For future reference - certain types of resins slow cure - and you can pour them flat into a sheet, let them half cure, and then drape them over a form and they will mold. You can also use a heat gun to help. there's some videos out there of molding resin if you want to look that up. Those resins are often super expensive though, more than the clear worbla.
@@crescentshay Some also simply use UV-resin, paint a little on a surface e.g. clear wrapping paper and then cure it right away with an UV lamp and do this over and over and over again, until the layer is thick enough. But I have seen this method only used on small items but you can achieve really cool effects with it. It just takes some time.
@crescentshay Evan and Katelyn are a couple of crafters who love resin, and a video comes to mind where they made lamps by bending half cured resin. Your dress seemed like a resounding success with the techniques you used though, so bravo. Gorgeous.
Building off of this glass concept: a mosaic dress would look cool! It could be made up of little pieces of glass, ceramic, or even just scraps of fabric! Looking like a cathedral glass window! If you went with glass or clear-ish plastic, lighting it up like the windows would be lovely!
that was the inspiration!!!!! while i was making it i realized the dress also kinda looked like a dress made of water, so i wanted to try out an ocean shoot!
@@crescentshay can you please make a glass slipper out of resin and for it to be completely see-through you can put like a little bit of fogging effect around the toes so they won’t be seen through the see-through glass slipper and you can put like a bunch of glitter so we could shine and pop out
For the next project, you could take a sketch of a dress from your childhood and recreate it. Another idea would be creating a dress based on a character's outfit or color scheme.
this dress is SO PRETTY and i really like the under dress! It might be one of my favorite clothing items you've made. I think you should try making a clear-ish fairy wings or a fairy cosplay next
Im surprised no one has called you up to make them a dress at this point. Every dress you make turns out absolutely amazing and I love how you show all the mistake along the road. You're the main reason I want to become a fashion designer so thank you so much
When you said shenanigans, my immediate thought was “SHAY-nanigans!” Each of your creative ventures brings me so much joy and I can never contain my excitement to see what fun ideas you’ve got up your sleeve. I’d love if you designed something that could easily be worn by anyone in a fairly broad range of sizes. I hate that current designs leave so little room for weight fluctuation and I wish there was more emphasis put on making clothes that are meant to be worn a lifetime.
A beach glass dress would be so cool! The different colours would make it shimmer in the light, and it would be doing some good by cleaning up the beaches
you know it’s a good day when shay posts a video that looks very fun and chaotic :D edit: i stand corrected, there was minimal chaos! also, i think a video were you make a outfit out of pages of a book would be fun!
one of my favorite videos of yours was when you experimented with silicone and made those octopus shoes. It'd be cool if you returned to that world! Maybe a mermaid top? Or some accessories to match the shoes?
Can you add color to the clear "glass"? Food coloring, maybe 🤔!Could mix and blend colors, make different colored swirls, etc.. Would it still look glassy?❤❤ Use in the wings? LOVE YOU❣️ 15:51
I would love to see an eatable picnic themed dress. No idea what that would entail, really, but seeing you figure out your inspiration and how to go about things is really interesting and fun !!
14:53 I *love* the shot of the dress sitting by itself as the waves come in! It’s absolutely beautiful! Someone else already mentioned this first, but it definitely reminds me of the final scene in the Little Mermaid!
This was the first project since I got Instagram, and I had such a fun time following along as she shared the journey! The dress turned out beautifully!
My childhood dream was to be a fashion designer but I didn't follow this dream. Instead, I am an unemployed English language teacher. You are living my dream. I really like your work
I love it both with and without the under dress, but I think I like it slightly better without the under dress though. I would love to see it with a undergarment that is almost your exact coloring, like illusion mesh or something. I think it really shines when it just looks very clear. Such an amazing project!
Amazing job! I love the fact, that we can see your ups and downs, because it shows the whole process of making the dress. It allowed us to learn more about the materials that you used and their properties. The dress came out perfect! ❤😊
You are not just someone who sews in their background, you are someone who sews and knocks it out of the park! And you're great at sculpting. Mind-blowing results!! The dress is stunning but you look absolutely amazing wearing it! Shay, this is epic!
It is so insane to me how much Shay has grown as a designer I started following her on Instagram for her cosplay dresses and specifically the Belle Shoes she continues to absolutely blow me away with her skills ❤
This is amazing!! It really reminds me of polly pockets with their plastic clothes- especially while modeling when you couldn’t put your hands by your sides. Such a cool vibe!! It looked amazing by the ocean and the underdress is super cute by itself
I love this project, for the under dress I feel like if it was more fuller like how Nina’s was. But this dress came out beautifully, and my suggestion for more projects is to create dresses if your were invited to go the met gala
ahhhhh ur so close to 3M congratssss🥰🥰🥰 Also it reminded me when u used resin but id love to see a collab with you and Evan&Katelyn making a pure resin dress or smoothing cool like that
I love your creativity hunni, every creation is so beautiful. I admire your dedication to each vision. Never loose that passion and motivation in your life, it will serve you well. I love the dress you made to go underneath, its iridescent sparkle bounces light of the glass - it's my fave of the 2 ways of wearing the dress. It adds to the overall beauty of the concept xx
👌🙌✨️😍🫶🥰 BEAUTIFUL!!! I think adding all types of sparkles/rhinestones/funky colorful fabric underneath will seal it a major deal and possibly add tiny fairy lights within/under and within the fabric ❤🎉✨️😍 Get it girl!!!!
you can create a mold of your mannequin then when you pour in the resin the lowest parts will be the cups, maybe pour a bunch then set the mannequin in to help shape it to the cups correctly, good luck with your crafts!!
LOVED seeing your process, including what didn't work! You are so creative and skilled! The dress turned out so beautiful. The shot of it sitting by itself in the ocean looks so fantastical--the way the folds catches the light, the translucency that allows you to see the rocks and current, and the water droplets clinging onto the dress--what a perfect combination!
I would love to see Shay put her own spin on the patchwork dress/set trend! I'm sure she would be able to come up with something amazing and it would be a great scrap buster. Kind of like a 'scrapbook' with little pieces of her past makes.
kinda an oddly specific request/suggestion, but i'm costume designing a production of Into The Woods that i'm in, and the concept i came up with for Cinderella's dress is a wood corset with an a-symmetric tulle skirt with vines, leaves and moss climbing up the dress and little mushrooms and bugs adorning it. (conceptually because the spirit of her late mother who gives her the dress resides in a hazel tree, the dress is "made from" the tree). you're honestly one of my designer inspirations, so when coming up with the dress, i had you and your creations in the back of my mind, so it'd be super cool to see your take on the design (if it's something that tickles your fancy)
SHAY!!! this is so cool!!! I'd love to see you try some more unusual fabric manipulation, like ice dyeing, weaving with unusual fibers, starching, smocking - things that make fabric look or behave differently than normal fabric, as a companion to this and other projects where you make non-fabric materials behave like fabric. Such a cool result that you managed to achieve here!
it turned out so good!! the underdress made it feel extra fancy :)) just random ideas but maybe an ocean dress with something reminiscent of waves or jellyfish? something color shifting? or something in a more lolita type style?
The glass dress is genuinely GORGEOUS!! I love that moment when you finally finish a creative project and it turns out even better than you thought it would… it’s always so SATISFYING😭😭 As for new ideas, I’ve been really into The Boys recently, so maybe coming up with a your own superhero suit?? Lots of design options for that for sure!
We go to DragonCon every year and last year was the first year we did the "Bunny Hutch Party", where you do a Playboy bunny version of your cosplay. I'm working on a Bridgerton Bunny cosplay but I have no idea what I'm going with tho. But as unique ideas go, making a structured, boned, vaguely historical Playboy bunny suit and them layering another personal concept on top of that...
I would love to see how the glass dress looks on top of a solid bold color! Thinking a solid elegant red v neck that is form fitting and cut to the same length as the glass dress. I just think it would bring out all the details of the folds and creases ❤
Omg it's so cute! It looks so whimsical and almost fairy like, along with the under dress. Which btw the under dress looks adorable! The glass dress actually looks perfect for a water fairy cosplay, since it looks like water
Eeee this is so magnificent - it worked so well!!!! Congratulations!!!! The photoshoot at the beach is perfect - literally made of water@!! Like the little mermaid! 💕💕💖 I love the underdress it's beautiful I've always wanted a dress that looks like a literal flower, flower petals etc, like I'm wrapped in flower petals, I've just stepped into a flower and it's draping itself around me, but it's sort of hard to visualise on a human body. That when you look at it it's recognisably a flower, but not necessarily obvious at first , and is a workable wearable dress. ❤🎉 ps congratulations ln finishing the dandelion dress - its truly magnificent - worth the longer development process and pauses - actually a lovely life lesson - some things take a longer and different path than originally planned - but become even more perfect in the proccess 💕💕
Honestly this is amazing and gorgeous! I personally really like it with the leotard in the sun cause you can see the full silhouette and plates, plus it catches the light better, this is utterly jaw dropping though, well done! As for recommendations for future projects I have one that's a little out there: I don't know if you've ever played the game GRIS on steam but in it the main character has this magical shape changing dress, I think the basic design might be a little simple for one of your projects but maybe somehow designing a dress that can change shape? Either way, the ascetic and colors of the game remind me of your designs a lot and I'd be interested in seeing your interpretation! Whatever you decide I'm sure it will be wonderful, especially if you're having fun with it:)
i feel like a fun idea could be going into the section of the craft/fabric store with all the fun/funky fabrics and making a dress/outfit based off of one of those fabrics :D
I love the underdress! It would be so cool to see an iridescent ball gown like it with maybe different colors so it gives a faint holographic vibe to it?
Maybe you’d be interested in a knitting machine! You can do crazy colorwork and lace with these and make the sweater of your wildest dreams haha. They’re really affordable when you get them used and so cool from a mechanical standpoint :)
If you have not already done that - I love big, moving wings with beautiful feathers. Maybe iridescent with an ombre effect. The most beautiful bird wings you can imagine. Maybe with a matching elven ball gown?
I really like the underdress being made of an iridescent fabric- I think it helps sell into the illusion that the glass is also like rippling water 😊 On that same note, I would love the idea of wearing that glass dress over a pretty oceanic blue under-dress with ruffles (like the frills you did on Kokomo’s kimono!) for that exact same reason! The idea of the dress imitating like a wave crashing over your body sounds really pretty ☺️❤
I think if you were ever to try that again, you should make an accurate mould of your body so it sits a bit more snug. Or see how creative you can get with the shape, like making it look wind blown for example. There's so many things you could do with this concept
This is such a cool idea! I wonder if you could make a dress that transforms into a realistic looking flower? Could be a whole series if it interests you
As always amazing work on the project and as beautiful as ever. For your next project I think a period piece of a ball gown or something that would have been worn to a formal event around the late 1800’s
This is so cool!!! I like both the leotard underneath and the sparkle dress. Tbh, the leotard is so cool, especially with those ocean shots. Very cool.
Shay, I love your content. You're doing a smashing job! You remind me so much of myself 20 years ago when I was studying fashion and clothing at college. For my final major project I did a headdress and mask combo based on a combination of different mythical creatures like dragons and mermaids etc. I'd love to see you do costumes/cosplays/concepts based on mythical creatures! 🙏❤In my final major project, I wanted the "phoenix" feathers (spray painted pheasant feathers) to stand upright circling the back of the head piece like a peacock tail spray. I experimented with various ways to get them to stand upright, like you do in your videos. I love the experimental phase! I ended up hot gluing the feathers to a windscreen wiper blade! 😂 Keep your creative fire burning my lovely 🔥 You've got a gift and I can't wait to see what else you can do! Big love from Manchester UK xXx
I love the underdress 😍 it was the perfect fabric and shape to take the sculptural 'glass' to a different level without taking away from it. I adore the whole outcome, and the process of experimentation was interesting to see. 🙌🏼
The under dress is 100% better than the nude body suit. It adds such a beautiful shimmer without compromising the watery look. HOWEVER if you wanted to try something more nude, I would suggest going for a skin matching sheer nude layer maybe with sparkly beading? I’m almost thinking Kim K’s nude dress. Something that looks wet or like water splashes. You gotta be one with the wave!
This dress is positively magical. I think I like it more with the iridescent underdress, because that softens the profile somewhat, like water bleeding through paper. What a creation!
every time I watch one of your videos, something in me starts glowing ✨🥹, you do all these dreamy, looking dresses and clothes, which I think that it’s not doable but you make it possible in a really sweet beautiful way😫🤍✨
I like both ideas, the glass dress only AND the iridescent dress under it. I think the first has a very cool avant garde style, and it's awesome. But I also think there's a really fairylike, ethereal quality to the one with the iridescent dress underneath. I think it would also be really neat to try out other things underneath, like a solid black unitard (more avant garde) and neon stuff (very cyberpunk). This kind of makes me wish I could make my own. Nice job ♥
I would love to see you make a outfit that looks like you are a tiny fairy just wearing a giant flower. Like the dandelion dress, but with a lily flower or daisy or something.
I'd love to see that idea you mentioned a while back about a vegetable dress! I did a wearable veggie sculpture in college that was just me surrounded by life-sized carrots and things and I'd love to see you as a green bean or something surrounded by other big veggies.
omg you are a genius. so glad u didnt give up and the dress is amazing. i think u can even change underdress colours for different looks of the glass dress. its really great!
I have seen your growth from starting and yesss you are doing so good and amazing as goodness. ✨️ lots of love and your all dresses are so breath taking so sure. And I mean every skill and idea u use is just incredible.
This is the first video of yours I'm seeing. Let me just tell you, I really admire your dedication to making this happen. Doing the research, doing the testing and finding a way to do it with your conditions. I really admire that. It turned out really beautiful and personally I really like the underdress. Amazing job!!
I have a few IDEAS! - Off-the-shoulder fantasy wedding dress with royal detailing - A Korean fantasy hanbok - Water droplet earrings - A medieval fantasy dress with accessories to match
This is lovely. I love it with the under dress too, makes it more aethereal. For someone who finds it difficult to "trust the process" watching your failed attempts at methods until you nailed it is refreshing. As for the next project ... how about a dress made out of Lego? Perhaps with some moving part / mechanism??
