Thank you bro :D aluminium is lite but strong, actually this simple, bad looking case will hold 10-12 kg mass with no problem. plastic case isn't really safe because some gpus and psu's are heavy
@Cat and Andrew OMG thank you very much! Sorry for asking, I think it was late overnight I commented this therefore couldn't read the discription. Looks very useful and simple to build. And also cheap! :)
To make it portable: use a Dell optiplex 220W 8-pin travel adapter. I use that and a gtx 650 with my thinkpad t420. I can take it in my bag in a small box. Pretty dope.
I legit was looking for a video like this for the last 40 minutes just to find it on my recomendations after I gave up I ain't mad but DAMN RU-vid COULD YOU JUST RECOMEND ME THIS KIND OF STUFF WHEN... Nevermind Im just goind to watch the video
@@Daniel-__ eGPU is the definition of space management, your laptop can't house a GPU hence the need for external enclosures. Anyhow it's fun trying to make your design fit within a smaller package or adding additional function to it.
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew Hello I just watched your video and I've been trying to determine if my HP pavilion 15t touch is compatible for an external graphics card build like an egpu? Please at your latest convenience message me back. Also, the specs for my laptop are Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 -8565U CPU @ 1.80GHz 1.99GHZ RAM - 16.0 GB system type - 64 - bit operating system, x64-based processor with windows I also plan on purchasing the Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1650 Super
OH and I also plan on buying this to power it... EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W,, Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR, I was hoping if you could help tell me whether or not all this should theoretically work and if not please let me know why!? Thank you
Really great video. Best I have seen so far on the eGPU. By the way, thank you for the links to the PDF on the case dimensions, lol I actually plan on building this very one.
@@DI-xe8vq Because it would simply be cool to see how he did it? Yeah, I could sit there and puzzle it out. I probably will. But it looks nice, and an assembly video would be cool.
hello again, if ill do an egpu with a gtx 1660ti will i still use the same process as this and will i still use the exp gdc 8.0? my laptop supports NGFF and once I have an egpu can i use my laptop while its unplugged? pls help me
$70 for the Gearbest Chineese dock, is actually not that cheap. Considering the immense amount of work required to put everything together and build a frame/care for this, I think $100 is very fair for a job like this. I seen pre-made I-GPU models as low as $150-200 and it makes sense for them to charge this much.
This is probably the most comprehensive video I've found on building a DIY eGPU. I'm looking to build one myself (awesome case you made, btw) but for a small form factor desktop instead of a laptop. Currently, I'm not able to put a full-size GPU in the case because there really isn't enough room for good one (i'm stuck with stuff that isn't much better than the intel 650 integrated stuff). The kit you put together though, would that be the same parts I'd need to connect to a HP lubin motherboard? From what I seen it has a pcle slot, just not enough room to fit a big card.
How's the GTX 1070 holding with your setup? Did you play assasins creed origin or odyssey with it what are yhe FPS? My laptop has discrete GTX 1080 on it but if this setup works close enough i might get a more portable laptop instead with this setup instead of that hulking of a laptop i have to carry.
Your restoration videos are really inspiring. I'm a great fan of your videos. Your voice is clam & clear. Pls. post a video on updation of Lenovo Z560 with eGPU support.
this video definitely helped me alot in clearing alot of doubts i had, Can i use gtx 1060 or gtx 1070 for my laptop, my laptop has a i7 4510u processor
I watched your video first or second on this topic, then continued over weeks and watched almost all the others. Im back here to say, this was the most thorough video made. thank you for your patience. Ill be making a similar case once I get a chance, maybe include some plexi glass or honey comb style aluminum if i find some somewhere on the internets or around town. maybe even a simple wire mesh would work . i have a higher gauge aluminum angle left over from projects. will be interesting once I start.
A little smoked Plexi, some Velcro and another fan or so and you can enclose that case. Would look cool. Add in an RGB strip per your taste (or not)...and you'd have one of the nicer looking eGPU cases out there. Great job!
Hi Andrew, amazing videos, especially interesting to me are the ones where you work on Macs! I still own a fully functional 2006 Macbook Pro with the Core Duo T2500 processor and ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, 2GB or RAM and SSD already installed. The GPU started causing glitches on the screen and the computer starts running really hot after a while. The latest OS supported is 32-bit OSX 10.6.8, internet experience is just terrible since it doesn't support newer version of Chrome and it doesn't stream videos properly. I was thinking to rework the motherboard with the newest Socket M cpu available (Core 2 Duo T7600), do you think this is a possible mod? Can I get an eGPU setup like the one in this video to work with this model through Expresscard? It would be amazing to repurpose such old tech and make it work again like a charm. Cheers and keep up with the good work!
I don't have an eGPU. But I have been looking into them and have a T530 (same laptop but 15"). They have an expresscard port so should be easier to install. Just make sure you get the expresscard version.
Also depends on whether your laptop has enough "system bandwidth" to handle both sending data/instructions to AND from the eGPU. Having a powerful graphics card is good and all unless it needs to send and receive info at a rate higher than what ur laptop was designed to handle.
In essence, if ur laptop is the bottleneck in the entire eGPU/laptop system and NOT the external dock itself or anything like that, and u find that an external monitor helps to get rid of said bottleneck, then u should get an external monitor
solidpotatosalad you need the newer Mac mini with 4th gen haswell processors, you need thunderbolt 2, or the performance of the graphics card is limited
Cat and Andrew do you have the thunderbolt 2 or thunderbolt 3 MacBook? I have a late 2013 rmbp 13" that I use for video editing, I can only find thunderbolt 3 enclosures, and even they are too expensive!
Nithun Selvaa if you're connecting through thunderbolt port, the processor is not a big deal. if you're using pci-e slot, now that makes sense, because your gpu performance will be based on the lane bandwidth given by the cpu.
It is sad that it is practically possible now to play any game om the chromebook BUT there are no drivers for chromebook so this is one of those times hardware isn't the problem; it's the software
hey so i have a lenovo w540 laptop and i have a gt 710 .So i was wondering if my gpu will connect with my laptop or not...Plz tell me cuz i dont have the extra money to waste on a exp-gdc and a power supply plzz......
This would prove useful for my laptop. Mine has Intel HD Graphics instead of, say, an nVidia card. It'll run Fallout: New Vegas and Tropico 4 but not without any massive drops in my framerate. Then again, I also have a pretty heavily modded copy of FNV installed.
I'm working on a similar project for a Dell Optiplex 9030 AIO. Instead of using an external frame and power supply. I'm utilizing the internal power supply from the two internal sata power ports which originally are intended for a HDD and Optical drive. There's an unconventional B+M key NGF PCIE (NVME) socket which I intend to use to connect the PCIEx16 GPU. So far everything is ready bar one component. The B+M key adapter. I've got 2 types comming. one will convert the B+M to MiniPCIE, and the other B+M to M key NVME M.2. I've got the PCI connectors for either. Hopefully one or both of these will work connecting to PCIEx16 adapters (powered via the sata line). The last parts arrive in the next week. If it works, I'll be testing a variety of cards. The default graphics for the Dell 9030 AIO is the Intel HD Graphics 4600 2GB. I'll start with a Quadro M2000 (4gb) (Passive - No external power) A Radeon Pro 7100 (8gb) And then a 1080ti (11gb) If all this works I'll prob post some vids on my channel showing the part and benchmark comparisons. These Dell 9030 AIOs are really good value for money if you can find them at a good price. I picked up 4 touchscreen i5 models without stands 8gb RAM for around 50 quid each, though two had minor chips in the corners, the touchscreens are fine. Replaced the DVD drive with a Blu ray I had lying about, and installed sata SSDs. If all goes well, I plan to integrate a decent fitting GPU into the chassis with some minor modding, and if possible run the GPUS, without having to sacrifice the optical drive. 16gb Ram upgrade cost 20 quid. Next step would be to test with external power supply for powered cards.
While I am watching: My Laptop: Don't you dare try it Me :Unscrews back panel and puts more ram, egpu and installs necessary drivers My Laptop: Mr Stark I feel so good
Hi Andrew, I am a big fan of you. From laptop cleaning to upgrading things. Can you please let me know where I can buy this whole set up? Is this available to you, I want to buy this one. Please reply
Hi bro, you can order a eGPU case but most of them are for thunderbolt not for exp gdc, that mean you need to do some modifications. The other thing, they are little bit expensive, the case which hold the PSU also is about $150-200+ even some of them are $300-400. Btw you are not stupid bro, i'm not good in art also but i made it, here is the case parts and dimensions goo.gl/hcWbmp also you can make the cae from wooden sticks ( stick the sticks than use the screws to make it stronger and more stable )
I was flowing your link but I got some troubles when I drilled the screws. Then I tried to glue it, but it still fell down after 4 hours drying. I may try the wooden sticks this week. Thank you so much.
Hello Sir, i do have a laptop Asus G750JX, has a video card gtx770m (3gb)..could you recommend external video card which would fit with my laptop, or should build work at all with my laptop? Any reply would be handy.
Update 2020: I found this working. EXP GDC V8.5C can support GTX 1650 1660 and RTX 20 series. Minimum PSU 450W. Connection cable that works: Mini PCIe from WiFi. Driver update method: ioBit Driver Booster app. Because this app will update all of your Laptop hardware based on Most Voted rating wich is done by its community. You will not always be getting Latest driver, but you will get The Best stable driver if you install GPU driver using ioBit Driver Booster app.
My laptop has a thunder bolt 3 connector, what should I use to connect it to my egpu? Also, I have a GTX 1060(laptop version, obviously) should I even make this setup? Thanks guys! Also, will I bottleneck with an i7 7700hq? I want a 1080ti
Hi bro, theoretically the i7 7700hq will not bottleneck the 1080ti, the i7 7700hq is high end mobile cpu and it's very fast. About the exp gdc i'm not really sure it will work or not but thunderbolt 3 will work
@@Chilley Theoretically you will not have the bottleneck problem ( based on the CPU and the GPU hardware ), based on other users experience nobody has bottleneck problem with i7 7700HQ and 1080ti. Personally i didn't make some test using this combination but i think you won't have any issue. The i7 7700 HQ is a Pro or High End CPU, the 1080ti is High End GPU, booth are really great. However, you have laptops which have i7 7700HQ and 1080 GPU i mean Asus ROG
Hi, quick question, I am afraid to open my laptop like this so I want to use express card. problem is I don't have express card slot. I saw on the internet Express card to USB Adapter, do you think it will work? thank you!
also it's Express card to USB not USB to express... old laptops had express card slot, TOSHIBA Satellite A300 for example did not have USB 3.0 ports, but I added them via such express card
What is the name of that piece? And my labtop is Toshiba satellite c55 Core i5 4th 1.7~2.4 ghz What is the piece which should i buy? And could i connect rx 580 to my labtop?
It's possible. Basically, you'll need an external GPU dock (look for anything with mini PCIe), a power supply, any GPU card, and a monitor since the output changed from the stock laptop screen to the external GPU. You can also buy fancy eGPU docks such as Razer Core X and Sapphire Gearbox but it's kinda pricey.
which power supply did you use in the video? in the description of the GDC exp i read that i may only use a power supply with max 220 W. is that right? but all the power supplys which i found have 300W and more... or am i wrong, is there a missunderstanding?
