Good Job Amber! Yes, put them back to bed every time. (Even 7 times like Amber said!) Don't let them win. It has to be nipped in the butt right away and then they learn the routine of healthy sleep and won't get up in the middle of the night and will sleep through.

Yep. My Son stopped naps at 18 months and when we purchased the toddler bed, he quit getting up at night. He just only took a nap if he didn’t feel good. He was my energizer bunny, still is at 30 years old. Our Daughter was a sleeper and she was 2.5 years old when she started climbing out of bed and we got her a toddler bed. She was a sleeper, so she would put herself down for a nap once she had a toddler bed. She is still a napper at 28 years old😀 Maverick is just a beautiful boy. I love age 2. So defiant yet agreeable

O Lordy, that stage of them climbing out of the crib. I remember one of our sons started doing that. At the time my hubby was a volunteer fire chief and had gotten a call in the middle of the night and had gotten back home a passed out on the couch. I was pregnant so I went downstairs to empty the bladder and there was my not quite 2 year old playing with his puzzles next to daddy sleeping. It was 2 am! It scared me cause I would've never heard him go out the door. Honestly, I don't remember how we dealt with that but he's now a 30 year old man. So somehow we made it through that phase. Thank God!!

once my kids started the no naps thing, I gave up with naps and ran them around playing and running errands and we would constantly be on the go, the only kicker, I would put them to bed by 7 and I got them a toddler bed.. and baby gates to confine him at night to one space IF he does get out of his room.. and Excedrin for the win.. I love you guys!!

I put the mattress on the floor so they didn't fall trying to climb. I put a toddler door safety handle on the inside doorknob that prevents them from opening from the inside. Once they refused to take naps, I told them that they could read books or nap, but for 1 hour they had to stay in their room (they still couldn't open the door from the inside). It was "mommy nap time". Eventually, they ended up falling asleep from lack of stimulation. By 4 yo old, I didn't enforce naps, but quiet time.

My boys are 23 mos apart and in their 40's now. There was a time that I had to put a lock on the outside of their door because they thought it was great fun to raid the refrigerator and feed each other with a butter knife then the older one took the younger ones diaper off and painted the walls with it. Their room was right next to ours and we never heard them no matter what we did. Thank God that didn't last very long but I feel ya girl.

My son used to climb over bookcases and babygates stacked 2 high. Climb on desks and tried climbing onto his cozy coupe to get markers on top of the fridge. I actually had to put a lock on his door because he took his two younger sisters for a walk on a Saturday morning. He was 5 then and the girls were 4 and 2. As crazy as those day were I'd do it all over again. My son would have been 30 this past year and my girls are now 28 and 26. I miss when they were young.

They make tents to fit on their bed so they cannot get out, maybe one of those? Also, be firm about it, over and over and over again, and mean it. Put him back in and get him to understand it’s not an option to get up, as you know it is a safety issue. I follow the Delos family on their sailing channel. Their baby got double zipped in. Good luck, hope you get some sleep soon!! 😴

I put a hook & eye on the outside of the door & took the crib apart. Only the mattress was on the floor. Even IF he didn’t want to nap ? He was going to stay in his room for about an hour & a half. That way I could get some chores done, without him getting into everything. Plus I knew where he was.

You asked what we did as parents when our children learned to climb out of there cribs. I really don't remember when my girls did this it has been so long ago. BUT, there was one incident when our middle daughter was out side in nothing but her underwear one morning when I woke up. This was 30plus years ago. We didn't have alarm systems etc. What we did was we installed a lock on the header of the door frame. Our daughter was 3 yrs old and we lived in the woods about 900ft from the road. But still it freaked me out. I am a heavy sleeper most nights especially when they were young I was young and wore out too. I probably could sleep through door bells and alarms, unless they were real loud. Please think about the door header locks on the doors leading outside. Maverick is very adventurous and although I understand the need for Mom to have a nap time. He may not stay in his bed it seems.

Toddlers are a lot like puppies. What is cute when they are little isn't necessarily going to be cute as they grow up. Escaping bed was cute until they got out of their room and had too much territory to investigate. If he can get out of his room he can also get out of the house. When mine got to this stage I would sit in the rocking chair and nip their escape plans in the bud. I set an alarm clock for however long of a nap they would normally take. I then told them they would stay in their bed until that time. They could take a nap, cuddle a stuffy or look at a picture book like Goodnight Moon. It does require you to use your Mom voice to calmly but firmly tell him "Don't" the word "No" doesn't mean anything at this time because he sees it as a cute game that makes you laugh. Don't give him any attention during this other than to calmly reinforce it's nap time. When he sees you not laughing and not giving in then he will learn that his bed is the best place for him to be until his time is up. It won't be long before he will give in and take that nap. He is testing his boundaries. You aren't being unkind by giving him boundaries. You are showing him how much he is loved. Please rethink the sleep sack at this stage. When you showed him heading to the living room with it on he started to stumble near the corner of the hearth. That sharp rock can make a mess of his sweet face. God please protect this little cherub as he is going to run full tilt into many new adventures. Best wishes with love and kindness, a former EMT.

We did the same thing, taking them back to bed over and over. We eventually put a gate at their door so at least they were contained in their room. We set the gate about 3" up so it was higher so they couldn't get over it or under it. They could play in their room when they got up.

So we transferred my son who is a couple months younger than Mav to a “big boy bed” a month or so before his 2nd birthday. He does get out every once in a while but I tell him to go back and he gets back in. Or every once in a while I will tell him to come up into our bed. But man does Kaden( my first son) and Mav have similar personalities. I think they would love it around each other.

I feel like its easier to just let them go if they don't want to nap. If they are tired they will sleep don't you think? Kids grow out of naps at different ages. If they keep getting up from a nap and you just let them run around they will tire themselves out right? Maybe the nap will be later than you planned. I never forced specific times for naps. If they are tired you can tell, you can lay them down then. If they aren't tired for a nap during the day and you let them go then maybe they will be more tired at night and might not wake up in the middle of the night? Imagine someone forcing you to lay down and sleep when you absolutely aren't tired and cannot sleep. I would hate laying in bed in the dark alone and being afraid of being scolded if i get up or i can't fall asleep.
