I made my Second Gen Dodge truck sound AMAZING (5.2 engine - 318 V8)

My name is Austin, this is Mopar Garage, and we build cool stuff in here! Today we are installing a sweet custom exhaust on the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500! The set up is a cat delete with a 2 into 1 Magnaflow muffler. Take a listen to some before and after sound!

Same my d250 had a straight pipe with 3’ head pipes and I had to put a muffler on it bc there was no back pressure

I rebuilt my 5.2 in my 96 dakota and added the hughes airgap and a comp cam 20-746-9 and with a single flow master 40, no cat, sounds mean, especially with a 5 speed. Nice lope at idle. Glorious.

The 318 is my favorite mopar engine. 4.0L is my secpnd favorite. My grandfather swore by the slant 6.

Go next level next time. True dual with an X pipe. Made my Dakota sound like no other. I have regular on it before with the 408 engine then did the true dual 3 inch with x pipe, wow it made a difference

It’s an all around game changer. You won’t be disappointed and you will have one nice sounding machine. An H pipe works but an X pipe is way better and for performance too.

Thanks for this video, I always love seeing new 2nd gen ram videos, these trucks have a very fond spot in my heart. I've really been thinking of getting a good sounding magnaflow muffler, just truly unsure what to get with all the dozens of models. Currently have a single 3in in dual 2.5 out cherry bomb extreme and it's kinda way too loud lol. The truck originally many years ago had a knockoff single in dual out dumped at the ground muffler I thought sounded way too whimpy, and due to the cat being gutted as well as the exhaust exits pointed straight at the ground they'd bounce up and would just congregate and spread out stinking choking exhaust fumes all around, I had to have choked out some poor kids at the fast food drive thru's when I'd pull up to the window lol. When I got the new exhaust put on like 7 years ago I never had another fume issue since it was pushing them at the back of the truck like a normal setup. The magnaflow in this vid sounds awesome, nice rumble and growl. I may just end up going with that with a single tailpipe as well. The dual exhaust that people swore up and down on forums would make these old v8 trucks magically get 20mpg never did for me anyway LOL. Do you have the model number for this magnaflow muffler?

Thanks for watching my man! I try to give the gas job 2nd gens a little love, they’re my favorite truck of all time and there’s not a lot of good content out there on them. This truck actually has a Flowmaster 40 series on it.

thanks man I'll definitely consider the flowmaster 40 then, sounded awesome without being too loud like my cherry bomb extreme is. I feel the same, most of the videos on the 2nd gens are from the early youtube days without that great sound quality. I still see them any time I go out and they're one of the VERY few reasonably priced used vehicles left in my general area. They have a fond spot in my heart, I've had an 01 v6 short bed and this 95 5.2 regular cab long bed over the years, "the little v6 that could" even hauled some old friends house moving stuff in the extremely intense 110degree tx summer heat years ago, the trans temp warning did pop up tho, I think I was hauling stuff in overdrive LOL. I'm not sure if it's due to them just being older and more simple but I was only quoted $2000 for a trans rebuild including labor when I inquired awhile back too at a well regarded place, despite the cosmetic things like dashboard and trans they've been very mechanically sound to me, best vehicles I've ever had after a string of very junky cars lol.@@TheMoparGarage

@@SolidSnake4Ever2003 nice! I’ve owned probably 15 of them, they’re great trucks. Especially if it’s a 5 speed, in which case you don’t really have to worry about the transmissions.

Got a 99 with total shit for an exhaust. I can squeeze 25 MPG out of it but it’s a 5 speed Dakota lowered 3 inches 😄

Don’t worry, I had to drive clear out to the Louisiana/Texas boarder after 2 years of searching to find a 5 speed 4x4 short bed standard cab. She ain’t going anywhere! There will be some DIY paint work down the road, complete with spray foam/bondo rocker panel repair. The whole spirit of the project was budget build, so it’ll never be perfect, but definitely plan to make it mopar emerald green one day.

I have a 5.2 98 ram sport and I'm looking for an exhaust thinking I might just copy this if you don't mind except I want a chrome tip going for a clean build... my truck is really nice no rust on it no dents just slight age damage wish I could show pictures of it lol but Id really like to know the part number or name of this exhaust sounds amazing

I recommend it! I’m not sure of the part number, it’s just a Flowmaster 40 series 2 into 1 muffler. I got this one used for like 40 bucks. I believe they’re about 300 new. Keep in mind the engine light will come on if you remove the cat like I did. Luckily no vehicle inspections here in SC so I don’t care haha.

@@TheMoparGarage yeah I have no lights on my dash so imma see if I can bypass that I might just attach it outside so it reads clean air maybe that will help did you see any negative performance issues cutting the cat off?

@@r.n.u_mb_4uller_710 yeah there are supposedly ways around it, I’ve read/seen that if you put spacers it will read it clean. There’s some RU-vid videos on how to do it.

@@r.n.u_mb_4uller_710 no negative performance, it actually runs a lot better now without it. I’m sure it was pretty clogged up. It still has the front 02 sensor which is the one that matters, it adjusts air/fuel. The back 02 sensor is just to read emissions.

Since it’s a 99’ don’t you still need to get emissions? Doesn’t the cat delete make you can’t pass?

South Carolina doesn’t have any vehicle inspection laws so it doesn’t matter for me. For states that do though, there are ways around it. You can usually put a spacer in the post-cat o2 sensor and it won’t throw a code.

the vast majority have a v8 and these are second generation ram, I have a v6 and I don't know how good it would sound

This one was pulled off a wrecked vehicle. I don’t think it technically was designed to fit this truck in particular, but my exhaust guy fabricated it in.
