As much as I absolutely love Switch Axe, I can definitely understand why you put it where you did. It actually took me until I'm basically in end game Sun Break, for me to finally appreciate it. Risen Shagaru Magala, actually helped me become super good with it. What I love about it in Iceborne, compared to Sunbreak, is that the hits actually feel like there's weight behind them when in axe mode. Plus Axe mode can be buffed so it can break parts way easier. The most hilarious thing though, is how prone you are to having outrageous flukes with it. Nothing feels more dirty than landing one of those lucky hits with it that flinches or knocks over a monster, while that monster was in the middle of one of its devastating combos. I once flinched Kushala with an elemental discharge, because it flew right into the explosion literally half a second before the explosion ended. So satisfying.
CB main here. Part of the reason why I main CB is because 4U was my first MH game and CB was the first weapon I went with. Since I had no idea how the other weapons worked at that time, I went "meh, the other weapons must also be this technical" and stuck with it. While it was also stupidly broken in 4U (shield thrusts all day and UAEDs out the ass), I probably wouldn't have been a CB main if I knew the other weapon mechanics first.
Thats a pretty interesting perspective of it! I guess if you learn the CB first then other weapons wont feel as crazy to learn. Me personally i never felt the CB hard to learn, i started in gen4 and had only used Greatsword and Longsword. Tried everything in World and found the Switch Axe and Gunlance much harder to learn than CB
Idk most ppl don’t know lance boxing. They just think sheild and stick low damage, but never actually boxed a monster with lance never being hit once. It’s a dance.
@JL3TFGAMEZ It's just not flashy enough for me lol. And how my playstyle is, its almost my polor opposite of just sticking to a monster and not dodging/countering in a cool way. I just don't really rock with shields lol
As a charge blade main since MH4U, i..... Completely understand you, lol. It's a clunky maintenance, charging the shield sometimes feels like a job. But that's when Valor Charge Blade from MHGU and Counter Wirebugs from Rise come in handy, giving you the immediate possibility for a charge anytime or significantly speeding up the process. Although MH4U charge blade was the best, so OP. I love you though, your choices are completely fair and i completely agree with the fun tier. Also, SnS RULES! (and has some of the best designs along with GS)
Agreed, 4U charge blade was absolutely OP and so fun to use. I feel like a lot of the newer elements of the weapon, like the sword charge or Savage Axe Mode, are what have lead to the conception that CB is an overly complex weapon. Things like Valor or Wirebugs do as you said mitigate that to some extent, but it's still a lot compared to other weapons.
@@roselight6952 Absolutely agree, the complexity comes from adding mechanics in an already "Niche" weapon. Sword charge and Savage Axe made me so anxious about not utilising my whole "arsenal" because i had countless hours in 4u and GU just with the charge shield; but then i learned and i love those mechanics as well. But yeah, i think it was a right move to make charge blade more flashy in rise and more immediate and strong in sunbreak, seeing how fast the other weapons (Like when you see the db it looks like you're playing DMC lol) were becoming. Still, my preferred CB will always be Mh4u. Have a good day!
agree as well, dont really find it complex, its just busy. guard pointing is also a hit or miss for me, if i wanted parries id rather play ls or lance more. i do like cb same as every weapon but people overhype its complexity.
Lance placement is totally understandable. A lot of people who don't main Lance only like it when the gimmick stuff is involved, ie clutch claw, insta-block, hunter arts, silkbind attacks, switch skills ect. Also the Rurikhan edit is great XD
S&S for me, by a long shot. I don't know how to say it exactly, It doesn't lock you into needing to play a certain way, doesn't have a bunch buffs or meters or ammo to juggle and keep track of or modes you have to be in before you can do good damage etc. You just go kick a** with it, it's fast and mobile feeling, a bunch of defensive options, blunt damage for KOs and slicing for tail cutting, it's the perfect weapon for a solo hunter imo.
I'm a player where Lance was my first main weapon in Tri. The charm of the Lance isn't the blocking or shield, it's the game of "how aggressive can be before I HAVE to use my shield. The lance in MHW:IB is an incredibly agressive weapon that rewards the same mentality as a LS player. Counters. Counter thrust, counter Clutch Claw, clunter slinger burst, and offensive guard procs. Blocking straight up is actually the last resort for you.
Hey Uno, been playing MH games since day one. This is my tier list for MHW, my opinion in terms of fun to play not clear speed. Favorites are: Insect Glaive, Long Sword, Dual Blades, and Switch Axe. Fun to play just not favorites: Hunting Horn, Bow, Charge Blade, Sword and Shield, Gun Lance, and Hammer. Meh tier: Light Bow Gun, Heavy Bow Gun, Great Sword, Lance. I play every weapon, I just certain ones more. Enjoy your Channel.
Your teir list seems very valid , charge blade seems a little low but understand your reason , your also giving me some motivation to keep trying iceborn hunting horn ( first time I tried it was sun break where it’s crazy silly fun )
As a hunting horn main speaking to you. You may believe your a selfish hh user when you're only buffing "yourself" but then your just viewed as a modest hero.
My favorite weapon is the hbg because of the wyvern heart gatling gun mode. It is fully automatic and it does an illegal amount of damage if you dump the entire mag on a wounded weak point.
Nah I get it with CB. Your explanation is valid. I’ve gotten to the point where the maintenance of the weapon is like second nature to me and with skills in the game like Power Prolonger, it makes it feel more manageable. I guess for me it’s kinda like while it’s a lot to keep track of, once it gets going, the amount of power you output is unlike any other weapon in the game. I kinda feel the same way about the HH as you do with CB, so I guess in that sense we understand each other😅 But great video!
A thing I see with people new to charge blade is that they try to juggle all the modes from the start, rather than picking a single style and getting fluid with it.
@@jamesproctor4568 Which is exactly how I did it. First I started with playing it like a sword and shield, then upgraded to just charging my shield. Once I got comfortable with that, I did the SAED play style and basically stuck with that all of base world. Then in iceborne I tried to use the savage axe playstyle. I’m still not a master with the CB, but it definitely helped me learn the nuances with the weapon.
Greatsword supremacy 😂. And for the CB I enjoy the maintenance aspect but against certain monsters (like barioth and sometimes rajang) it just pisses me off.
It's joever, my mains Insect Glaive and Gunlance in 'It's OK' tier Understandable tho, for me the dive feels like the only good attack that IG has and GL's WSB feels clunky to use
How you feel about the CB (my main) is how i feel about the HH (your main) but i'm doing my best to learn it because it seems realy really fun. It is super clunky maintenance though, especially if you're not used to it. (point guarding increases phial charges btw)
As a lance enjoyer I agree it's pretty lame in world. You only get one fun toy which is the clutch counter. In sunbreak they made a lot of attacks less useless, and the switch skills all add variety and fun.
As a lance main, it is definitely not flashy but definitely fun to play. The shield should not be regarded as something to use to block but as something to use to counter. Lance is a counter-heavy weapon. Most of the time you will be attacking and countering attacks rather than standing to block. I did try to see your gameplay and I think thats the reason for the ranking since you do not understand the weapon at a high level and just a one time try. I do think that ranking weapons based on first feel and after playing it has a significant difference.
Sword and Shield and Hunting Horn are my two favorite weapons. Then probably hammer, insect glaive, bow. That being said, I think all the weapons are incredible. They offer such a variety of gameplay, and each and every one can be used to great effect in the hands of a skilled player. There is no bad weapon, only bad players.
CHARGEBLADE? CANCELED! … ok, not. I played CB through World, my first monster hunter and by the end I felt building up phials, charge shield, build up phials, start savage axe was fun (SAED only fun when the monster didn’t move 😢) but soooo slooooow to get to the point where you could finally do some real dps. Yeah, I get it. I started light bowgun in rise and having so much more fun. I love World, don’t get me wrong, might have to do a LBG playthrough on World! Take care Uno, love your stuff, keep the hilarious edits coming 😁
I’ve also done playthroughs with all weapons world to iceborne and I kinda agree to most. IG could actually be fun but it relies so much on armor, decos and kinsect builds. Playing early to mid game with IG feels like hell, the amount of scaling late game IG has against early game LS has actually the same damage which is absurd. Bow and DB might be the best DPS but also deco heavy, it’s illegal to make mighty bow, forceshot and spread rarity 8 which makes it leagues harder to unlock and is essential for a viable build. DB, I guess it’s hard to get elemental decos to min max or just craft element charms. Switch axe, LS, GS, Gunlance and lance very braindead to use. Looks cool, sometimes fun but you feel overpowered from start to finish, you can practically use any deco for a min max build. Hbg lbg delete from the game, no comment on how boring playing it start to finish since sticky, pierce and spread are the only viable options. Bowgun mods are nonexistent and special ammo should be more viable to use. SA and CB might be the weapons that are difficult to master but are fun to use even if you’re a beginner. The amount of learning curve makes it fun when you actually execute a decent combo. SnS I think close to bow and DB but not that element heavy, for me the most basic weapon, the playthrough where I discovered that poison element is Godly mid to late game.
Your explanations are pretty valid, everyone has their own opinion. I’ve been trying out all the weapons too. Have yet to try gunlance and the bowguns. Here’s my current tier list Pizza time: Swaxe, CB, LS, GS, HH Fun: SnS, Lance Its ok: IG, Hammer, DB I’m cancelled: Bow
As a Bowgun main since 3rd... i 100% agree with you. I didn't really like the Bowguns in world/iceborne, i personally found the maps aren't really built with it in mind (at least my preferred play style), which lead to the over use of sticky and slicing, then shield spread. I played tho world and iceborne with bowguns at first and i didn't like the game, then replayed with the SnS and Lance and had a lot more fun.
not to mention the fact that sticky is stupid good and works on basically everything, while you have monsters that are immune to certain shot types (Looking at you three Teo, Luna and Vaal, plus Teo and Luna specifically are hilariously vulnerable to sticky) dunno if the shot immunity is a thing in the older games tho, but most of the time I still find the bowguns fun, talking as a melee main that only picked up the guns after I was done with everything else
@@Nyanlathonep the older games have the immunity too but you can hit the fore legs of kush, face of teo etc, or their wing tips but you don't deal much damage (even in critical distance it's like 1-5 damage). the best way to deal with them is status ammo normally. I will always recommend playing bowguns from the start as you feel the pros and cons of the weapon far more. Yeah the sticky ammo is great for any hunt but is balanced by limited ammo and crafting, slicing is the same as it works of cut zones not shot zones which are terrible for a lot of monsters.
Interesting list, and i'm surprised with how little I have seen you with SnS if you like it as much as your main two weapons (I hope we get to see you use it every once in a while), and also how low is the Gunlance despite being the third weapon I've seen you use, then again, it really plays different in Rise Sunbreak so I can see why it is so low here... In that regard, have you tried Valor Gunlance in GenU? If not go and try it, I think you might like it a lot. Also, as a CB main, I can see where you are coming from so don't worry, CB IS a bit of a chore to use at times, especially for those hunters if it doesn't "click" with, but that's part of Monster Hunter's beauty, there is something for everyone.
@hilken I'm just not good with the SnS lol. But I really enjoyed playing it. I played it more on my Xbox Profile. Also, I haaaaaate Gunlance in GU lol. I played adept and valor.
@@Uno_Hunter really? I didn't see that one coming, I know the Heat Gauge is an annoying handicap, but Valor Gunlance can be so aggressive and the reloading have a very nice Guard Point, I honestly thought it would be right up your alley.
As a lance main I don't blame him for not liking it, I didn't like it too when I first use it... Until I realized that it's not supposed to play defensively, but aggressively. That it's not supposed to hide on its shield, but to use the shield to brush off monster's attack and continue attacking relentlessly.
My Tier List 1. Dual Blades 2. Greatswords (yeah I like dps) 3. Longsword 4. Hammer 5. Switch Axe (If it had a counter like in Sunbreak it would be 1st or 2nd) 6. Sns (Havent really played that much) 7. Bow 8. Gunlance 9. Horn 10. Chargeblade 11. Lance 12. Light Crossbow 13. Insect Glaive 14. Heavy Crossbow
Out of all the cancellable opinions you had here, One Piece taking too long to hook people is the worst. If someone isn't into it by Baratie and Arlong Park they're probably not going to be into it ever.
Lol gotta agree with ya uno maintaining CB can be tricky but ive stuck with it since mh4u and by now its all fluid and second nature for me. A good CB main can get those SAEDS like its nothing tho
@@DragonsilverXGenesis I think this is a "first game" situation, since I started in Rise and it was kinda hard to get everything right at start, and World is pretty easy by the time I'm playing it, more than Rise actually.
@@willfern1096 nah you've way more tools on every weapons on Rise and no claw shit-mechanic, they did that because there was a lot of ppl that left mhw with a lot of unfinished stuff Extremoth, AT Velk, tempered Fujang are still big problems, and weapons are even more imbalanced. What make mhw looks easy is how broken the Fatalis gear is, but before that you're paper and some weapon like Switch Axe sucks balls if you're not spamming some specific strat (ZSD for the SA)
@@DragonsilverXGenesis I'm saying easy by the time because I just made 30 hours in World, I'm at the beginning, don't really know about the end game. Although I've already putted 300+ hours into Rise
IG not in Pizza Time, I am now sending a complaint letter. You will hear from my representatives. Lol But seriously, the weapon deserves a better place. It trivialises like 50% of the fights and you can play floor is lava with it.
@@nekomancer4641 when I played it the second time, I Hunted zinogre. I just gravitate to flashy weapons that do cool moves. A weapon just being strong or turtling up usually isn't for me. Like a defensive class in an RPG, I usually never vibe with them much.
In all fairness, barioth is a very bad match-up unless you really know how to close gaps. No amount of counters can hit a monster that spends half the fight across the arena from you spamming breath attacks.
@@jamesproctor4568 it really isnt with lance all of its attacks are easily reactable and most of the time the monster will be in ur face since u have no need to reposition. Even if not just guard dash into hop spam is more than enough to close most gaps if ur feeling risky u can even lance charge for a mount or extra dmg.
@@siduxjxhdgzhdjxhxuuxxyhgg1079 I just like being more flashy. Even if the Lance was the most OP weapon with the highest damage output....it would still be in the same spot because how you play it just isn't for me.
