As the quest continues we are following. Your videos are always entertaining and informative. I'm sure I would never see all these towns and cities in person but you offer a great alternative. Thanks for that Timothy.

You can tell Fair Bluff, NC's town center, was once a thriving place. That's a nice boardwalk trail by the river. All of those shuttered building interiors most likely have to be completely gutted due to damages/destruction caused by the floods. The mold counts inside those buildings, under floors, on and behind drywall, and inside wall cavities, etc., have to be significantly high because there was certainly visible mode on the concrete walls inside that courtyard you went into to observe and also inside that building (on the lower wall area and ceilings) you peared into that had the plywood on the lower part of the entrance. Mode remediation costs and moldy building interior demolition/removal costs would be astronomical in this economy. Further, there is significant flood-related damage to the buildings facades, too, that will also need remediation/corrective actions in order to render them usable. I feel sorry for that town.

Thanks for your thoughts on the mold damage. Something to consider.

I read late last year that the plan was to demolish the old downtown and turn it into a park, but I don't know the timeline or if that plan has since changed.

Don't forget to visit thecsmall town of Whiteville NC only a few miles away. It to was once demolished by hurricanes too but it's being restored beautifully. Nice places to shop and eat. Beautiful historical homes. Close to the beaches, I was raised there. Check it out. I think you'll like it.

Appreciate you for sharing my hometown of Fair Bluff. My family still resides there and I still come home often. My roots there along the riverbanks run deep, especially coming from a family spending countless hours fishing🎉. Most of those buildings are on schedule to be demo, as part of moving the town further uptown to new district. We believe there's greater in store for our beloved community. Keeping the faith.

I grew up in this town and I miss it so much! The building you were wondering about was definitely a theater. My father and his two brothers owned the theater and the car dealership and the hardware store. We had things stored in the warehouse of the street and in the stores, and we lost many many of our old furniture that we had hoped to give to our children. The mold is devastating. Thank you for taking me down memory lane even though it saddens me I love to hear your ideas about how it might be changed for the better. The town needs a benefactor who can bring to fruition some of your ideas.

Thank you so much for sharing your family history with us. Even with the buildings being in bad shape, I could tell it was once a thriving town center. And I hope it becomes one again.

You must be related to the Scott's I bought their old house across from the American legion now that's a building I'd like to see saved. Someone bought it and has done a little work on it.

You must have bought the little house with the great front porch that has two doors in it or at least it used to. My father lives in that house for quite a while when he was young, and then my brother lived in it for a long time. The American Legion building is such a fabulous place and I remember being sad to see it so droopy. We used to play down there quite a bit.

Back in 1963, this Virginia boy transferred to the new NC Wesleyan College, met a girl attending there, graduated in 1965 in the second graduating class. After a lifetime in Northern Virginia, my wife of now 58 years live outside Southport. A great State.

My mother's mother was from fair bluff, they were mostly Cherokee. My great uncle was a brick Mason, and he did some preaching, I remember going to visit him in the mid seventies. He had a little game room in town, he would take us kids there, open couple of the machines and give us handfuls of quarters,and we would play those video games for hours. I remember driving into town, the water and the Spanish moss was there back then. We loved visiting and having uncle Bob as a guest when he visited us in SC.

We ran into your channel and have watched a few of the NC town videos. Love the good look at the town you give. Plus, we love the ideas you give for renewal. It's so true that living near water has its rough times. We sure hope somehow this little town can be protected and revived in the future. We love the hope you give for the next investors that can hopefully bring new life to this town also 👍

This is a somewhat popular "shortcut" to the beach. If the town had inexpensive overnight RV parking next to the river that would be awesome.
@TimothyFrench
@TimothyFrench 6 месяцев назад
Definitely could be a place to camp overnight

I live on the corner across from the river if I had enough land I would certainly look into it. The problem with these small towns is getting them to approve things they're set in their ways. I have enough room for maybe 3 or 4 spots.

A new place called Shizzy's Wildcat Rescue is being built. It will be interesting to see how that helps the town. Before the floods I remember seeing a kayak place at the boat dock but that has been a few years back. I think it would be nice to take a river trip from the state park to Fair Bluff. I agree with you about making this area appeal more for outdoor enthusiasts especially considering the nice boardwalk along the river.

I live in Fair bluff NC right across from the old American legion building on the corner it's the higher side of town I'm right across from the river it hasn't flooded where I'm at. The Scott's owed the house i live in. They're tearing down all those buildings. On the corner across from the store they built a mall with several business opening some have already opened. I checked into trying to buy one of those buildings the town said they'd cost to much to fix they just want them gone. I thought the same thing i could fix the building.we have the watermelon festival we also have a BBQ cook off where people come from different places. It's a shame because it was a beautiful little town. That with the 2 doors was a theater you were right. I would love to save some of those buildings. I've only lived here for 2 years and i love it. I got a great deal on my house. Thanks for showing our little town.

That Scott Motor Co. place has been closed for at least 20 years. Well before Florence and Matthew. My grandpa lives in SC and we occasionally pass through here when visiting. Because of how easy it floods there, I don’t know if they’ll ever bother rebuilding.

Used to be a big speed trap.. Chill town. Chill cops. It's pretty quiet except for beach traffic, who all know by now to act right.

Mr. French you are an optimist for sure. That town as beautiful as the river might be ain't ever coming back. Sorry my friend but it might be a place someone could buy a slab for a camper and hook it up outside of town. Cheap summer home.

I work with the chamber of commerce in Fair Bluff. All the buildings downtown will be demolished in the very near future. Maybe next time, get your facts straight before doing a video and encouraging people to purchase buildings that are going to be demolished.
