Can't wait to see your fish tank finished. I had a 55 gallon tank with a pair of crappie and a pair of blue gill and a small cat fish. You can definitely learn a lot watching them. I fed mine minnows. It was awesome watching them eat. As far as what people call crappies it just depends on where they are from we call them specs in Michigan

In Indiana we say “Crawpee”. They are so much fun to catch and great eating. Good luck with you aquarium.

I had 2- 3lb large mouth bass in a 100gal. tank for years put them in my friends pond after about 2-3 yrs later loved feeding them live baits we caught Good luck its really fun to feed and watch them grow.

I'm doing same thing, I have 5 crawldads, 1 bluegill and about a dozen little blues, minnows and crappie in a cooler with a bubble box since thanksgiving.

If you still have the tank set up, you might want to add support under all four corners. The silicone seams are usually the first to go. Longear & Dollar sunfish make great aquarium pets!

its great fun, I've kept northern pike, perch and carp, the latter being best buds. Aquariums sell frozen and possibly live food to feed them, like bloodworm and daphnia.

I grew up collecting sea water for my saltwater aquarium hauling them 40 miles home and storing them in the dark to purify.

In Minnesota, can put a game fish in aquarium if 16 years old or younger. It's part of your bag limit as long as it lives. If over 16, need to purchase from a special permit place. Can never release into lake! Lids for buckets and secure them down. We have rootbeer water up north.

Nice driving! I'm surprised you had that much water in the buckets, still. Get buckets with lids because if your fish does well, you will be fetching water alot. Do some research on your filtration system too, because the typical items on the market will make that water clear and take all the tannic acid out of it. Check your PH all the time. Make sure it stays the same as it started out. You might think about getting some of the old wood out of there and put it in your set up. Make sure you have one of those siphon hoses to vacuum the gravel about every couple of weeks. You will need replacement water every time you do that, never emptying the tank more than half way, should be good. I'm not sure how much research you put in but you are embarking on what would be considered the expert level in the aquarium hobby. I have alot of tanks and if you lived close, I would have given you a bigger one. I have some stored away. You should always start with as big of one you can afford or have room for. But it's good for a test.

Having an aquarium with fish is a lot of work but can be very interesting... This is some of your creativity I mentioned earlier... I find this video to be very interesting and you are a one of a kind beauty and entertainer... Those five gallon buckets of water are heavy... You are really strong and in fantastic shape... You made carrying those look so easy... If I saw you out in a place like that carrying buckets of water I'd be so delighted and tripping all over myself trying to help you... But you could always edit me out I'm sure... Now about the crappie... To avoid the pronouciation conflict you could just call them white perch like many do down here in south Mississippi... And also to avoid the brackish water problem I would be looking for a fresh water pond with a white perch in it... And those buckets are sold with lids at Wal-Mart in the paint department... If you didn't have lids how did you not spill some water... I'm so looking forward to part two... I'm curious as to what you will name it... "Blacky" perhaps? Or "Whitey" even though he or she will not be white at all...

Watch out for alligators when getting your water! I’ve seen a couple nice ones along that waterway on 64 coming into Manteo. Cool idea, it will be neat to watch them grow!

I'm thinking as you filter and aerate that tank it will clear up a lot and the crappie will adjust slowly along with it. Never seen it done with such brackish water before, but it seems like that would work.

Years ago, my son had a small bass in his aquarium for a year. I finally made him put it back in the lake because I had to buy worms, minnows, and crickets to feed it and that was a pain in the ass. Good luck!

I'll be interested in seeing how this works out for you. It makes sense to get the water from where you're catching the fish. But I'd imagine you'll need an aerator and possibly a filtration system. Best of luck Heidi!

I use to have salt and brackish tanks and they are both easy too set up and maintain. Did that water make your place smell swampy? When you set up a salt tank I like to run it 5 days to get the temperature and salinity level perfect. I like reef fish and sometimes when you add the live rocks you sometimes pick up stowaways and I always watch the rocks and rake the sand for anything that shouldn’t be in my tank. Then I go get my fish and acclimate them and let them enjoy their new home. It’s relaxing watching the blue Tangs, clowns, angels anemones and the feather dusters on the live rocks.

I use regular non iodized salt from the supermarket. Generally around 1 cup of salt per 5 gallons water. I have a pair of 20" long columbian black fin sharks. I've never done any salinity tests in the past seven years. Salt water fish you'll need to add 1/2 cup salt per gallon of water. As long as your solution is close the fish will be alright. Dont ever do any drastic changes like pure fresh water or temperature differences. A good filter system makes easier maintenance.

My Daughter has fish in a tank.. she likes bream ,bass, and even a crawfish. She lives in the city but has a creek in back yard and has caught some bass from it to eat.2 of any size... she kept decent sized to eat later some small ones for tank.

Randomly came across your channel tonight. I fish and do aquariums. Mostly the aquariums bit now as it's too cold to fish. Anywho, you should be able to with relative ease acclimate the crappie to your treated tap water so you don't have to transport all that water. You'll have to do water changes regularly anyway to keep the crappie healthy. I can tell you how to do that easily as well without ever having to touch a bucket. a cool trick to keep the rocks from getting displaced from pouring the water in the tank is to put a plate on the bottom and then just dump water on to the plate to stop the water from moving the rocks on you.

Had to stop video at 1:45 to tell you that we in N. Texas have ALSO been unseasonably warm. 70 some odd degrees today and, just like you, muggy and very humid. The floor in my house has this film of moisture on it. So weird. Ok, back to video!

I did the salt water tank thing with local fish/lobster/crabs/eels. Feeding them bay scallops. Then bought tilapia to feed them. It killed everything in the tank. I will never eat tilapia.

Oh - your speaking my language. I keep a Salt Water Reef Tank. It is a little complicated.

Get a water ph tester from Walmart and test the ph and make sure it stays the same and all will be well😀you will also need a filter and a pump for air.
