It's 2024 and I'm still playing the Playstation 3 consistently, here's why. Thank you for watching, leave a like would you kindly? #ps3 #playstation3 #playstation
Most are even better than today! No candy graphics meant that they had to work harder on the story, gameplay etc. Now it's the opposite, first focus on eye candy, then the rest. Mind you I'm still playing ps1 games here and there.
Me to man I mostly 😂 play Minecraft in ps3. And I play Injustice / NBA street home court / cod Modern warfare Trilogy and my ps3 is not jailbreaked because I don’t trust jailbreak. Plus ps3 servers is still up like that’s crazyyyy after 12 years and more.
I think it depents on the Genre you love to play. Imo the golden era of Gaming is SNES/PSONE because of the massiv Number of decent RPGs. But sometimes you can find Gems in the actual Generations. The Switch is JRPG Giant
I've had a PS3 connected to my TV since mid 2007. The 360 and Wii are long gone, packed away in the attic, but there's still plenty of reasons to have the PS3 connected. It sits alongside my PS5, Series X, Switch and Wii U in my entertainment center.
Love that the WiiU has a place in your current entertainment set up aswell. Mine generally comes out on rotation, usually around Christmas time because younger relatives still love it, have all the exclusives for it
The first console that I bought with my own money (my savings) was the PS3 back in 2011 and until this day I still using it, not only for the games but also to watch movies.
It’s nostalgic man I feel u. I got one for Christmas back in 11 as well. Still using it till this day. Man, this thing brings so many childhood memories back it’s insane. Jesus bless you man ❤
Me to same time as well, sometime around 2011. I got it on sale and the store gave me a copy of MW2 with it for free. My first larger investment as a younger kid I was in 7th grade It still gets played and is at home by my tv. I’m not gonna buy a PS5 and the ps4 has been in the closet for at least 3 years now The PS3 is just different to me… one of those things you can’t explain but its special in a very unique way to me
The PS3 has an abundance of japanese JRPG's you cannot find on any other console, it can play ps1 games natively and imo has the most gorgeous UI, much prettier than the ps4 menu
I preach from the rooftops at any given opportunity, the XMB UI for PS3 & PSP forever outclasses everything else. I've still yet to find another UI that is as simple, sleek and elegant. No fluff, no 6 menus to jump through to access your apps and downloaded games, everything is easy and intuitive to access. Can we go back please 😭😭
@fayelis I honestly find 4K to be overrated. Like to me, HDR is the bigger jump than 4K is. Most games on the PS5 are sub 4K when played in performance mode, but HDR is what makes the graphics still pop.
I've gone from playing the PS4 and Series X on a 55 inch 4k TV to playing the PS3 on a little 19 inch HD TV and the experience is ten times better. Playing through the Killzone and Resistance games has been amazing. The way forward for enjoyment in gaming is to go back.
You downgraded and the experience is ten times better? Stop the cap, champ! 😂 I can’t go back to the slow days of the ps3 and the ps4, let alone to the low resolution of a tiny tv. To each their own, though.
@howardmueller1535 I think It's because for me (who has been gaming since home consoles became a thing) I don't think graphics and resolution make a game good. PS3s weren't designed for huge 4k TVs so don't as great on them as they do smaller HD ones. Loading times don't bother me either given that games like Gramlins on the Spectrum ZX would take 45 mins (if it even did load).
I still have a ps3 with over 70 games. It has so many great rpgs. I watch dvds and bluray on it too. Don’t wanna sell it because i’m so attached to it. Great to see someone else who loves this console 🥰
I've said it to a few people, that the 360/PS3 are the first consoles with timeless graphics that will still look fine in 50 years. Alien Isolation and Bioshock on the 360 still look stunning.
If my 360 hadn't bricked in 2013 I don't know how long I would have waited to "upgrade". At that time, you could go into any GameStop and buy a dozen games for $100 to keep busy for the next half decade. This generation was the perfect balance between depth/graphics and quantity of games, and there were so many passionate developers that wanted to push the envelope in terms of gaming quality.
I had 3 RROD's in a row, my 4th worked allright, then my mothers RROD'd, and I gave her mine and gave up on Microsoft, never bought another Xbox again. Replaced it with a PS3 in late 2011 early 2012 ish, and it still runs like a top. Im actually playing GT 5 right now on a 55" 4k tv, I think it still looks great. I appreciate how much they got out of those things back then. I have put more hours on my PS3 then every other console I have ever had combined since 1989, thats a total of 8!
As a 90's kid, I couldn't agree more. Games were at their peak, not just in graphics (even though it's dated by now), but there was a lot of creativity in many titles and the games are literally released 100% done on day 1. Nowadays I had to rely on Japanese games to get some variety, while Western games just use the same formula like online shooters or movie-like games that have controversial stuff or too much micro-transactions that made games look like a gambling machines etc.
In some parts of my brain it's still circa 2010 and playstation 3 it's the latest and greatest. That thing just screams next-gen. The jump from 6th to 7th gen was insane. HD graphics, HDMI connectivity, motion controllers (sixaxis and move), online play (free at that), bluetooth connectivity, media center, sleek design, bluray, playstation home, etc. I mean, come on! US AIR FORCE SUPERCOMPUTER BUILT WITH A CLUSTER OF 1760 PLAYSTATION 3'S. Do I need to say anymore? Ok, great memes such as: "I have 3 ps3's." There, case closed. p.s.: 360 and wii were awesome in their own right as well, those were the days
PS3 still ballin' in 2024. I play mine too on a regular basis. About to go down a rabbit hole of playing 3D compatible games with Move controllers in the PSVR heatset.
the console itself and its games still hold up if not surpass what we have today gameplay wise also the fact the community has its own server for so many games is amazing .
I remember watching the Underworld blu ray on my Ps3 and being blown away by the quality at the time. And having games like Uncharted 2, Killzone 2&3, Heavy Rain and Infamous.. Man, Ps3 was amazing.
I bought a PS3 back in November of 2022. Since I was a 360 player during that generation of consoles I was always curious about a LOT of the PS3 exclusives. With my 360 now basically my living room DVD player and having jumped to an XB1, I decided to actually buy a PS3 and have been collecting for it for over a year. And let me tell you that I'm really digging this thing.
Another great thing about this is era is that companies werent nickel and diming you at every corner. The base game always came first. $60 got you the full game and not a fraction of it so the rest can be sold to you later.
It's also the generation where that nickel and diming began. In Dragon Age: Origins there was an NPC in camp that you couldn't get rid of without buying a DLC and agreeing to do the quest for him.
The 7th gen felt like a continuation of the great 6th gen era for the first few years but it somewhat lost the spirit at the end when all the games were just becoming poorly performing early 8th gen titles that needed dlc for a full experience
@@voteDC Although a lot of the monetization practices were controversial at the time. Now if you complain about anything you're a framed as a weirdo by the consumer influencers unless you go after an "acceptable target" that everyone decided you can hate on
I still have my PS3 slim hooked up to the TV along with the PS5! The PS3, 360 and Wii were the last great golden era of gaming! The PS3 is a modern retro!
Mg, I'm so happy to hear someone compliment its appearance as much as you did. I only owned one of the fat PS3's, and unfortunately, it was a refurbished, dying system I purchased from Gamestop, and would crash constantly, leading to taking forever to get it running again; even still, it was really hard for me to give it up for the PS3 Slim, cause I loved the way it looked next to my TV.
My 60gb PS3 yellow lighted after 16 months of me getting it. This was a massive problem that Sony refused to acknowledge. There were some great games on it, though.
I've been ripping thru the god of war saga on ps3 and having a blast I am currently re-playing the games in chronological order I just completed ghost of sparta.
Seems like the PS3 is becoming more sought after in the retro market to! I spoke to a few resellers and they both talk about how demand there is still for PS3 stuff still. Which i hope is enough to keep the PSN running for a few more years 😅
Try to export them to different countries....they have demand in countries outside USA...a jailbreak ps3 would cost about 150U.S dollar in Malaysia. I'm still running super slim since 2013, never really fond of the newer generation of consoles maybe someday I will but not now...games are cheaper now so I'm still sticking to ps3 and btw I'm 34 and nowadays it's just collecting dust lol...but i do love certain games such as hitman, rdr, tomb raider...miss those time when I use to have time for video games.
I have the playstation 1, 2, 3 and 4 and the playstation 3 is my favorite. I got the slim and super slim ps3. The best collection of quality games on any gaming system.
The PS3 is one of the best consoles, however the YLOD (yellow light of death) is a big problem when you want to buy this version. Despite this, it is still a very good console. Greetings from Spain.
@alejandroaguilar4693 The statistical difference is based on time frame. All launch models are doomed to eventually ylod in due time. There is always warping during heating and cooling and the balls in between serves as support to align everything back. The problem was over time, this did not happen causing cracks overtime and thus ylod occurred. The only fix is the Frankenstein method. Swapping the gpu more recent one. This was actually how sony repaired ylod consoles back then unbeknownst to us till recently when it was it was discovered that sony "refurbished" ylod consoles had gou models that did not exist pre ylod time frame.
My Father-In-Law drives a commercial garbage truck, he had a few GameStop pickups towards Detroit a few years ago; they would place trash consoles in a box to the side for him to bring home. I've fixed 2 PHAT PS3 and 1 Slim, my Phat just recently started to show weird Garbled Pixle patterns and Freeze when starting up. So I have to tear it down again. Long Story Short, PS3 was never something I had or was fond of; but Holy Hell do these make great Retro Boxes, including PS3 and Prior New Sub: Dryden, Mich.
I really went out of my way to go and buy a PlayStation 3 not too long ago. Never owned one before this. So everything I experience was for the first time. Good lord, that machine is an absolute beast!
I love my ps3. It was so badass especially back then. It just made the entertainment center look fancy. Then all the fun on the games. Like cod modern warfare and all pro 2k8. Also the fun i had on ps home. That was so cool at the time.
Love this video, greatest content and man I fully agree 👍 we still have a ps3 slim which my wife plays all the Lego games. Tomorrow I will check out some of my ps3 games that I haven’t played for ten years at least.
Fully agreed with every word. Just adding.... PS3 had multimedia function which was far better than PS4. You could copy your CD collection and use the PS3 as a jukebox. I had digital TV receiver and coul watch and record any TV film into the HDD. I simply loved GTA IV and GranTurismo on PS3.
Also, aside from DVD/blu ray, the fact you can run all the streaming services- Netflix, prime, etc anything thru this thing.. things that didn't exist when it came out.
I got a playstation 3 60gb at launch, and I have a 120gb slim and a 160gb slim that still work like new. I have all the boxes and manuals. On a side note as a child who grew up playing games in the late 80s, I have had lots of laser eye surgeries to repair the damage from playing games tethered to a small TV.
Me too bro. Played bad company for years, battlefield 3 or 4 now, black ops. As far as single player I finally played infamous and love it, kingdoms of amalur, dragons dogma, and dark souls 2 before it shuts servers off.
At it's time I bought the xbox 360 and its a great console, but a year ago I got my hands on a ps3 super slim and I'm having a blast, the tons of exclusive rpg and adventure games is fantastic, don't get me wrong the 360 had it's fair share but the ps3 is a step above in my opinion
Turning my PS3 into the media Hub of the house is what I've been looking to do, just need the best hard drive I can get for it and then we'll be talking. Props man, 'Long Live Play' as they used to say.
Look around second hand, Facebook marketplace, kijiji, Craigslist etc. I bought a super slim just last month for 100$ CAD. it came with 2 controllers and 18 games 16 of which I actually wanted so was a killer deal
We had bad internet connection over last Christmas, causing me to drag the PS3 back out to watch DVDs because we couldn't watch streaming. Today it's still plugged in and I'm enjoying Resident Evil remake and Gran Turismo 5 on it. Great system the PS3. I have a slim, not the George Foreman model that you love. Thanks for posting, great video.
I really wish I owned a backward-compatible PS3. Seriously, this type of console is awesome. I only have a regular fat PS3 which is also fine but I also own a physical disc collection of PS2 games and I can't play any of them -_-. And sure, I could buy a PS2 but I kinda don't wanna, and sure, I could jailbreak my PS3 to play PS2 games but I don't want to do that either. Maybe I should just consider saving a bit of money each month until I have enough to buy a backward-compatible PS3.
this video made me wanna buy a ps3 fat, it was my first console and there's a huge catalog of games on it, ive got a 360, but i didnt grow up with it so it honestly doesnt feel the same to me
Either buy one cheap that you wouldn't be too upset if it were to die, or push the boat out and buy one that's had the Frankenstein mod and other work done that prevents the YLOD. The phat PS3s are amazing machines but so unreliable in their factory state.
I’m on my 6th ps3 console (a backwards compatible version 😍). It’s the best console to the point where I have just bought the move controllers for it this week just to enjoy some of the games I’ve still not played! Totally agree with you. Best still I use my ps4 controllers on it so it is a perfect match as prefer them to the ps3 controllers. Throw in a 3d tv for stereoscopic 3d visuals and it’s the best. Explains why so many games are being ‘remastered’ now for the newer consoles as well
I used to always use the 4 usb ports on the front….. how else you gonna get the whole band together? Anyway, although I haven’t played Rock Band in years, I do still play my PS3 frequently.
The PS3 is amazing, I spent so much time playing games like MW2, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, inFamous 1 and 2, and the many Dragon Ball Z games on the console
@@scoped7reaper664 The inFamous series is amazing! The inFamous games on PS4 weren't as good as the PS3 games but they were still fun. Wish we'd get more games in the series
I've actually got two PS3s right now. One's the OG 60GB fully backwards compatible one and the other's the 80gb MGS semi-backwards compatible one. I keep the 60 GB one in 4:3 mode connected to a CRT TV to play PlayStation 2 games on. The 80gb one I keep connected to our LED TV for the PS3 games. Still today, both systems are actively used.
Problem with the ps5 is the awful games I know I'm old at 37 but they're all literally fortnite clones or this fantasy bs nothing else, I like games like gta or mafia, la noire, rdr2 more realistic or historical games but they don't make those types games anymore, I mean been waiting 10 years just for gta 6 lol, also everything now is infested with work ideology it's tiresome
Now i am playing so many ps3 games that i missed back that time, holy hell, Motorstorm trilogy is still a blast, one of the best racing games, House of the Dead Overkill, Dead Space Extraction, soon i hope to play Resistance 3. Killzone 2 ana 3 are still amazing games. All you need is big TV ang great acoustic system
Man I’ve been playing so much Rock Band 2 lately it’s insane. I took the PS3 for granted some years back. I let a friend borrow it cause I was getting somewhat bored of it and I was playing stuff like bloodborne at the time (about 2016-2017). I never saw that thing again. 2 years ago, I bought a new one, and it’s been such a blast. I’ve also been going through the original god of war games; fun doesn’t even begin to describe those. I highly recommend people to buy a PS3. They’re ABSOLUTELY worth it.
Good video! You talked about a lot of good features. I was an Xbox guy until my buddy convinced me to buy a PS3, mostly to play call of duty which I had on the 360…. Blu-ray and free online gaming is what convinced me….. I am glad I bought one back in 2011 …. I am still playing PS3 as well…. I have 2 jailbroken ps3 Slim units, which I really enjoy. PS1, 2, 3, PSP, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Arcade, Gameboy Advance all one one system??? Games are good still, play on the fly… none of this multiple downloads for 1+ hours or other dumb stuff like that… I am at the age where “The old stuff is the best” …. I really don’t care to play new games…. it is such a hassle … What happened to insert disc, play and have fun?
You need good quality thermal paste like MX and cfw so the fan doesn't heat up solder balls for hours on idle 10percent stock fan settings are not enough cooling especially when you start playing games only kicks up to 20percent
Completely agree. I just played through Singularity on my ps3 it was a really good FPS with time powers. I still have Binary Domain and Spec Ops and a bunch of others to play too.
So many good games on the PS3. GTA IV is usually on my rotation of games and since jailbreaking it last summer I've been using it a lot more nowadays even with having a ps4 and ps5.
I've been replaying through Resistance 3, Little big planet over again, metal gear solid hd collection etc. It's been soooo much fun, especially resistance. Shocked that the resistance series hasn't been re-released for modern consoles
Don’t feel bad brother I just bought a ps3ast week only for $60 only included the power cord and the system been playing call of duty black ops 1 and call of duty world at war
3 years ago I bought on ebay a B01 model playstation 3 from 2006, it's the 20 gb model of PS3 I absolutely love it. But I know that original models of PS3 are prone to get YLOD so I don't play that much on this particular console and this thing has still firmware 1.31. Well I love this console as much as you so I bought a slim for playing every day
I bought mine like 3 months ago. In like new condition. Opened it cleaned it, delid both chips , reapplied thermal paste and all pads. It runs like new. Mod it and added all the games i was never able to buy when young the console is amazing
To this day, PS3 has always been my favorite console and I still use mine. Yes you can use all 4 usb ports at once. Yes Backwards compatibility is def worth it 🖤
My guy said it to a tea, the “if you ain’t playing certain multiplayer games you don’t really have anything to do” that’s facts right there, I own 2 backwards compatible ps3s and also a standard ps3, “I’m a trader don’t worry I ain’t some crazy collector” lol. But yeah I have one for personal use and 2 for sale but I can’t see past it in a lot of ways. Retro gaming is really getting the attention it deserves again I own crazy amounts of retro consoles and this one has to go down as one of the best consoles ever made by far. Keep gaming people!
Bought a yellow light background compatible fat ps3 took it apart cleaned replaced a few components and it's been running great for over a year now.. it's a great looking console and haven't seen another since that looks that good.. still playing some games on it..
I still play my ps2 almost everyday. Tekken 4 (single player mode only), resident evil 4, tekken 3 and 5, max payne 2, code veronica. Not to mention the ps1 games like tenchu 1 and 2 and resident evil 1,2,and 3. Thats all i need for the most part
Have a PS3 Original 60gb Phat and love it. Play a ton of PS2 games mainly since I really like that gen of games. Also they are upscaled and smoothed when played on the original phat system.
Recently starting playing on my PS3 again this year and its simply fantastic i loved it when i got it and i love it now started picking up games ive never played during its lifecycle just bought Splatterhouse and Shadow of the damned look forward to trying those. And yes to the inevitable commenter i know i could jailbreak it and play them all for free but i like having the physical media.
This is also my favourite era of gaming. Recently I turned my ps3 on and played nhl 2014 and was completely satisfied with the experience. The controllers do feel cheap now after playing with ps4 and ps5 controllers but it wasn’t a deal breaker for me.
