One phenomenal living bass legend interviewing another!!! That Bass Collective bass sounds good to my ears and Maurice is on it!!! Whoa, that Warwick sounds amazing on "Free" One of the most mind-blowing videos that I've ever seen was Fred Hammond & Radical for Christ Live at the MGM Grand. Maurice absolutely dominated on a bass that I didn't even know existed , a 5-string USA Peavey Cirrus! I had to have that bass, got one, sold it later, and still regret to this day that I did!!! MONSTER TONE!!! As Yoda would say, "The Anointing is strong in this one.....hmmmmm" I'm so glad God led me to this channel. The great Nathan East-YESSIR!!! My Top 5 Gospel bassists are Reggie Young(I had no idea that was an Alembic either. I thought it was a Smith, too!!), Maurice Fitzgerald, Darrell Freeman, Terrence Palmer and Fred Hammond. Thank you for an incredible interview! What a blessing!
I met Maurice at the Gerald Veasleys bass boot camp back in 2008 and he was so chill. Honored to have met him . That band was Fred’s toughest band in my opinion.
Every gospel bass line that grabbed my attention is played by Maurice Fitzgerald I just want to say Thank you! You're one of the best no matter what style of music you play.
Reggie, thanks sooooooo much man!!!!! This interview was absolutely THE BEST!!!! I’m a huge fan of you and Maurice. You’re pulling out all the facts that actual bass players want to hear. #BassGeek....that’s me. Keep up the great work!!!
This guy is the reason I even picked up a bass greatest decision of my life Maurice I’m your number 1 fan I got to meet you in Las Vegas you did a work shop at word a blaze you Joey and Calvin I appreciate you pouring into me I’ll never forget it….
Mr Reggie. I appreciate you getting this young man on this interview. I’ll say…besides Joel Smith & Gouche? This young man was the guy that caught my ear. I literally bought everything I could find that he played on! Kevin had asked me to do a couple recordings (Jackie McCoula & Kurt Carr) but I couldn’t due to work schedules at regular jobs. But when I heard that he got this young man to cover the gig?!!! I told Kevin THAT was a great choice! I finally got the chance to meet this man recently in Hayward Ca with the Tommies. One of the nicest guys ever! Thanks again
Maurice grew up in the same church I still attend today. This young blood sometimes did not make the rehearsals. But you know what? Maurice would walk in just in time as the choir was up singing on Sunday morning and I was playing the drums. He would hurry to plug in his bass, now the thing is it would be a song he never heard before because as I said he wasn’t always able to make rehearsals on Monday night, he was only about 16 years old and he was still in school. This young blood after plugging in his bass, I would hum the bass line notes as best I could to him, I’m playing the drums the choir was singing, again having never heard the song before he would pick up the keys and before you knew he was playing the song mind you, this is Sunday morning the choir was up singing and he never heard the songs before! Maurice, I pray that the Shalom of God rest and keep you bless you and your family my brother. -Henry Strong
I remember that first album with POC like it was yesterday. I remember Maurice and Paul sharp being so upset over the fact that they weren’t ready. But by the next album those guys TORE IT UP!!! And never looked back.
Hey Reggie, You knocked this interview out of the park. Maurice Fitzgerald is a bass legend. Thanks so much for sharing his incredible, musical legacy.
Maaan! Excellence! I actually learned something new from watching this show. I'm a bass player from Indianapolis, I had no clue it was Maurice that played on Rodney Bryant's " He's a keeper & We offer praise" All in All, I loved the interview. Maurice thanks for all the great work you done in the gospel industry & music period. I would be honored to meet you & chop it up. May God continue to bless you as you proceed forward through this great journey my brutha. Reggie God bless you too as well for creating a excellent show my brutha. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for doing this. I got started playing Maurice. Reggie Young gave me the Ken Smith Desire and a different approach to the bass period. Joel Smith was nice too. I do thing to this day and I hear all these gospel greats in my playing. Now I’m learning from the newer guys.
That Peavy cirrus was the truth it made my brother who play bass get one. They call it the poor man ken smith but it's bite is ridiculous and it's clean and hold that bottom end down too. But for me the purpose for design performance was the best gospel bass performance I ever seen.
I always said, I will not be a broke musician. Now, Fitz did all those records, and was thinking about getting a regular job at one point. Use my degree, and do music on the side!! .. or be a Marcus Miller or one of those guys.
I'm jealous ..ya'll had buses .. we had whatever type of car you had to sleep and get dressed in ..that's why you seen most musicians back in the day drove big caddy's. lol...Btw the Warwick Bass he was describing was a Warwick Dolphin Bass I still have mine that was made by Dunlop
