so I think this is almost 20 years old now? Just so the people here who never heard of her know, she's about 55 now. Her last special I think was called "Hormonal Beast" in 2017, it's pretty good.

It was after she was part of a talk show that failed. It only lasted one season. It was supposed to be a younger version of The View but topics were more like what you would get on The Talk. Unfortunately did not work out but it also had Jules Asner and Kimora Lee Simmons.

I watched this when it first aired on Comedy Central, classic stand up that takes me back. Watching it now, I was actively counting how many things she was saying/talking about that literally couldn’t be in a cable stand up skit these days. I did this at first without even realizing it, then caught myself counting and was like “what am I doing?”. I find myself doing this all the time when rewatching old stand up, or, funny stand up as I call it lol. Oh how far we’ve fallen 😂🙈

@@seeharvesterthis actually isn't incorrect grammar. @vicstf8432 just gave us a really good illustration of "habitual be," a tense that exists in AAVE but not in standard English. The "habitual be" is used to describe extended actions rather than singular actions. It tells us that event in question happened more than once. It's funny that AAVE is often viewed as "less correct," in some way. As any linguist will tell you, AAVE contains grammatical aspects that don't exist in standard English, meaning that AAVE actually communicates information _more_ efficiently than other dialects. And communicating information is kind of the whole point of language. So the thing that language exists to do, AAVE does _better_ than standard English.

I love Lynnes stuff. From when this cae out 15 or so yrs ago til the present in 2024. But i cant remember ever hearing a audience clap so much on every joke almost. Again...she's great. Every jokes lands. But what ppl dont realize in stand up is how crucial timing is. If your timing gets thrown off it can seriously tank a set. I mean that highlights her talent even more. But it's still strange to me that the audience erupts so big after every little funny thing at the start. Like she's still setting up her joke and the audience is clapping like its the punchline.
