Believe It Or Not: I was in the crowd for this recording...1996 Memorial Coliseum Portland, OR. There has always been a little controversy over whether this was recorded in Salt Lake City, UT or Portland, OR, and I can unequivocally say that it was the latter. I was there, 15 ft from the stage, and it will be etched in my memory forever. Standing next to my friend (we had bombed down from the upper seats and jumped the barricade separating GA from the seats...another memorable part of the show but a different story), when the intro began and Maynard started talking to us, asking for our help and our permission. We found our comfortable, vulnerable space. We shut our eyes and went there and we met them on the other side.
The riff in the beginning of this song is actually a riff from the original version. In the soft Bridge section of the original, Adam plays this riff 1 time as an accent riff. They then took that and expanded on it to create this version of the song
@@justinman114 Just crank it the entire song... but listen to how clear and powerful it is. (you probably already have I'm sure) But, I still forget sometimes it's live. No cap, some of the best vocals I've heard. I've only been able to see them twice. Once in 98 and once 2023. Both times, I am just still amazed at how fn perfect each of them are. But, Maynard's voice is still just the best. PS. It's live.... (Just reminding myself :) )
It's not about if you get interrupted by an ad, but how you handle it, and you did it excellently. You saw the awkward humor in it while it was out of your control, but kept the mood. You're a very smart guy.
You said how good do they sound live. This song was recorded live in a concert. I saw them live when I was 16, and I'm 37 now. They were flawless, especially Maynard. He's a perfectionist.
When I thought I couldn't love even more this song (and band) you bring this masterful live version I didn't know to show me that Tool never ceases to mesmerize my mind and soul... Thank you very much for this glorious gift for my Sunday morning!
This is the closest you'll get to experiencing them live! If you ever have a chance to see them live, just know you're going to have an out of body experience for 2 hours! Great reaction and your expression when the video went to an ad was priceless!
This is such a beautiful experience listing to this version, i cant decided witch one i like better even after all these years. Great reaction again brother. The holy Trinity has to be next my man.
This version FORCES you to live in the moment (which is a big objective for Tool). So much for the mind to pay attention to, that it just gets lost in the structure. First time I heard this--totally agree--it was a voyage (and after each subsequent listen). A voyage that is all about the journey. This is the best version of the song for me (and I LOVE Aenima). You forgetting that you were recording a reaction video, means it had the desired effect (makes a better reaction video too, honestly). 😁 Few reactors come across this version, but I still think it's one of the best songs they have (and I do consider it a different song for the most part, like you mention). Glad you came across this one and got to experience it! I can only imagine what being there would've been like after each listen. P.S. Google tried to sabotage your journey with those ads--holy... During a SONG?! Wow, that was def intentional on their part. lmao Edit: Oh, and I think the song you're thinking of is "Right in Two".
Your TOOL journey finally hit my RU-vid algorithm. Loving the reactions, and welcome to the TOOL army. This version of Pushit has to be my favorite piece of work by these gentlemen. Spiral out bro!! I'll keep watching,
I love this guy. One of two people I’ve found whose reactions I enjoy every time. Tool does this to me too. Been my favorite band for over 20 years now. Keep ‘em coming dude🤘🏼
Loved the reaction reaction sev. Third eye salival is another masterpiece from this same album. You’ve already listened to third eye but third eye salival is so much better in my opinion. Can’t wait for you to get to experience it!
Tool's live energy is just incomparable. Their sounds take on new life in a live setting. Especially with Ænima's original mix being really claustrophobic and almost muffled, these live versions just breathe so much better.
Great review mate . I think your ready for the holy trinity. " Disposition / Reflection / Triad . " can't stress enough ya gotta listen to all 3 songs in a row . If you can find a version that play all three together without the breaks between then even better . The album version will play them separately , but ultimately they are one .
OH SHIT!!! I forgot you reacted to No Quarter from Zeppelin. You have to react to Tools cover of it. That's on this album Salival. Dare I say that it's better than the original? Yes, I do... Yes I do.
Tool's cover of 'You Lied' from the band Peach is another one on this Salival album that's a damn must!! Peach is Justin Chancellor's (Tool's bassist) old band,. Amazing song with an incredible groove!
I remember when this album first dropped and as a teenager I must have repeated that intro over a million times every time I wanted to perform a song. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I just love Maynard’s tone of voice not only when he sings but when he speaks. It has a bit of a comedic side to it. On this song he shines so much. Of course everyone freaking shines but damn this song changed my life. Lol. By the way this is a live version of the song push it which you heard which is why that riff sounds familiar. It’s from the song. Lol. Nonetheless it brings me great pleasure to see your reaction match mine when I first heard on my CD Walkman 🤭🤭 Sigh, those were the days. 👌🏼👌🏼 Also you are spot on when you say their live versions sound almost as clean as their studio versions. You know what that means?? It’s time to get you some tickets. We don’t know how long these guys have left. Remember these guys are already in the 50’s and 60’s. Jump on this quick bud. Trust me you will never regret it and you will blessed to experience the best band in the world live!! That’s bragging rights for life that other losers will never have. I’ve been blessed to have seen them three times in my life and I’m already planning on another. These guys are walking statues bro. See them now!!! I implore you!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
It's certainly one of those songs you need to keep on repeat haha! Man I would love to see these guys live, really hoping they tour Australia I'll be the first one buying tickets!!
Love the reaction Sev, glad you checked out this version. Tool is incredible live, there are some videos of them performing on stage with visuals. One that comes to mind is Invincible, from Denver, CO. Maybe check out the studio version of Invincible first if you haven’t already, very powerful track about getting older and coming to terms with it - reflective of the band as well.
"tool is an experience." - I think that a lot of people misconstrue this statement. the music is a living entity itself, but the lifecycle of the band is a separate experience that is tethered to the music. there's more than music and fancy graphics happening with tool. the entire breathing living being that is tool, is the experience. and each person who engages with that, is part of the experience. when you get older and look back on these times, you'll yearn for the naivety that you had early on in the experience. bitter-sweet. thanks for sharing mister!
This is my favorite Tool song. Heard it hundreds of times and it never gets old. Great reaction as always! The only Tool song that comes close for me is Descending. You need to check out Eulogy.
TEAM CHOPPY DROPS!! 🔥🤘🏻 #CHOPOLOGY #TOOLARMY So glad you enjoyed this one, what they created in this version is top tier, just continues to prove how untouchable Tool are with their amazing musical abilities and delivering in a LIVE setting #ROCKEDYOURSOCKS There are more songs from SALIVAL that you can do, but my suggestion is hear the originals first and then dive into those!! 🍻🍻
I still have my black beanie with tool written on the front in BOLD white letters, I bought it at Casa De Candels in the mall the day after buying undertow back in 1993 I wore it to the job site the next morning. And drove up Blaring tool it out the windows of my Truck. I was all pumped up for work...Lol
You should also check out Invincible, I think it may be one of my favourite Tool songs. Invincible just takes me to another galaxy. I mean all their songs do it, but specially that one is really special to me, good luck in your Tool journey, traveler.
I might not be the first or last to say this, but the melody is familiar because you have heard it in this song already... in the studio version. Sooo many times in Tool songs the melody is played with throughout the song, like the unplugged intro becoming the beefy riff through the song, or even within the interim pieces in the albums, Intermission/Jimmy. Always fun to watch your reactions bro, but my God, why don't you have premium.... I do and I'm not even a reactor 😂
The running gag about Tool is they put out an album almost once every 10 years, so tours and seeing them live... I was lucky enough to see them for their Lateralus tour. Unfortunately, ''World Tours'' a lot of times are mostly North America and Europe... If you're lucky, they include at least Japan (maybe a few other Asian Countries) and sometimes also Australia...
sevsimo, TOOL releases Re-Imagined and Extended Version of Opiate; Opiate². The track celebrates the 30th anniversary of the EP of the same name. 💯🔥🤞✌️
Ok Ok my freind from the other side of the planet😊. Thanks for this great reaction. As you say, you have a big list of Tool music left to react to. Which i hope you will do. Please try the cover they did of Led Zepplin song No Quarter. I will like to see your face after hearing that❤😂
This is them Live… There’s no love in Fearrrrrr… if you want more Tool live then you need to do SOBER. Watch the live video. It’s freaking amazing. Another belter of a reaction. Glad you enjoyed 🌀
I keep forgetting you haven’t done Sober yet! I think you could jump straight to the live version and watch along. I don’t think it’s too different from the album version… P.S that tune is familiar to me too.. could it be ‘Right in two’?
You can get a premium YT account and never see a commercial again. I haven't seen one in so long that I forget that YT has them until I see something like this happen ;)
4:36 the riff your hearing is actually used in the Original version of the song but you don’t hear it until 3/4ths the way through in the breakdown section. They took that riff and made it the “foundation” of this song instead of the drowning bass riff they originally used, the one that sounded like buzzing bees 8:01 at this point is where the original riff comes back into play, just for 4 measures and then the breakdown begins. 13:16 here is that riff again that you know you heard before
and now you can listen to the live version of Third Eye on this same album! this and No Quarters! another great live performance on this album! I suggest you listen to the Led Zep version before though! and I think it's the song Right In two that sounds similar to the beginning of this version! great vid as always! keep having fun!
You should try to listen "Invincible", it has one of the greatest guitar riffs I've ever heard and I can't stop listening this song again and again 🤟 #proudtobetoolarmy
I just gave up YT premium as I wanted their idiotic ads to force me to watch less. And, yes, it is working :) But, if I was reacting, I would get premium to avoid those ad hassles.
