Burnout is real. I'm not the one paying for your content, so I have no right to tell you that it's fine with me that you take a break. All the same, it really is fine, I think, that you let yourself recover from the very real damage that burnout can cause a creative endeavor.
Hey Tim, don't worry about us, worry about yourself instead. Simple matter: If you don't take care for yourself, you'll get ill. If you get ill, you lack energy. If you lack energy, you can't finsh the creative projects you wanted to work on. So just take care of yourself and be asured that we all will miss you and can understand perfectly well that you need your timeout when you need it, just like anybody else. We are all gamedevs and creative minds, not a single person here should be angry or mad or anything like that. I found your channel maybe two months ago and have seen plenty of helpful, supportive and important videos from you; I have learned a lot by listening to your experiences and I want to thank you right here for all of this: Thank you, Tim! But for the gods sake just take the time you need and don't feel guilty for not making new videos!! ... and now get off the screen, get some qualitytime, try to find some joy and recover. It would be madness to feel guilty about taking some time to rest Tim. That's totally normal and absolutely mandatory to you to take a break. You push too hard and too far before realising you need time for yourself, next time plan it, take hollidays, week-end, and don't apologize for being a normal human. Cheers from France!

Heck yeah take a break mate. You owe it to yourself. It gets overwhelming trying to do everything all the time. Happens to me a lot but fortunately I have all my other hobbies to escape it and come back strong. Don't you live in Florida? If you have a boat or know someone that does that's great therapy for me. Perfect for taking a gamedev break. Also I find getting out and flying drones is another thing I enjoy doing for a nice break. Man I love the aerial photography.

It's the responsible thing to do Tim. I've recently de-loaded on work commitments myself and just taking time to rest. Sometimes I feel like I'm useless and unproductive in comparison to what I could be, but the rational part of my mind is able to recognize that I need this space, and that it's an ok thing to do. My inbox has since cleared up, the morning dread is fading and I've been able to rest better. Know that these feelings and decisions are appropriate responses of a healthy mind to current circumstances. Rest up mate, see you again in a while. I'll also add that the general positive and cohesive response from your community means you've got a great group of people to return to when you do.
Hope you're doing well, Tim! Just went through all of the nearly 200 comments here, and I see there are many people with well wishes who most of all want you to recover. I find your content really inspiring. One thing in particular you've taught me, is that "we should start before we're ready." That's why I won't delay game dev anymore. Even if I don't have a full-fledged concept planned out, I'll start making something right away. You've really brought a lot.of value to a great number of people. Feel free to take that break for as long as you need. You'll always have a base!

Thanks for 'splaining! Enjoy some rest! Nobody wants you to burn out. Maybe you can schedule a better pace for yourself when it's time to get back to things. I know I burn out all the time but find ways to refine my schedule to lighten the load without losing productivity. It's good that we push ourselves to do our best work so long as we make it sustainable, too. I know you know all this, so just saying I get you and think time off is a great idea. Hi Tim, I've been a long time follower and have fallen out of watching your videos (my circumstances have changed too where I'm prioritizing family over career during this pandemic). I think sometimes you have to re-evaluate your passions, not just where they are at but the methods and ways to move forward. A fresh slate with a powerful self-awareness is what you need. Get some rest Tim !
Stay positive, always look at your accomplishments and sit back and appreciate what you've done. You need a team to help you but I know the money isn't there to hire one. I honestly think GDU should become a publisher for indi games. Indi devs love making games but not necessarily the marketing and business side of it. I may be wrong but I do think you enjoy marketing and you can combine that with your other passion which is games.
Be well my friend. You are a source of inspiration and certainly not a bottleneck in any way. As an indie videogame developer I can say that your authenticity and earnestness are tremendously helpful and inspiring. Glad to hear you are taking a break to give yourself needed time and space. Hope everything is OK with you! Burnouts are very real, taking a break and trying to maintain a balanced life is easier said than done, especially when you know you have things to do. But it is counter productive to trying to push through, you get diminishing returns each day. And this is compounded by other daily life stresses. So, remove yourself (physically if you can, go somewhere), take a solid and guilt free break, you've earned it!

For the record there are rabbit holes of topics to dig through while you work on new videos and the daily element is engaging but a fraction of the larger “game”.
Tim, I am quite new to your channel, but I've seen enough of you to think youre great. Take a break, come back stronger, but come back smarter, a video every day, is insane, and I have no idea what you do on twitch but just your youtube alone is way way too much. 1 video every other week, or even every month is just fine! Don't burn out, don't let shit get you down, NOTHING SHOULD STOP YOU, press on friend. Make the most of some probably well deserved down time, and come back STRONGER!
Summer Sucks. It's hot outside. It beats me down emotionally, no matter if i am indoors or outdoors. Take a break from routines for a bit. I am. Taking breaks, makes people healthier in every way.
Scrap the daily upload and you will be fine. Talk when you have something to say. The only one who wouldn't like this is the youtube algorithm However I think you will get this right
