If I remember correctly, guitarist Saki is wearing a pair of sunglasses she got from a Kishidan member. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole the first time I heard this song. There are some great versions with Kishidan singer Sho Ayanokoji and SCANDAL, and the whole group with LiSA.
It’s a tribute. After watching this Covid cover too many times, I had to learn why MAYA opens by saying the NAMPA line, “ORE NO TOKORO KONAI KA?” (“Wanna come to my place?”), as well as the the breaks into harsh vocals, and the reasons for the school uniforms and those specific dance moves. So I found the original MV, and all became clear. I then went down a rabbit hole of various concert performances and dance instruction videos. I was also impressed by the very melodic original guitar leads and solos, which HAZUKI and SAKI replicate accurately. But I still didn’t understand why MURATA TAMU was wearing a boys uniform with a crooked hat. It turns out that a baseball hat set askew was her trademark years ago when she was drumming in another band. Speaking of YANKEE culture, have you seen the movie TSUMASHIMA MONOGATARY (“Kamikaze Girls,” overseas)? MAYA is a phenomenal and charismatic Pop singer. See their cover of DON’T SAY LAZY (K-ON).
The drummer is Tamu, nicknamed after the Tom drum, and those are electric drums which Tamu can hear in her buds but make little noise. She lives with her husband and two small kids. so I doubt she can make a lot of noise.
I have not heard the original, and I really like Nemophila's version. Nemophila has lots of covers. I tend to prefer Nemophila's version, but not always. As far as I understand they made those covers for their own entertainment and maybe also for rehearsal of them being a group. This particular one is a covid recording with them being at home. Before that, they played in Tamu's rehearsal studio. The group Nemophila was not really meant to be. They were just having a good time together and had some kind of gig they should do together, I do not know what. But, the chemistry was high. They liked to meet and play. So, they wrote some songs and created a group and choose the name Nemophila. Their covers tend to have less and softer harsh vocals. Most of them are classic rock or metal, like Iron Maiden, Kiss, Skid Row, Bon Jovi, ACDC, Helloween, Linkin Park, etc. But they also cover Pantera, Babymetal, Loudness; Rottengraffty, Show Ya, X-japan and Maximum the Hormone. Its all so good! Regarding original songs that are not so harsh. Here are some examples * Life. A beautiful song that is about the drummer Tamu getting her child. They have a covid live performance without audience. * Sorai. There is a live version that is good. * Raitai. The entire group has screaming shouts. But, otherwise singing. I think the music movie is good. * Adabana has screaming, but it is beautiful and maybe you can handle the screaming. The music movie is very good.
They started as a session band in 2019, and opened for Loudness and HammerFall in September of that year. COVID limited their live performances in 2020, so they started releasing cover songs on RU-vid.
