I Made Luke Skywalker Lightsaber [in Stainless Steel]

As part of my education of becoming a CNC operator, I was assigned to make my own project. I decided to make a Star Wars lightsaber since it has the perfect shape to make in a CNC turning machine. I also used a milling machine for the little cubic thing at the side. The time it took to make this thing took me about 6 days.

Honestly, amazing video. Loved the music too. Good choice lol. The light Saber looks amazing. I just bought an old lathe and am hoping to try something like this

cool lightsaber build. I did the same thing and machined my own lightsaber from scratch at the Special effects shop I work at. Iightsabbers are challenging projects but are alot of fun to make and show off to visitors in the shop.

good build, perfect apprentice project for you. To achieve a perfect handwheel may I suggest using using a 60 degree chamfer endmill after milling the slots, it will create a more aesthetically pleasing workpiece.

@@AntonN3RD excellent. Challenging yourself only makes you a better engineer/machinist. Obi wan Kenobi's saber would be an excellent challenge. Lots of angled milling.

Mate this is excellent! i'm thinking about doing one with aluminium (a bit kinder to the old machine bits i have!). Absolutely loved it :) It looked like Araldite or whatever 2-part epoxy for the handle block? that stuff sets like granite doesn't it, never able to work it down after it sets x)

This is great and all but if your mom could make it more like the real thing that would be better but otherwise very VERY WELL DONE gives me inspiration to do my own one day.

Lol if my mom tried to make this she would break it immediately. Yeah it's not 100% movie accurate, but this was my first real project using these machines with very little prior experience. I have seen videos that has made a much better job than i did.

What size diameter & length did you start out with

I honestly don't remember, the finished saber is about 267mm in length. The diameter that I started with was probably around 50mm, possibly more.

Cool but sorry ...wrong ambience theme...you should use the original Star Wars Theme..not from eps 7,8,9 theme...they're not STAR WARS!!!
