I have been feeling the nostalgia bug lately, and what is more iconically 90's than colorful Lisa Frank on literally every Trapper Keeper, lunchbox, backpack, and pencil at school?? It's ridiculous, it's amazing, and I am so excited to share my 1590's + LF mashup!

Indecisive seamstress to another: After seam-ripping something, use the eraser at the end of a pen or even just a whole normal eraser. It will get the short bits of thread out of the fabric so you can just dust them off! You just erase over them, and the rubber texture grabs them out.

This is one of the many useful little tips I remember learning from my college sewing tutor - she just mentioned it as a throwaway comment, but as someone who has repeatedly ripped out seams in the pursuit of *perfection*, I truly think there are few pieces of advice that I have found as useful. Also... in a pinch... if I can't find an eraser... I've used a rubber kitchen glove. :D

When I was active with the SCA we used to do a Fool's Feast in April. Most attendees made historical patterned clothes, but with wacky fabrics. Like, I made a dress out of neckties, I made a tunic and pants for hubs out of luridly colored flowery fabrics. This dress would be perfect for something like that if they get involved with the SCA out there as well. Also. Wear it EVERYWHERE, lol.

I love the white fabric woven look. I like the slightly heavier weight of it! That was my first time working with white boning! When I figured out how to use it, it was so much Fun working with the boning! Our daughter's friend loved it!! Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of her wearing it, but I do have pics of it on the mannequin.... I'm going to see if I can find one to post for you! I love you! You rock, girl!!! Thanks so much for sharing your sewing and sewing technique knowledge!!! ♡

I’ve never been into any kind of animal print but I totally agree without it it wouldn’t be a Lisa frank dress!!! (Although I might have gone the gauzy overlay/sparkles route instead) but I love the tie closure at the top and the ribbon you chose! So cute! I also love that you tried to match the gradient when you were seeing. I totally didn’t even think of that and it looks so good! Allows those other details to really shine! Amazing work! And I don’t know it seems like the perfect dress to go grocery shopping in! I probably would wear it everywhere!

I've seen several of your videos and am wowed by your skill, artistic sense, and abilities! I am an old seamstress, and went to a large urban high school with a fabulous sewing teacher. I wish that I, and everyone, had the fabric, time and money (and that the earth had the ressources for everyone) to make dresses or other garments just for the heck of it with no intention of wearing them... However as this isn't currently the case.. I will enjoy this video and be grateful that it has inspired me to be more bold in my colour choices (not just Rachel-hobbit-core earth tones) and creative with my patterning, however I think I will be keeping to the more frugal use of fabric and utilitarian projects that speak more to me. Thanks for the ideas, inspiration and techniques!

You know if you're short on fabric (I hear you, it's ridiculously expensive 😭) then how about just making the bodice, and wear it with a separate skirt, or even pants? Or give it a little peplum to mimic a dress. I really want to make a sleeping beauty in the woods/this dress kind of thing but...I have nowhere to wear it to. So trying to think of ways I could tone it down to be more wearable. And brown. I don't have any cottage core colours in my wardrobe haha

Rather than using the textile medium, which can be really expensive, you can also use fabric softener mixed with the acrylic paint. I've used it several times and the paint is malluable on the fabric and doesn't chip off in the washing machine.

My first historical garb, made I two days for an SCA event I was invited to unexpectedly, was this basic Tudor style dress. Only I made it from a plain wool blanket. I had forgotten just how comfortable they are to wear (yes, I wore it in mundane life as well) and how stylish they look. The true beauty of historical garb is that you can use modern fabrics - though I stick to pure cotton, linen or wool, no polyester mixes - and make a stylish and comfortable dress that can easily be worn out in modern times. Think I will turn those 4m of cotton poplin into a Tudor style dress, boned with cable ties, which I can wear over my shifts or other underdresses, mix and match gives you much more choice. Thank you Morgan Donner, you have solved the dilemma of which style dress to see next, and it's time I alternate between simple Norman and simple Tudor style dresses in my daily life. I cannot thank you enough for solving this particular dilemma, I shall begin drafting the bodice pattern this afternoon.
