That scene in the frogs stomach literally traumatized me as a kid. I literally used to close my eyes during that scene on repeat viewings. 😅

So the lore behind the making of this movie was it was an idea that Tom Hanks (yes, THAT Tom Hanks) came up with creating an animated adaptation after reading it to his kid. He then approached John A. Davis about it because he knew John worked on Jimmy Neutron. Because of those other two ant movies you mentioned (which honestly, kid me enjoyed Antz A LOT more than A Bug's Life), they were like "Great, not another ant movie" but the more he thought about it, the more he realized the story was different. Because the book was only 2,200 words, they decided to expand it considerably. Ironically, as Davis was working on the script...his house was infested with carpenter ants and he had to call an exterminator. Perhaps this carpenter ant attack was a warning sign of things to come...because this movie is just another example of why having a star-studded cast will NOT save your movie.

i watched ant bully once at a movie theatre in a hotel when i was 7 and bc i was the type of kid who was terrified of insects the movie did not help at all. for a solid two weeks i walked around with ear muffs despite living in a tropical country and this being during summer bc i was so fucking scared of being turned small by a group of ants that i mightve wronged somehow. i had nightmares about this shit

Yup, it is a sad fact that The Ant Bully is what caused Jimmy Neutron to end. Before it closed, the studio wrote four scripts for the fourth season, but two of these scripts were not revealed. The new season was planned to be more serious and darker than the previous. The premiere of the season, entitled "Deep Impacts", would be the return of Evil Jimmy, who would have struggled with Jimmy in their definitive last encounter during a battle on the moon. Another episode entitled "Three's a Crowd" was planned to be part of this season to explore the relationship of Cindy and Betty. Nick Dean was also set to return as part of the main cast, Cindy and Jimmy would have become an official couple, new and old villains would have returned and appeared, and the League of Villains would have made more appearances. But in the end, it was just too costly. I think my favorite fact about this movie is that the voices of Aang and Toph, Zach Tyler Eisen and Michaela Jill Murphy, BOTH have a role in this movie, let alone that Zach is the one voicing the main character like he did with Aang.

This movie is so nostalgic for me, I have the dvd and when I was a kid, I wanted to eat the green jelly stuff because it looked so juicy. 6/10: the green jelly looked scrumptious

Fun fact: The bully kid wearing the football helmet was voiced by Jake Goldberg, who was Pablo in Backyardigans. And then you have the main kid bekng voiced by Zach Tyler Eisen, who was ALSO Pablo. Literally watching Pablo bully himself.

i found the frog vore scene viscerally horrifying even as a child. to this day it’s still the only thing i remember about this movie. it’s even worse than i remembered. jesus christ.

I remember watching this as a kid and wanting to eat the honeydew (or whatever the green jelly was called) so BADLY. IT LOOKED SO GOOD. I just know it's got the same consistency as jello but with a lemon/lime flavor.

I'm still sad this movie caused DNA Productions to go bankrupt thus canceling Jimmy Neutron before it's final season.

I watched this movie and the only thing I remember is when the ants get freaked out by the kid. One ant say "his skeleton is on the inside" and another ant screams in horror something like "he's backwards!" ... he-he, middleschool biology joke

9:15 Looked it up, ants do not have their hearts in their abdomens, but rather in their thorax (equivalent to the human chest, so she should have crossed her back as that is where her heart is). Thus, what she actually crossed was either her second stomach, crop, or rectum. And yes, this was the day that I learned that ants have a second stomach.

They Might Be Giants has a song called "Ant" about an ant that crawls into your head while you're sleeping, becomes president, and then men come and ransack your house. That sounds like it would make a better movie than this.

Zoc was the best character in that movie. ALSO there's a deleted scene of him watching his family die because of the exterminator which adds up to why he doesn't like Lucas the mass murderer as easy as the other ants

Holy crap, THIS MOVIE WAS A FEVER DREAM! It was a weirdly big part of my childhood because, and I kid you not, Zoc was my FIRST ever crush. I couldnt really process it properly because I was 4-5 when I first saw it, but I remeber CLEARLY that Zoc was my first crush, and my jealous 4 year old ass hated Hova for it. Upon rewatching it in later life I wouldnt say the movie is *good*, but for nostalgia reasons I’m fond of it. I really liked the Alka Root and Honey dew scenes, I really wanted to eat them. Also upon rewatching I realized my type has not changed since I was 4 because Zoc’s personality lined up a biit too well with a couple more recent crushes.. Idk if I should be concerned or proud at the stability

I don't think Antz was supposed to be a kids movie. Apart from the inuendos, there's this scene I remember vividly where the general (?) ant was planning on forcing the princess to marry him and he called her a wh0re. Like he used that actual word. I can't find that scene anywhere and I think it was deleted from the movie in later releases 😆

There were parts I liked. The wasps in particular were awesome, especially the teamup at the end. Weird show though.

I saw this movie as a kid and while I do not remember it well, it caused irreparable damage to my brain. The frog part may be one of the most uncomfortable and disgusting collections of scenes in any children's movie.

Having not known what was to come; I do so wish I'd taken that timestamp to skip the frog stomach a bit more seriously. Because holy shit was that absolutely horrific on a level that does not match the rest of the apparent film. Vile. (Kinda gave me the same whiplash of a reaction that I had when learning about the film Padak for the first time but at least that's horror with purpose.)

The thing about this movie and basically all bug themed movies is they never try to actually show what their actual monarch system looks like. Like if your gonna make a movie about what it’s like to be an ant at least make it SOMEWHAT accurate. The biggest thing I see is they always have a male lead. Now there’s nothing wrong with that but if The Lion king and Tarzan stick to real patriarchal tropes with the 1 male king/leader then they could at least follow this. All bugs that live in a colony or hive are dominated by females, all of the workers are female, all of them. All the soldier ants are female too. Males are drones who only mate with the colonies queen.

Y'know, I bet my life would've been slightly better without this movie being made.
