me, the vocals were artificial, recessed and low. I do not think it sounded dark like the stock XM5's did (fixed with eq). The q45 also didn't seem like it could keep up with the instruments (looser sound or not as responsive. Not referring to imaging, which sounded the same). Definitely liked the xm5's eq'd the most here. However, the q45 with signature sound still barely beats out the no eq'd xm5, because of the vocals 'for me.' However, if you like that bass, XM5 wins outright. -Classical: Is the same order xm5 eq'd > q45 soundcore signature > xm5 no eq > q45 custom eq. I have similar problems with the q45 as already mentioned, not as bad here though. That being said, it is pretty close to the xm5. -Rock: Same order lol I changed my mind a bit because I almost had a different ranking order. I don't mind the q45's issues as much with this section, but the recessed sounds are still so apparent. These q45's might sound less natural, but it has a slightly more fun sound. Though I prefer the guitar part on both the xm5's eq'd and without eq. The slightly more flat sound from the xm5's works against in some ways here like less fun, but still wins when eq'd. I prefer the xm5, but only a little over both of the q45 recordings with custom eq and signature sound bass up. However, using my iems and home theater setup, I got mixed signals. The guitar sounded less smooth on the it01s for the Xm5! And more smooth for the Q45's, crazy, I preferred Q45's rock section with it01s iems. (So I'm sure they both sound better irl, with only the most noticeable differences even more distinguishable, and the lesser differences even less distinguishable. I'm just postulating on conjecture). With home theater, the sibilances were weird for the xm5's as well, but not much better for the q45's. Feel like there are some quirks in sound depending on how you are listening to it for sure, but to me, I think headphones are the best way to try to compare headphones. I also believe listening through phone speakers makes the Q45 artificially sound more impressive, you don't hear as many imperfections, and so more bass & treble = more quality through cheaper speakers. -EDM: Q45 signature eq > Xm5 eq > Xm5 no eq > Q45 custom eq. Yeah, Soundcore beats Sony with EDM because it's more fun. It's less important to sound natural with edm, and artificial sound is no bother to electronic sounds. However, it depends on how you like your bass. I think kicks are better on the xm5, but more rumble on q45. Arguably, rumble is better for EDM often times, but that upper bass does bleed into the mids on the xm5. Overall for real: I think the q45's do actually pretty well in comparison. With the right tuning they could do better than here I'm pretty sure, but I think it might be hard to beat the xm5, though I don't think I like the xm5's. I do like my momentum 4's a lot more with soundID, funny enough, I literally made them sound a little flatter but open sounding just by using their pick and choose the best sound, like similar to the harman curve like sound. Now that Space Q45's have had some updates and hearID, I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy them more than ever. As a bonus comparison, I had to return the Q35 before because no matter how I eq'd it I could not enjoy them more than any pair of earbuds that I have, even the p3i when eq'd. I thought the p3i had fewer issues with sibilances and are more fun, slightly less issue with recession with better imaging and accuracy noticeably.

This part of the analysis is very difficult for me to write about since the testing was blind at first, and I'm meta analyzing the differences between what I had thought blind based on what I was told by the review and what had actually turned out to be true when unveiled. There are so many terms referencing the two different models with EQ and without, and then referencing the A B C D recordings that don't have labels, and if they did, it would be the same as the models names. So, saying "the xm5 with EQ recording, was actually the xm5 without eq recording." Makes almost absolutely no sense, and so this section became very lengthy. It very much feels like a rant I can't easily talk about without pointing directly to what I mean in person and getting listeners feedback real time, nevertheless I tried my best. TL;DR: skip this section, I'm just confused about why the Q45's were talked about so highly, they definitely lack in performance, but out of the box their tuning gets close to the XM5's. I'm also confused why the Q45 custom EQ from the video sounds so bad to me, It's supposed to be better, so it makes it difficult to talk about in brief. Especially when I'm just wanting a quick reference to illustrate the niche differences in what I had thought prior vs what actually was. Okay, so I just don't understand why everyone really seems to like their music without any mids; it's so off balancing to me. I guess that's why most headphones sell v shape, but to me, it just makes a hollow sound, or missing in clarity. Among the Q45's lacking something, I know it's more than distortion, perhaps it's also the response consistency, it's less smooth... That was my whole inspiration for writing this all out, based on the review, someone like me was "Gung Ho" about getting the Soundcore Space Q45's, someone like me who has various other soundcore products, but also has or tried whatever other sound things of any brand I can get my ears listening to; someone who does like a fun sound 60% of the time, but also likes balance, control and sometimes even reference or "flatter" sounding cans. Someone like me did not think the Q45's sounded better in performance and only got close in tuning, was confused why it was reviewed like they were supposed to sound better. -I did the blind test and thought: "for sure, B was the Q45's with custom eq. C also being the Q45's but without the custom eq." B turned out to be the XM5's EQ'd, so I was wrong about B. C was Q45's without EQ and I correctly guessed. -Whereas, I had thought D was the XM5 with eq, and thought 'A' was the XM5 without eq, I guessed purely based on my perception from the review selling the Q45's. Yet, recording 'A' turned out to be the Q45's with custom eq, I incorectly guessed that custom eq should have been what B sounded like. -Recording D turned out to be XM5's with no eq, I had guessed D was XM5 with eq, thinking they only got slightly better from my guess of them being with no eq as the recording 'A', which again was because I was thinking they would sound the worst of the bunch without EQ, but thankfully incorrectly guessed that. Well, not thankfully to my wallet if I were to want to buy the cheaper one. -I thought soundcore had to sound the best with eq, but it was the opposite; recording B the eq'd XM5's sounded the best to me. Based on the review, I was led to believe that the XM5's had to sound the boomiest and worse without eq, but didn't expect it to be that much better when eq'd vs not, in my opinion. Thinking that the recording of the XM5's when not EQ'd, was what I was thinking It would sound like when EQ'd, was kinda funny to me. I just thought the "supposed" "warm sound" matched the XM5 better with recording A when blind guessing, and was supposed to sound worse too, but they were actually uncovered as recording B, eq'd from D where they were stock. My favorite was B, thinking it was supposed to be Q45's but was XM5 was slightly shocking, though I ignored the giveaways. I ignored the hiss for some reason, it would have been indicative of sony's if I had acknowledged it as part of the headphones and not the mic recording quality. Likewise, I didn't expect such a jump in quality from no eq to eq (in B from D). So I ended up guessing that: "the space Q45 were tweaked or EQ'd from C to sound better now in B", that was just my guess because they sounded somewhat similar to the B recording's tune. (And yet less compressed somehow? Yeah, if I thought about that, it would have been another give away that it was not the Q45's in B, they can't just change their technical performance). Ultimately, the Q45's stock (signature) sound or "not EQ'd" sounded closer to the XM5's EQ'd sound, more similar than DHRME's Q45 custom EQ did. I thought Q45 sounded better with their stock signature. When listening blind, the Q45 theoretically fixed some of the things I didn't like with the D's recording; being the XM5's without EQ, while not completely, it was a bit more fun. The Q45's stock sound was recording C. So, I do not understand still why people like A and then D. I get it that B and C aren't as dramatic, but it's just missing so much in 'A', and still some missing in D. I would rather be less annoyed at that "dark" feeling than having just more bass and less clarity or unevenness with the Q45's.

First: I love your videos and expertise. Second: I don't like Sony Headphones. Owned several of them. Third: I listened to your sound samples of your last video regarding the Q45 and YES, THEY DID SOUND LIKE A TIN CAN! I couldn't believe it, because I love the headphones of Soundcore, especially the Q30 and more the Q35. Now, I bought the Q45. They arrived today and after listening to the first track (using Apple Music, Lossless via LDAC on Android) I was really shocked! Out of the box they sounded like ... guess what, A TIN CAN! So, I powered on my Q35 and listened to exactly the same music. The difference was clear at first listen: Q35 superb, Q45 trash. I got into the EQ of the Q45 and although they are not the same, I used the EQ settings, I use with the Q35 - but with not difference. Still trash on the Q45. TIN CAN TRASH! I am really disappointed and will return the Q45 tomorrow. Never thought that Soundcore could disappoint me this way when sound matters. I don't care on ANC or battery life, sound is the thing that matters when talking about headphones. And in sound they failed this time.
@jg5028

I thought the same thing about the Q45. Tinny, zero depth, and very nasally. I tested them side by side with the Momentum 3. The M3 had a much more full and deep sound. The imaging wasn't quite as good, but I enjoyed the M3 much more than the Q45. I ended up returning both, though, because ANC was the most important thing to me and the M3's ANC was terrible. The Q45 had decent ANC, but I just couldn't get over how bad they sounded. I'm curious about the Q35 but I've tried Soundcore twice now (Q45 and Liberty Air 2 Pro) and they failed both times (the Liberty Air 2 Pro were the biggest piles of crap I've ever owned in my life) so now I'm hesitant to try anything else from them.

I am a bit late viewing this video. From, the original video, some genres of music were both reproduced well on both devices; however the female vocals were a clear winner for the Sony. Using only the female vocals, I would say, for sure Sony = B and D. Soundcore = A, but it sounds like the bass has been boosted slightly and the treble decreased to make it less tinny and a little richer sounding. Overall, I do agree with the assessment that the Soundcore is a good device given you have the EQ controls to tweak it to be close to the Sony. All the clips do sound every so slightly different, so there must be some EQ settings going on, though I am not totally sure. I do think, with the Valkman controls on the Soundcore itself and no direct comparison in person, it's definitely an interest headset that someone could truly enjoy. Great value. Great review guys!

They Both Have Very Enjoyable Sound With All Media Types But The Q45 Has A Different Sound Profile Out Of The Box Than The Q35s . I Listened Wired Passively And Also With The LDAC Bluetooth Codec And The Q35 Had The More Impactful Sound . The ANC Nod Clearly Goes To The Space Q45 . I know this video is about sound (subjective) however do a teardown of each headphone to see which is built better? sound quality doesn't always justify the extra $. A solid build (internal and external), the ability to replace parts (i.e. a battery or ear cups), whether or not they work when powered off (these soundcores do not apparently) etc. should factor in IMO. There's no reason for Sony fans to get upset if a soundcore product is close in sound quality. Soundcore puts out good stuff (I have both). Sound quality is most important but not the only barometer for cost in my opinion. There's other stuff to consider as well.

I have used the Q20 and Q30, sill have both pairs. Now I am using the XM5, I kinda feel disappointed, because I expected perfection, and SounCore headsets are actually quite good. The Sony AI kinda sucks when coming to predictive modes. Sony has a good sound note, and does not get uncomfortably loud, but sometimes I want loud with some songs and mood. You can reduce the volume on the SoundCore, but you cannot go higher on the Sony. And again, this is from a normal person's perspective and not worrying about all of that jargon. Maybe I should have gone with the Q45? The mic on the Sony's are amazing though
