Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan) tells Paul (Tom Hanks) that he has been through enough psychical experience with humanity’s cruelty and that he is ready to die.
"I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world every day." This is a must see movie for any generation.
What is The Green Mile about?
The Green Mile (1999) Synopsis: Frank Darabont’s adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Paul, the head guard of a prison, meets an inmate, John, an African American who is accused of murdering two girls. His life changes drastically when he discovers that John has a special gift.

A deeper look into the story's characters and events in The Green Mile reveal that it is actually laden with religious symbolism, most of them related to the life of Jesus Christ: bit.ly/2kejaGx

And if the answer is no I cannot answer/yes I will lose sleep, is this a necessary good that goes against the grain of societies beliefs?" Every conversation, every action, every decision in my life for 30 years has centered on this, fought for this, and almost died for this a few more times than I probably should have. I am not perfect, but before God, myself, and those around me, there will be no question of what I see as right and wrong. "Sparrow in the rain" is a very specific comparison. Sparrows in The Bible are the ones God sees and knows when they die (according to Jesus). “Five sparrows are sold for only two pennies, and God does not forget any of them" And if one was in the rain, it would be exposed to the Holy Spirit, who comes in rain. A sparrow might still be lonely in the rain, lacking human sensibilities, but we should not be, and John truly was not...

Both Frank Darabont AND Michael Clarke Duncan commented on how most actors would usually do their part in a dialogue scene and then leave when the camera was turned on the other guy...but Hanks was so committed and wanted so badly for Duncan to nail this scene, he stuck around and stayed focused on his scene partner - giving an incredible performance just reacting to John Coffey's every line.

The shift in power when Paul stops doing the usual last prisoner rights spiel and asks John "Tell me what you want me to do" is fantastic. How he switches from being the warden offering comfort to a convict to a mortal man begging for guidance from a vessel of the divine. And then of course once the fear is acknowledged, John offers him comfort and even willingly shifts the power dynamic back by continuing to call Paul Boss. It doesn't matter at this point what Paul thinks is right or wrong, there is a mile waiting to be walked, and John wants to walk it.
