Well, it finally happened.. The home made & incredibly awesome Chisel Disc Harrow went down! Yep the sealed bearings on the front Disc axle finally blew up on me as a result of all of the very rough ground on our new Missouri Ozark's farm. Working up brand new food plot seedbeds has taken it's toll. Many roots were getting tangled in the axle, that ultimately caused 2 of the sealed bearings to implode. So for my last food plot that I just planted I was able to use my hydraulic top link to tilt the chisel disc so that I was only using the chisels to work up the food plot so that I could get it planted. So I started shopping for an add on or even a replacement tillage unit and this is what I found that I felt was a good fit for what I will need this fall yet and over the winter if I decide to use old school tillage for a corn and soybean destination food plot come spring time. So stay tuned for more updates and food plotting action as we are hard at it even though it is pretty late in the fall food plotting season. Nice discs, decent price, they should be a good alternative for your chisel disc.

Ohh nooo, the chisel disk down for the foreseeable future!!! Not good…but definitely fixable. If that newer disc doesn’t work out…be looking for a good used old Chisel Plow. I got a International chisel plow at auction for under $500.

Well I definitely got my money's worth out of the chisel disc. Hopefully I can get new bearings for that beast.

That will cut nice...since it doesn't have hydraulics get you some suit case weights and build a frame for the weights to ride in on top of frame in the middle of disc. Each weight weighs 125lbs. Did that this year to mine and it made a world of difference. I'll send you some pics.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors 10 дней назад
roger that! My first thought as well. But at least it has a good start on it's own at 1700 lbs!!

@@kapperoutdoors And you'll really ruin some bearings on that new disk if you add weight that it wasn't built to carry. Disk when you have moisture and that will do the trick. I realize you have a unique situation this year and aren't able to wait for rain to get things done you have to move but I mean in the future.

It'll be alright. Just helps cut through the grass that's dead and laying on top of the the ground. Without hydraulics on a disc sometimes it will slide across the dead grass instead of cut through it and bury it.

@@cst270 Good call on the weight. I don't plan on adding any, hope this one lasts awhile. It is pretty hd, but we have some rough ground. Thanks
